In this inspirational true story, Machine Gun Preacher is about Sam Childers, a former drug-dealing criminal who undergoes an astonishing transformation and finds an unexpected calling as the savior of hundreds of kidnapped and orphaned children. Gerard Butler (300) delivers a searing performance as Childers, the impassioned founder of the Angels of East Africa rescue organization in Golden Globe-nominated director Marc Forster’s (Monster’s Ball, Finding Neverland) moving story of violence and redemption.
When ex-biker-gang member Sam Childers (Butler) makes the life-changing decision to go to East Africa to help repair homes destroyed by civil war, he is outraged by the unspeakable horrors faced by the region’s vulnerable populace, especially the children. Ignoring the warnings of more experienced aide workers, Sam breaks ground for an orphanage where it’s most needed—in the middle of territory controlled by the brutal Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), a renegade militia that forces youngsters to become soldiers before they even reach their teens.
But for Sam, it is not enough to shelter the LRA’s intended victims. Determined to save as many as possible, he leads armed missions deep into enemy territory to retrieve kidnapped children, restoring peace to their lives—and eventually his own. The explosive, real-life tale of a man who has rescued over a thousand orphans from starvation, disease and enslavement, Machine Gun Preacher also stars Michelle Monaghan (Due Date), Kathy Baker (Cold Mountain), Madeline Carroll (Mr. Popper’s Penguins), Academy Award® nominated Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road) and Souleyman Sy Savane (“Damages”).

Interview with Jenna Stern
Jenna Stern recently co-starring in the film, “The Best and the Brightest”. Her character, “Katharine, easily steals the show as the inappropriate school’s head of admissions. Movie Mikes had a chance chat with Jenna about her role in the film and also what else she has planned.
Mike Gencarelli: Growing up in the business was acting something you always wanted to pursue?
Jenna Stern: It was always around me. I was late coming to the profession. I had thought about it but didn’t feel comfortable enough to pursue it until a little bit later.
MG: How did you come on board to play Katharine in “The Best and the Brightest”?
JS: It was an audition and I was always very skeptical. I guess that’s from growing up in the business but I don’t believe anybody! (Laughs) I figured they were just going to cast whoever but I walked in and all the people auditioning were friends of mine. We all had traded jobs back and forth over the years and they had a great group, so I then started to think it was not total BS. I read the script and it really made me laugh. I thought it was great that the arc continued the entire way through the film as this part could have been just a foil for a couple of scenes. It was really Josh (Shelov) and Michael (Jaeger)’s commitment to every character to have an arc for each one. Keep in mind that I figured I was going to end up on the cutting room floor! (Laughs) I am happy with the way the film came out and they were true to their word.
MG: How long did the scene in your office where you are reading poetry take? It looked as though it was really fun to shoot.
JS: It was fun. That was also my audition scene. I think on the auditions are going to be included on the DVD. You will hear Josh basically howling with laughter on the couch next to me. I had a basic idea of what I wanted to do with the role and he responded immediately. That was the second day of shooting for me and I have to say there was a bit of pressure on my part. I didn’t know it at the time but there were a bunch of producers watching the scene being shot but, I knew what I wanted to do and knew what it had to be so we shot it in the afternoon and we got it.
MG: Overall would you consider it a fun production and what was it like working with the rest of the cast?
JS: It was the most fun I have ever had in my entire career. I couldn’t believe how great everyone was. The producers really set the tone from the top down. Josh was amazing as a director and writer as was Michael as a writer. Josh never lost his head and no one ever screamed. The crew and everyone had a great sense of humor and we all worked very hard. We had this MTV type home we shot in that was gorgeous. It was great!
MG: Can you tell us about “Game Change” and working with Jay Roach?
JS: It’s pretty exciting and the book itself is very interesting. Jay and Danny Strong who also did “Recount” have quite a track record with these kinds of political docu-dramas. My character was first up as was Julianne (Moore)’s who was just getting into her Palin make-up and hair. She was incredible to work with. Someone told me later that it was really great to shoot the scene as I played the stylist hired to transform the Palin’s. It was nice to have that in the beginning rather than to just have it thrown in somewhere. It was really fun and top notch. Incredible cast!
MG: Do you have project you are working on currently that you can tell us about?
JS: I am in a two actor household as my husband is also an actor. So we got the family work juggle that a lot of actors and actresses do. I have a big guest star on the second episode of the new CBS show “A Gifted Man” with Patrick Wilson. It is directed by Jonathan Kaplan, who did “The Accused”, which earned Jodie Foster her first Oscar. I also have a reoccurring role as a Judge on “Law & Order SVU”. So some good things coming up!

A Pale Horse Named Death “And Hell Will Follow Me” CD Review
A Pale Horse Named Death
“And Hell Will Follow Me”
SPV/Steamhammer
Producer: Sal Abruscasto/Matt Brown
Tracks: 13
Run time: 53 minutes and 37 seconds
Our Score: 3 out of 5
“And Hell Will Follow Me” is the debut release from Life of Agony drummer/ Type O Negative Co-Founder Sal Abruscasto’s new band A Pale Horse named Death. “And Hell Will Follow Me” showcases the many talents of Sal Abruscasto as he is the sole musician featured on the album. Abruscasto with the help of Matt Brown also produced the record which definatley blends all of Sal’s previous bands sounds into one doom filled ensemble.
“And Hell Will Follow Me” might be a little sluggish for your typical metal head. However for those Type O Negative fans out there looking for a similar sound look no further as “And Hell Will Follow” has that signature eerie sound the band was known for. Sludge rock mixed with a side of doom and a touch of techno samples will give fans of both Life of Agony and Type O Negative something to fill their ears with. Tracks such as “Serial Killer and “When The Crows Descend Upon You” were real stand outs for more as they had more of a hard rocking straight forward feel to them which when played live will surely conjure up a superior circle pit.
“And Hell Will Follow Me” showcases a very dark and gloomy sound that fans of both Abruscasto’s previous bands will surely enjoy.

ANVIL “Juggernaut of Justice” CD Review
ANVIL
Juggernaut of Justice
The End Records
Producer: Bob Marlette
Tracks: 12
Run Time: 43 min 35 seconds
Our Score: 4 out of 5
“Juggernaut of Justice” is Canadian metal band Anvil’s 14th studio album and is the follow up to the bands 2008 release “This is Thirteen” which was documented in the band acclaimed film “Anvil: The Story of Anvil”. “Juggernaut of Justice” was produced by Bob Marlette (Alice Cooper, Slayer) and recorded at Dave Grohl’s 606 Studios in Los Angeles.
“Juggernaut of Justice” is a much more streamlined and accessible album than the bands previous release. With most tracks clocking in at around 4 minutes the album is very straight forward and in your face from start to finish. Even with the new streamlined approach the album is classic Anvil all the way. Each member of the band in my opinion is at the top of their game and “Juggernaut of Justice” proves that. Tracks such as “New Orleans Voodoo”, “Fukeneh”, and “Conspiracy” do a great job of blending the classic Anvil sound with Marlette’s clean production style. The real high light of the album which singer and guitarist Steve “Lips” Kudlow discussed in a recent interview with moviemikes.com is the track “Swing Thing”. This track breaks new ground by combining swing jazz and classic heavy metal.
“Juggernaut of Justice” has something for both new and old school Anvil followers. Even if you aren’t a dedicated Metal Pounder do yourself a favor and pick up this album!
Track Listing:
1.) Juggernaut of Justice
2.) When All Hell Breaks Loose
3.) New Orleans Voodoo
4.) On Fire
5.) Fukeneh!
6.) Turn it Up
7.) The Ride
8.) Not Afraid
9.) Conspiracy
10.) Running
11.) Paranormal
12.) Swing Thing

Kiss “The Lost Cities Tour 2011”
Date: Thursday, July 28th 2011
Venue: Turning Stone Casino, Verona, NY
Our Score: 4 out of 5 stars
Kiss wrapped up their 18 date Lost Cities tour at The Turning Stone Casino in Verona, NY on July 28th. A surprisingly smaller venue than what Kiss has been a custom to after 35 years in the music business however the intimate venue didn’t stop Kiss from unleashing their bombastic stage show on the near capacity crowd. Fans were treated to a somewhat scaled down version of the “Hottest Show on Earth” but none the less Kiss still delivered!
This was my 10th Kiss show and despite Paul’s almost verbatim chats with the crowd and Tommy Thayers cheap and almost sickening Ace Frehley imitation I was still entertained. Kiss proved that no matter how big or small a venue they can still entertain a crowd. Gone were Gene and Paul’s flying rigs and the massive back line of speakers however it was nice to see the band play without that stuff bringing back an almost eighties stripped down Kiss feel to the night. I would have liked to have heard a little more variation in the set list as I am sure most diehard Kiss fans like myself would agree however the night proved to be very enjoyable and showcased just why Kiss is the hottest band in the land!
Set List:
1.) Modern Day Delilah
2.) Let Me Go, Rock ‘N’ Roll
3.) Firehouse
4.) Deuce
5.) Do You Love Me
6.) Calling Dr. Love
7.) Shock Me
8.) I Love It Loud
9.) Love Gun

Krum Bums “Cut The Noose” CD Review
Krum Bums
“Cut The Noose”
Century Media Records/EMmi
Producer: Jason Buntz
Tracks: 13
Our Score: 4 out of 5
“Cut The Noose” is the 3rd full length release by the Texas based punk band Krum Bums and their first being released by Century Media/Emi. “Cut The Noose” is also the band’s first album featuring Nick Kasten who took over drumming duties for Tommy Gonzalez .
“Cut The Noose” Is pure gutter punk rock from beginning to end! From the albums opening track “Population Control” all the way to the closing track “High Highs, Low Lows” this album is in your face and very reminiscent of early 80’s punk rock. Jason Buntz as producer did a great job capturing the raw energy of the band while not over producing the tracks.
Classic British snarl and attitude mixed with straight forward American distortion and aggression. You can’t go wrong picking up a copy of “Cut The Noose”!
Track Listing:
1.) Population Control
2.) Action City
3.) Poison Myself
4.) Gasoline
5.) Hit and Run
6.) Last To Go
7.) Starving Wolves
8.) Gallows
9.) Cut The Noose
10.) (Get Away)
11.) Injection
12.) Gone Forever
