Pre-Order A Wonderful LifeHERE

At its start, an ominous choir invites the listener into A Wonderful Life – introductory track “A Requiem For Tomorrow” smoothly shifts into an industrial-metal inspired, grooving punch to the gut juxtaposed with a melodic, synth-laden chorus. This sets the stage for stocky, chant-worthy anthems such as “Seen It All” and hair-raising, politically-inclined tracks like “The Heresy” and “Carry On”, both featuring the sinister multi-voice attack of new full-time vocalist Ms. Jackie and returning longtime vocalist J Mann, with an extra strike from aforementioned new vocalist Mr. Rauckhorst on the latter. Tracks like “What A Shame”, “I Am The One” and “Madness Within” will prove a treat for new and diehard MUSHROOMHEAD fans alike – providing the macabre inspiration followers have come to crave with a weighty dose of galloping drums and bone-rattling guitars, to boot.

MUSHROOMHEAD attacks track after track with a refreshed focus, delivering a carefully-curated selection of certified future hits. A Wonderful Life re-cements the band’s position as one of the most consistently impactful heavy bands of our generation.

A Great Movie Marathon For The Casino Lover

2020 started, shall we say, homebound. Our list of the best gambling movies is for anyone who has missed a poker evening with friends or just wants to see hustlers try and fail to make it big.

This list follows 3 rules:

  1. The 5 movies on this list are about poker.
  2. The movies do not merely take place in Vegas or a casino; they are specifically about gambling.
  3. These are recent gambling movies; some fan favourites will be missing. A list for the best gambling movies of all time would take more than 5 entries.

We have a handful of exciting movies about poker that should trigger a craving for speed and intrigue of gambling.

Maverick (1994)

Mel Gibson is at his most fun and charming peak in this delightful western comedy about a con man who tries his best to make enough money to enter a high-stakes poker game.

A strong supporting cast includes campy, yet delightful turns from James Garner and Alfred Molina Magnificent. Jodie Foster is also in the movie, and she plays a con-artist-slash-damsel-in-distress a three years after her Oscar-winning turn in Silence of the Lambs.

The oldest film on this list, Maverick, is still a wild ride through wild-wild west. One of the best gambling movies of all time, this one is also extremely fun.

Rounders (1998)

Some famous poker players credit this film for sparking their interest in the game, while many poker enthusiasts dub it the best film about poker ever.

This Matt Damon vehicle might not be that good, but it’s quite enjoyable nonetheless. Stellar supporting turns by Edward Norton, Martin Landau, Famke Janssen, and John Turturro power this film.

Wonderful John Malkovich is in a role one critic described, “so over the top he’s passing Pluto.” And Pluto was still a planet then.

This is one of those movies about poker that are character-driven. A law student loses big, tries to quit, gets dragged back to the casino by an old friend, and has to go all in. Intriguing, eh?

Casino Royale (2006)

Could we do without Bond, James Bond? Of course, not! Her Majesty’s best agent’s shenanigans have been the longest-running film franchise. This soft reboot finds the legendary 007 shaken but not stirred, at a poker table.

Agent 007 is betting against one of the most dangerous criminals in cinema, Le Chiffre, portrayed masterfully by the great Mads Mikkelsen. Gorgeous Eva Green plays no less dangerous Bond girl Vesper.

Packed with action, intrigue and highest stakes, Casino Royale is a classic film to choose for an evening with a significant other.

Molly’s Game (2017)

This biographical crime drama is based on the memoir of Molly Bloom. Molly has been training to be an Olympic skier her whole life to get a career-ending injury at the last minute.

Instead of following her original plan to go to law school, she starts an underground poker operation for rich people. What could go wrong?

Aaron Sorkin, the screenwriting genius behind the “Newsroom,” “The Social Network,” and Steve Jobs, directs the film. Jessica Chastain gives one of the best performances of her career in this film. Idris Elba, Kevin Costner, Michael Cera, and Jeremy Strong round up the stellar cast.

This one is one of the recent gambling movies with sharp and smart dialogue, real-life crime stories, and great acting.

Uncut Gems (2019)

Many cinephiles got upset when Adam Sandler did not get an Oscar nomination for this… gem.

In the best performance of his career, Sandler plays Howard, a jeweller with gambling addiction, who must get back the gem he brought to pay off his debts.

This film is notoriously intense. It’s an emotional roller-coaster, where viewers wait for Howard to make it right. We are not going to spoil the fun here, but we believe everyone should watch “Uncut Gems” as soon as possible. It is one of the best gambling movies of the 2010s.

Conclusion

There you have it: 5 great recent gambling movies for the casino lovers. Please tell us about your favourites and check out https://casinocanada.com/ for some real game action.

Blu-ray Review “Charlie’s Angels (2019)”

Starring: Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, Ella Balinska, Elizabeth Banks, Patrick Stewart
Director: Elizabeth Banks
Rated: PG-13
Studio: Sony Pictures Home Entertainment
Release Date: March 10, 2020
Run Time: 118 minutes

Film: 3 out of 5 stars
Blu-ray: 4 out of 5 stars
Extras: 3.5 out of 5 stars

Some films you can just tell from the trailers that they were going to be terrible…this one surprised me a little. It’s been 16 years since the “Charlie’s Angels 2” and no one was really screaming for another sequel in the “Charlie’s Angels” franchise, but we got a new one. Meet our new Angels: Kristen Stewart (“Twilight” franchise), Naomi Scott (“Aladdin” 2019) and relative newcomer, Ella Balinska! Honestly a great gang of girls. They are kick ass together and definitely give some life to this reboot. I definitely didn’t hate this film. It had solid action despite having some issues. I didn’t feel like this film knew what it wanted. Was it a sequel or a reboot? Either way if you are looking for some brainless fun, this film is worth checking out.

Official Premise: Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska are working for the mysterious Charles Townsend, whose investigative agency has expanded internationally. The new Angels are among the world’s smartest, bravest, and most highly trained women all over the globe. Under the guidance of Bosley (Elizabeth Banks), the Angels have to protect a revolutionary technology from becoming weaponized. They will have to rely on each other as their assignment becomes increasingly treacherous and even those closest to them can no longer be trusted.

The 1080p transfer on this Blu-ray is solid enough and definitely showcases the beautiful shooting locations in the film. The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track also works well with the action and gives the film a large scale feeling. Personally though, the 4K Ultra HD release includes The IMAX® Enhanced 4K Ultra HD™️ edition features digitally remastered content presented with High Dynamic Range and DTS:X® audio for a more immersive at-home entertainment experience. So that would be the more preferred way to view this film.

The specials included are decent and worth checking out if you enjoyed the film. There is a pretty funny Gag Reel with never-seen-before bloopers that show this must have been a fun shoot. There are five deleted scenes included as well as the music video for “Don’t Call Me Angel” featuring Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus & Lana Del Rey, which was made for the movie itself. Fun song and definitely a great collection of talent here.

Lastly there are four behind-the-scenes featurettes included. The first “Stronger Together: The Sisterhood of the Angels” features the Angels and how they got into their roles. “Elizabeth Banks: As BOSSley” features Banks discussing not only acting in the film but also writing, producing and directing. “Warriors on Set: Angels in Action” focuses on the biggest action scenes from the film including stunt rehearsals with the cast. And the last one “Tailored for Danger: Styling the Angels” focuses on the costumes, hair and make-up. Overall solid features.

Blu-ray Review “Parasite”

Directed by: Bong Joon-ho
Starring: Song Kang-ho, Lee Sun-kyun, Cho Yeo-jeong, Choi Woo-shik, Park So-dam, Lee Jung-eun, Jang Hye-jin
Distributed by: CJ Entertainment
Running time: 132 minutes

Film: 5 out of 5 stars
A/V: 5 out of 5 stars
Extras: 2 out of 5 stars

Director Bong Joon Ho has been on my radar since “The Host”, and “Snowpiercer”. Two amazing movies that the average viewers have never seen but hopefully that will change now. “Parasite” made history as the first Korean film to be nominated for an Oscar®. The film received six Oscar® nominations and ended up winning not only Best International Film but also Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay. This film is definitely the underdog and deserved everything it got. It is a very unique and original film and I am glad to see it get the attention it deserves.

Featuring incredible must-see performances from the entire cast including Song Kang Ho (Snowpiercer, The Host), Lee Sun Kyun (A Hard Day, Paju), Cho Yeo Jeong (The Servant, Obsessed), Choi Woo Shik (Okja, Train to Busan), Park So Dam (The Priests, The Silenced), Lee Jung Eun (Okja, The Wailing) and Chang Hyae Jin (Marine Boy, If It Snows on Christmas). Everyone in this cast does an amazing job. I am huge fan of Song Kang Ho and I am glad to see him back with director Bong Joon Ho. I would definitely call this film an ensemble cast. Literally outstanding.

Official Premise: In PARASITE, meet the Park family, the picture of aspirational wealth and the Kim family, rich in street smarts but not much else. Be it chance or fate, these two houses are brought together and the Kim’s sense a golden opportunity. Masterminded by college-aged Ki-woo, the Kim children expediently install themselves as tutor and art therapist to the Parks. Soon, a symbiotic relationship forms between the two families. The Kims provide “indispensable” luxury services while the Parks obliviously bankroll their entire household. When a parasitic interloper threatens the Kims’ newfound comfort, a savage, underhanded battle for dominance breaks out, threatening to destroy the fragile ecosystem between the Kims and the Parks.

Technically this release is amazing. The 1080p transfer is gorgeous. The colors are simply gorgeous. According to IMDB, this film was shot at a resolution of 6.5K and finished at 4K and then downscaled to 1080p. But simply, this film just looks beautiful. The Korean language DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless soundtrack is the only audio option on the disc. There is no dub track only English subtitles are included. This is the way to watch the film anyway. I wouldn’t want to see this dubbed. The score works well with this track also. It is just simply perfect. Overall, in terms of technical merits this release deserves a big major thumbs up!

Despite the amazing A/V on this release, personally I am a bit disappointed in the Blu-ray release for “Parasite”, I feel like it was rushed to release. It also didn’t get a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release, which is a bit sad. With the way this film was shot it would be amazing in 4K. It is though available to stream in 4K Ultra HD if that is your thing, just not on disc. Also the special features aren’t very special. There is only one extra included on this Blu-ray disc, which is a Q&A with Director Bong Joon Ho. It is worth watching if you enjoyed the film but I was really hoping for more. I don’t think anyone expected this film to do what it did. Hopefully there will be a re-release of this film in 4K Ultra HD in a nice steelbook release in the future.

MYRKUR ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM FOLKESANGE COMING MARCH 20 ON RELAPSE RECORDS

REVEALS LEAD SINGLE “ELLA

Danish composer, vocalist and classically trained multi-instrumentalist, Myrkur (Amalie Bruun), journeys into the heart of Scandinavian culture. Through Bruun’s crystalline vocals, an array of traditional instruments and storytelling, ‘Folkesange’ offers listeners an immersive, emotional and transcendent experience that resonates in today’s turbulent times

Myrkur’s Amalie Bruun has always paved her own path and challenged underground preconceptions of heavy genres. Just after newfound motherhood, Bruun set out on a journey into the very heart of the Scandinavian culture that marked her own childhood with the release of her new album, Folkesange.

Due out March 20 via Relapse RecordsFolkesange relinquishes black metal for a refined yet far-reaching evocation of traditional folk, combining songs ancient and new to sublimely resonant effect.

Today, Myrkur has unveiled lead single and album opener, “Ella” which she explains is “the result of years of studying, playing and listening to traditional Nordic folk music. This is my version of a new folk-song, with roots planted in history and in the past. It is my ode to mankind and our connection with nature – a rite of passage as a woman and a rebirth-ritual in the sea.”

She continues, “Three years ago I decided to share a video where I performed an old Scandinavian folk-song on the nyckelharpa. After this I realized that I had a strong need to create an album within this universe and that other people also wished to hear this. So I started working on picking out what old songs to reinterpret as well as write my own version of this. Ella is this.”

Listen & Share: “Ella” (Official Audio Visual) via YouTube Here
Listen & Share: “Ella” on all digital platforms Here

On Myrkur‘s first two full-length studio albums (2015’s M and 2017’s Mareridt), she recast black metal in the most personal yet expansive of terms, their blending of Bruun‘s Danish folk roots with tempestuous internal struggles breathing new life into a subgenre whose followers can be rigidly possessive.

After the nightmare-induced visions that wrought themselves throughout 2017’s immensely acclaimed MareridtFolkesange offers an emotional sanctuary, a means to reconnect to something permanent and nature-aligned. It’s an awareness that’s become deeply bound to the album’s organic, regenerative spirit.

Storytelling, rites of passage, and the invocation of a continuity that passes through time and generation are all part of folk music’s tapestry, and Folkesange taps into all these currents in their most essential form. In part a purist’s approach to the genre, free from over-interpretation and fusion, the use of Kulning (an ancient Scandinavian herding call) and traditional instruments throughout, such as nyckelharpa, lyre and mandola offer adeeper, more tactile connection to their source, an unbroken line of communication back to the past.

But the album is no museum piece; it resonates in the here and now, aided by the spacious production of Heilung member and musical collaborator Christopher Juul. Cinematic yet intimate, Folkesange exists in a state of boundless reverie, bourne by string-led drones, cyclical, elegiac rhythms and Bruun‘s frictionless voice, all carrier signals for deep-rooted, ancestral memories, and associations felt on an elemental level.

An immersive experience in its own right, but also belonging to a wider, pagan folk-based renaissance that has attracted a devoted following worldwide, Folkesange answers a need that has become ever more pressing in turbulent times. A zeroing in on a resonance that is both intrinsic and enduring, it’s a rediscovery of personal grounding, and an experience that reaches beyond culture to remind us of a shared, deeply rooted inheritance. A tuning fork that binds the personal and the universal, Folkesange is a reminder that the most transcendent experiences are those closest to home.

Folkesange sees its release March 20, 2020 via Relapse. There will be several limited deluxe vinyl versions available.

Casinos in Films

With the glitz and glamour of the Las Vegas strip, there is little wonder why casinos feature in so many Hollywood blockbusters. They offer a riot of lights, noise and most importantly, loads of money which appeals to most people’s sense of escapism. Caesars Palace is a famous film set and has seen over 27 films shot in its iconic walls, how many do you remember? Here are a few movies that took advantage of the stunning backdrop of Caesars Casino to jog your memory.

The Hangover

Lead character Zach Galifianakis strolls over to the reception desk and utters the now famed words, ‘Did Caesar live here?’, laugh all you like, but you might be surprised to learn just how often the front of house staff get asked that question every day. Both The Hangover and The Hangover Part III feature on-location shots at this popular casino to compliment the action of the films.

Iron Man

Robert Downey Jr has made several outings as billionaire turned superhero Tony Stark aka Iron Man. It was the first of the films, in 2008, that used the backdrop of the main entrance to Caesars and saw Stark doing what he does best, seducing a stunningly beautiful reporter right outside the building.

Rain Man

Many people missed the fact that this 80’s hit actually featured Caesars Palace, with two huge names taking the leading roles and four Academy Awards under its belt. Tom Cruise was seen teaching his autistic brother played by Dustin Hoffman how to dance. This scene was filmed in the Emperors Suite, and even now, people still ask for and refer to it as the Rain Man Suite.

The Only Game in Town

If you are looking for one of the first films to pick the casino as a location filming, then look no further than The Only Game in Town. This classic hit featured Warren Beaty and Elizabeth Taylor and was shot in 1970 and is highly recommended if you haven’t seen it.

Dreamgirls

One location that everyone can paint a mental image of, is the stunning Caesars Palace showroom. It was here that Effie White, played by Jennifer Hudson, belted out the love song, ‘And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going’. Film Review: “Animal Among Us”

ANIMAL AMONG US
Starring: Larisa Oleynik, Erin Daniels and Heather Tom
Directed by: John Woodruff
Not Rated
Running time: 1 hr 30 mins
Uncork’d Entertainment

“This is a movie about a monster.” Author Roland Baumgarner’s (Christian Oliver) first and only successful writing venture found him fame by exploiting the mysterious deaths of two young girls at the family owned Camp Merrymaker. His novel helped to simultaneously draw curious and fanatical Sasquatch hunters to the area and cause the camp to shut down. Years later, Roland is living his own personal blasé-suburban nightmare and, without a sophomore success to his name, has resigned himself to teaching creative writing to a group of uninspired young writers.

When Roland receives a strange fan letter in the mail – inviting him to return to  Camp Merrymaker for it’s grand reopening – he jumps at the opportunity to use the event to get his creative juices flowing. However, upon his arrival, he quickly realizes the proprietors of the camp, sisters Anita and Poppy (Larisa Oleynik and Christine Donlon), shouldn’t rush to open their gates to guests just yet. As hidden agendas and bloodied Sasquatch investigators emerge from the depths of the woods, Roland finds himself spiraling into the kind of real life terror that, incidentally, would make for a great book.

Director John Woodruff is a lifelong genre fan and has crafted his first feature film with his bleeding monster kid heart on his sleeve. It’s filled with loving nods to a variety of classic horror films with all the key players of a traditional summer camp slasher present: the foreboding, woodsy atmosphere, creative special effects, the short shorts, the badly behaved counselors and the looming ever-present threat of death but “Animal Among Us” finds its own unique and emotionally honest voice by weaving in themes of obsession and revenge. It’s never exploitative or gratuitous, explores marital relationships with refreshing albeit uncomfortable honesty and stands out by utilizing every minute of its ninety minute run time to expand a creature feature into a multi-layer monster movie that will really keep you guessing who you’re rooting for.

Social casino entertainment – a pleasure or profitability?

For the past few years, the number of casino fans has considerably increased. The diversity of the casino software and a large number of platforms cater for all the tastes of the game «addicts». It seems that handling some online casino websites can bring a good income and profitability. Moreover, it does not require any special technical skills to run a casino business online.

Nowadays, the casino players do not longer need to go to Las Vegas to feel the thrill of tempting the fate. They can do that in one click only. Modern poker client software offers different options, the client’s task is to try some of them out and decide which one is the most convenient. So to say, the client software is various enough to gamble even without turning on your PC. Apart from Desktop and Web Client, there are a lot of mobile applications that yield to no one in the respect of effective functional.

Sometimes we come across the applications developed specially for the mobile operating systems. Meanwhile, the notion of social poker is gaining more and more popularity and recognition as well.

Social casino vs real money expenses

The advantages of the social casinos are obvious. First of all, these games are being played more for pleasure than for money. Because of that, they are not considered to be the gambling games. No material wealth can be won by a client, accordingly, there are much fewer law restrictions and the owners of such client software became the gainers. As long as the casino lover is interested in getting past the levels, they get a huge profit out of such a business. Secondly, you do not need to install any software on your device that takes up a lot of space. And thirdly, last but not least, people can enjoy the games without betting real money. It seems to be a good opportunity for those who want to master casino art and do not want to squander money.

Do not put this out of your head

It is generally known that a lot of people consider casino – even an innocent money-free game – to be a dirty business. But if you have decided to take the chances and try – keep in mind that you’d better follow some basic instructions in order to succeed. First of all, a SEO- and SMM-specialist is a must here. As well as choosing the right contractor of a casino software for your website. And do not forget about the license, we are sure you do not want to spend your first incomes on paying a fine! Good luck!
