BAD RELIGION RELEASE NEW TRACK “WHAT ARE WE STANDING FOR”

Preeminent Los Angeles band Bad Religion have just released “What Are We Standing For,” an outtake from the band’s critically acclaimed 2019 album Age Of Unreason. The song is one of support and compassion for professional athletes, and others, whom have taken a knee to protest police brutality and racism. Bad Religion have always advocated for humanism, reason, and individualism, which in our current political climate is a message that has never been more essential.

In this time of tribal nationalism, dissent, as a form of political speech, is vital to democracy,” says co-songwriter and guitarist Brett Gurewitz.

LISTEN TO “WHAT ARE WE STANDING FOR”

ABOUT BAD RELIGION
Bad Religion,
formed in 1980 in the suburbs of Los Angeles, has become synonymous with intelligent and provocative West Coast punk rock and are considered one of the most influential and important bands in the genre. Bad Religion has continually pushed social boundaries and questioned authority and beliefs armed only with propulsive guitars, charging drumbeats, thoughtful lyrics and an undying will to inspire and provoke anyone who will listen.

The band’s critically acclaimed 17th studio album Age of Unreason offers a fiery and intensely relevant musical response to the times, with songs that address a myriad of socio-political maladies, including conspiracy theories, racist rallies, Trump’s election, the erosion of the middle class, alternative facts and more. There is a stylistic consistency to the band’s iconic and influential sound – hard fast beats, big hooks and rousing choruses, yet each new song remains distinctive, utilizing composition, melody and lyrics to deliver a unique narrative consistent with the band’s longstanding humanist worldview.

Enjoying the Best of Organ Performance with VST Plugins

The organ is an amazing instrument that is very similar to the piano in that they are both played using the same musical principle based on white and black keys that represent the musical scale. This is however how far their similarity goes. This instrument has an interesting and rich history which you can find here.

While the piano naturally delivers a bright, delineated sound that is only sustained when a sustain pedal is used or while the note is held down, the organ on the other hand delivers a rich sustained sound that has a naturally lengthy decay time.

This instrument is easily among the oldest instruments still relevant in modern music. In this article, we will take a quick look at this instrument and how practically anyone can use it in their music projects.

A Look at this Instrument

Like we mentioned above, this is one of the oldest instruments available today. It also has a number of variations with marked differences mainly in their sound. This difference in sound can be readily linked to the principle behind their functions.

Let’s quickly look at a few examples.

Types of Organs

We can broadly group the many different types of organs into two – Pipe and non-pipe organs.

Pipe organ describes the types that make their sound using the passage of air through precisely measured pipes. This is probably the earliest form of this instrument. You will also find that the largest of organs fall under this category.

Some examples that fall under this category include: church, concert, theater and chamber organs.

For the non-pipe category, we have other variations that make use of methods other than air passing through pipes. Examples include those that use reed, electricity, water, steam and digital synthesis.

All you need to do is look at the names to know how they generate their sound. The reed type uses reeds like the accordion while the others use electricity, water, steam and digital synthesis respectively.

The digital or electronic variant tries to simulate the tones of these various types so it does not necessarily have a tone of its own.

You can find an extensive list of the different types here: https://www.quora.com/What-are-the-different-types-of-Organ-instruments.

The VST Plugin Solution

With over 10 types of this instrument to choose from based on their unique tones, it is practically impossible for anyone to own each one of them. This setback has thankfully been overcome with the help of technology.

Thanks to VST plugins, it is now possible to enjoy the different tones and feel of these different types of organs all from one point. You can now easily feature the different tones in a musical production without having to physically have any of these instruments anywhere near you.

This is the power and benefit of VST plugins.

What are VST Plugins?

If you know enough about computers, then you will likely have come across the word plugins. These are third party software of programs that can be installed within an existing program to perform a specific function.

VST on the other hand is a special platform that makes it possible for software that simulate the functions of hardware equipment and sounds of instruments to be used within a digital audio workstation or as a standalone instrument player on your computer.

This means that an organ VST plugin can be used to play organ sounds within a DAW or alone without having any physical organ instrument. This most certainly makes it very easy for small studio owners to be able to explore their creativity, using sounds that would usually have been beyond their means and physical capacity to use.

You can read more about the VST platform in this post.

Factors to Consider when Choosing

When choosing an organ VST plugin, there are some important things that have to be considered. We will quickly look at some of the more important factors.

Realism

When we use virtual instruments, more often than not, we do so because the alternative is way more expensive and demanding. It therefore means that we want the instrument to sound as real as possible.

To ensure this, you should find out if the product is synthesized or sampled. A synthesized plugin will have tones generated through computer programming, though this process is getting highly sophisticated, it is usually pretty difficult to get really realistic tones this way.

The alternative which is also a lot more expensive is the sampled variants. In this type, the tones are sampled (recorded) from actual live performances of the instrument. The process is usually very tedious and highly demanding as the aim is to capture every nuance and feel that the instrument produces.

In more cases than not, this should be your choice if you want the best of realism.

Cost

How much you are willing to spend will determine which you should go for. Thankfully, you can get plugins from less than hundred dollars to thousands of dollars. So, decide on your budget and choose one that fits it.

Size

You should also note that some virtual instruments require a lot of space for their sample libraries. This is especially true for sampled ones. You should therefore ensure you have enough space for the choice you make.

Compatibility

There are different platforms in which different plugins can operate. Our focus here is VST so you should ensure that the DAW and OS you are using supports VST.

If you do not know where to find these plugins, you may want to check out any top VST plugin hub online for some great recommendations.

Conclusion

As a musician or music producer today, there are so many tools that you can use to enhance your performance and music as a whole. We’ve just looked at one of such tools and we hope that you’ve gotten some information that will help you going forward.

Legendary guitarist and co-founder of Van Halen, Eddie Van Halen has died after a long battle with throat cancer .

It was said that in the last 72 hours Eddie’s ongoing health battle went massively downhill — doctors discovered his throat cancer had moved to his brain as well as other organs.

Eddie has been battling cancer for well over a decade. Our sources say he’s been in and out of the hospital over the past year — including last November for intestinal issues and recently underwent a round of chemo. Though he was a heavy smoker for years, he believes he developed throat cancer from a metal guitar pick he used to frequently hold in his mouth more than 20 years ago. Nevertheless, he continued to attend concerts and rehearse music with his son, Wolfgang, who became Van Halen’s bassist in 2006.

Eddie formed the classic rock group in Pasadena in 1972 with his brother, Alec, on drums, Michael Anthony on bass and David Lee Roth singing. Eddie served as the main songwriter on their self-titled debut album in 1978 which launched the group into rock superstardom in the ’80s. Van Halen was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2007, and Eddie is widely considered one the greatest guitar players of all time.

Trust Records, a new label from punk and industry vets Matt Pincus and Joe Nelson, is thrilled to announce its debut release — 1980’s landmark, Group Sex — from Los Angeles hardcore stalwarts, the Circle Jerks. Out October 30, the genre-shaping fifteen minute album was the first release for vocalist Keith Morris (OFF!) after leaving Black Flag and was a key record to the early hardcore punk movement. Backed by Greg Hetson (ex Redd Kross, ex Bad Religion), Lucky Lehrer (ex-Bad Religion, ex-Wasted Youth, ex-Redd Kross) and Roger RogersonGroup Sex is nothing less than a crucial record to the hardcore punk movement.

Trust Records was formed to give classic punk and hardcore records the home that they deserve. The great records of the genre sprung from DIY roots to influence millions of disaffected kids around the world. Unfortunately, many of these seminal records of this great genre have been treated poorly in the streaming age – out of print, under-monetized or not properly accounted for. Trust Records’ mission is to correct this problem and treat punk and hardcore with the same reverence that other great genres like folk, jazz and blues have received.

“Before they had a name for the label Matt and Joe came to [us] with an opportunity of a lifetime,” says vocalist Keith Morris. “So choosing the name Trust Records is very appropriate as they’ve been nothing short of trustworthy and people of their word. That’s insanely important when navigating through the music branch of showbiz world!”

In celebration of Group Sex’s 40th anniversary, Trust will present the seminal release with deluxe packaging by Robert Fisher, designer of Nirvana’s Nevermind, a bonus recording of a 1980 rehearsal, a 20-page booklet including unreleased photos and anecdotes from Tony HawkMike PattonShepard FaireyIan MacKayeLarsFrederiksen and many more, in addition to a quality repackaging in a limited colored vinyl schema. Since the band announced the cancellation of their entire 2020 touring schedule, Alter Bridge has taken time to do what they are known best for – creating. Never a band to take a lot of personal time off, the band reviewed live recordings from their shows in January/February 2020 to pick a few of their live favorites of songs from their latest album Walk The Sky. This led bandmembers Myles Kennedy, Mark Tremonti, Brian Marshall and Scott Phillips to begin sharing ideas for a new studio song. Those collective ideas would yield a new, original song entitled “Last Rites” – a track written, recorded and completed entirely during the Covid-19 lockdown.  The final version of “Last Rites”, along with live versions of “Wouldn’t You Rather,” “Pay No Mind,” “Native Son,” “Godspeed,” “In the Deep” and “Dying Light”, will form the new 7-song EP, Walk The Sky 2.0.

The new Walk The Sky 2.0 EP is now available for pre-order in various configurations. In other news, Alter Bridge are releasing a new single from their latest album, Walk The Sky, entitled “Native Son,” which has racked up over five million worldwide streams to date, and is currently impacting at radio. In celebration of this announcement, the band have released an official video for the song. The video – an animated short created completely using stop-animation techniques and incorporating origami to create a unique visual effect – starts by following a dark figure set in a prairie farmland setting. The viewer finds the character struggling to survive as that backdrop then morphs and gives way to industrialization and a city overtaking the original landscape. The visuals echo the lyrical sentiment of: “I’m a native son in a foreign land. I’m just living in a world I can’t understand.”

The video for “Native Son” was created by Stefano Bertelli and can be seen here: https://youtu.be/A514cEfnbcA

Alter Bridge burst onto the music scene in 2004 with the release of their gold-selling debut, One Day Remains. In 2007, the band released Blackbird, the album that elevated the band’s profile worldwide. The epic solo in the title track “Blackbird” was voted “Greatest Guitar Solo Of All Time” by Guitarist Magazine. ABIII was released in 2010 and the single “Isolation” gave the band their first #1 single. In 2013, the band reached an elevated creative and critical plateau with Fortress. It bowed at #12 on the Billboard Top 200, moving over 30,000 copies first-week and earning unanimous tastemaker praise. The record garnered perfect scores from Total Guitar and KERRANG! as well as acclaim from BillboardThe GuardianLoudwireUltimate Guitar, and many more. In between sold out tours in Europe and North America, the guys appeared on VH1 and graced the cover of Classic Rock Magazine who labeled Fortress, “The best thing they’ve ever done,” while Eddie Trunk called it, “A top 10 album of the last 10 years.” 2016’s The Last Hero gave the band their first Top 10 album since their debut. Alter Bridge has appeared on The Tonight Show and Jimmy Kimmel Live and their music has been used by the WWE, Major League Baseball and NASCAR to name a few. The band recently released the video and audio of their career highlight, Live At The Royal Albert Hall, featuring Alter Bridge backed by the 52-piece Parallax Orchestra led by conductor Simon Dobson. Alter Bridge released their latest album Walk The Sky (Napalm Records) to critical acclaim and career milestone chart success. The latest album brought the band their first ever #1 on Top Current Albums chart. The band’s newest release found a home at #1 on over a dozen charts around the globe and in December 2019, Guitar World magazine voted Mark Tremonti the Guitarist of the Decade. Alter Bridge are showing no signs of slowing down.

An album that showcases the dynamic talents of the guitar virtuoso, hard rock fans will be transported back to the days when giants like Steve Vai and Joe Satriani dominated the mainstream consciousness (and airwaves), while also simultaneously being shown a guitarist ever pushing himself forward into the future.

Reb Beach is one of the indisputable guitar giants of the current hard rock scene. His resume with ‘80s/’90s mega-stars Winger alone would earn him this distinction, but his legacy is cemented by his current membership and work with the legendary Whitesnake, his past efforts with Dokken, and his recent release with supergroup Black Swan, also featuring Jeff Pilson, Robin MacAuley, and Matt Starr.

Influenced by the legendary hard rockers of the ‘70s, Reb spent his teen years jamming along with the greats of that era like Aerosmith and Montrose, but it was when he discovered more progressive players like Steve Morse, Allan Holdsworth, and Larry Carlton that his musical world really opened up. The complexity and the speed of the more prog style of playing was a unique challenge compared to the blues-based playing of most musicians of that era. The discovery of these players was ultimately the catalyst that drove his playing to the level he is now so well known to music fans the world over for. Beach eventually graduated from his home practice space to the Berkeley School of Music, but after a couple of semesters he moved on and soon became one of the most sought-after session players in the music industry, working with such all-time great talents as Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Roger Daltrey, Chaka Kahn, Howard Jones, and Twisted Sister.

While living in NYC, he hooked up with his future bandmate, bassist and frontman Kip Winger. Reb and Kip formed the band Winger and the rest is history. The two proved to be incredible writing partners, crafting multiple platinum records that featured no less than six Top Forty singles. with music that was commercial yet complex.

After Winger went on a hiatus in the ‘90s, Beach’s career continued thanks to collaborations with Alice Cooper, Dokken and Night Ranger and he debuted as a solo artist in 2002 with the album “Masquerade”.

Following the Winger reunion in the ‘00s, Reb heard that David Coverdale was looking for a new guitarist for Whitesnake. He reached out to him and since 2003, Reb has toured the world with the band as well as released multiple albums with them, including “Good to Be Bad,” “Forevermore,” “The Purple Album,” and the recent “Flesh & Blood,” plus a number of live albums.

Reb Beach will now release his first instrumental album, but this is not a mere exercise of self-indulgence. It is the culmination of over 30 years of study and extremely hard work on his craft. Fans of Steve Morse and Joe Satriani will find a lot to love in the 11 songs on offer here, but while there is certainly a lot of ear candy for the musician types, fans of hard rock in general will find a wealth of melodies and transcendent moments where the songs simply make you forget there are no vocals.

BAD RELIGION SHARE “LOSE YOUR HEAD (DEMO VERSION)”

“Lose Your Head” is a fan favorite from Bad Religion’s critically acclaimed 2019 album Age of Unreason.  Today, the band is releasing a demo version of the song, with a faster tempo and alternate lyrics, that provides a unique glimpse into the band’s creative process.

Co-songwriters Brett Gurewitz and Greg Graffin developed this version of the song at Gurewitz’ home studio in Pasadena California.  When producer Carlos de la Garza was brought on board, he suggested trying a slower version.  The band liked both versions equally so, when they entered Sunset Sound to record Age of Unreason, they decided to work on basic tracks for both and choose later.  It was a close call but ultimately the band chose the slow version which is the one they completed.

This demo version is the result of taking previously unreleased rhythm tracks from the Sunset Sound sessions and combining them with the original home demo recordings to bring the fast version of the song to life.

Longtime fans will enjoy this rare look into the evolution of a Bad Religion song.

Last month, Bad Religionreleased their autobiography, DO WHAT YOU WANT: The Story of Bad Religion, written with their full cooperation and support. It reveals the ups and downs of the band’s 40-year career, from their beginnings as teenagers experimenting in a San Fernando Valley garage dubbed “The Hell Hole” to headlining major music festivals around the world. The book predominantly features the four principal voices of Bad Religion in a hybrid oral history/narrative format: Greg Graffin, Brett Gurewitz, Jay Bentley, and Brian Baker. It also includes rare photos and never-before-seen material from their archives.

JINJER Announces Alive In Melbourne Live Album

Pre-Orders Available Now Order HERE

Ukrainian modern metal leaders JINJER have announced the official release of the audio recordings from one of the last metal shows played on the planet before the global Covid-19 lockdown: their ferocious sold out Melbourne, Australia performance on March 5, 2020.

Their newly announced upcoming live album, Alive In Melbourne features stunning artwork by gifted JINJER fan Gabriel Nicoletti, includes 17 tracks in total (see tracklist below) and will be released on November 20, 2020 via Napalm Records.

Commented the band: “Some shows just deserve to be carved in stone and memorialized forever. This was the case regarding our first ever Australian tour in March 2020, where we hit a few milestones all at once: we finally played on every continent there is to play on, our first time in down under was a complete sellout and more importantly we experienced the love, passion and craziness we’ve always heard so much about the Australian crowd. Hell, there were even fans from New Zealand that showed up to the party. Now, after nearly half year of lockdown I can barely watch this footage without shedding a few tears. If any of you knew how much time, patience, nerves and effort we put into making this live album possible- you would probably be surprised we managed to pull it off at all. Adversity kept coming and coming, and coming at us again and again but here we are : Alive in Melbourne 2020 is real and it’s coming out in all it’s visual and sonic glory! Let’s watch it, listen to it and let’s remember how a real metal gig should look and sound: the sweat, the volume, the performance and the crowd … we need this feeling back! I am proud that we managed to capture this place in time and share it with you as our first official live album!”

Coinciding with the announcement, the band has also released a live video for their pummeling tech groove track “Teacher, Teacher!”, the opening song of the afore-mentioned show.
