LOS ANGELES, CA (August 14, 2012) – From the studio that brought you Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus and Zombie Apocalypse come two new action-thrillers – featuring Alice Cooper, two former teen heartthrobs, an especially tall and hairy beast and a large array of deadly species of shark – that prove that there is no escape from monsters both terrestrial and aquatic.

Two of TV’s most beloved child actors, Danny Bonaduce (The Partridge Family) and Barry Williams (The Brady Bunch) unite, assisted by Sherilyn Fenn (Rude Awakening, Boston Public), to make it through Bigfoot’s startling appearance at a music festival in North Dakota in Bigfoot.  Directed by Bruce Davison, Bigfoot is debuting on Blu-ray™, DVD and On Demand August 14 from The Asylum. And see who survives the shark-infested waters of an isolated island run by a rich madman, played by Patrick Bergin (Patriot Games) in Shark Week.  Featuring Yancy Bulter of As the World Turns and Kickass fame, Shark Week debuts on Blu-ray™, DVD and On Demand August 28.  Both projects successfully debuted on Syfy earlier this summer.  Pick up a copy of these hits on Blu-ray™ or DVD for bonus features including a behind-the-scenes featurette “The Making of Bigfoot” and “The Making of Shark Week,” respectively. The films will be available for $14.95 SRP (Blu-ray) and $14.95 SRP (DVD).

Synopsis of Bigfoot:

When Bigfoot attacks an 80s-themed music concert, a concert promoter and a hippie burnout will do anything to protect the “endangered species.”

Produced by David Michael Latt, David Rimawi and Paul Bales; directed by Bruce Davison; and written by Micho Rutare and Brian Brinkman.

Synopsis of Shark Week:

A group of complete strangers find themselves isolated by a wealthy madman on his island compound. They are forced into a horrifying gauntlet where they must survive a barrage of ever deadlier species of shark.

Produced by David Michael Lett, David Rimawi and Paul Bales; directed by Douglas-Olen Ray; and written by H. Perry Horton.

I am also so excited to have Preston Mack! He is such an accomplished photographer and I am honored that he will be sharing his time and talents with us!”

• In addition, Eckstein will be hosting a very special panel with author Carrie Goldman based on her new book, Bullied – What Every Parent, Teacher, and Kid Needs to Know About Ending the Cycle of Fear. Standing 3/4” in height, there will be only 300 of these adorable little droid charms available at the convention. However, Eckstein recognizes that not all fans have the opportunity to join the fun and travel to Celebration VI, so she is making available a limited number (50 of each) of the two exclusive CVI items on www.heruniverse.com. The exclusives will be available starting at 10 AM EST on August 23rd. First come, first served. In addition to these exclusives, fans can buy Her Universe merchandise at booth #915 for female fans of all ages, including babies and plus sizes. Magnolia Home Entertainment and Phase 4 Films Divide U.S. Rights to Feature Film SUSHI GIRL

Los Angeles, CA – August 1, 2012 – The Wagner/Cuban Company’s Magnolia Home Entertainment and Phase 4 Films announced today they have jointly acquired North American rights to the Mark Hamill film SUSHI GIRL. The revenge thriller had its international premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival on July 21st 2012, to be followed by a theatrical release in the U.S. and cable VOD by Phase 4 Films in late 2012, with Blu-ray™, DVD and digital VOD release by Magnolia Home Entertainment under the Magnet Releasing label in early 2013. Phase 4 Films will also distribute the film theatrically and on home video in Canada.

The hotly anticipated genre-bending thriller by director Kern Saxton (co-writer of the film along with Destin Pfaff) is produced by Assembly Line, a team including Neal Fischer, Pfaff, Saxton and Suren M. Seron, in association with Level Up Productions.

Mark Hamill (Star Wars Franchise) and Tony Todd (Candyman) lead a cast of cult heroes including Noah Hathaway (The NeverEnding Story), James Duval (Donnie Darko), Andy Mackenzie (MacGruber), David Dastmalchian (The Dark Knight) and Cortney Palm (Superbad). Sushi Girl also includes feature appearances by Michael Biehn (Aliens), Sonny Chiba (Kill Bill Vol. 1), Jeff Fahey (Grindhouse) and Danny Trejo (Machete).

The film centers on the compelling character of a man called “Fish,” just released after six years in jail after successfully not ratting on those involved in the robbery that sent him to prison. The night he is released, the men he protected with silence celebrate his freedom with a congratulatory dinner. The meal is a lavish array of sushi, served off the naked body of a beautiful young woman. The sushi girl seems catatonic, trained to ignore everything in the room, even if things become dangerous. Sure enough, the unwieldy thieves can’t help but open old wounds in an attempt to find their missing loot, with violent results.

“SUSHI GIRL’s all-star ensemble of fan favorite actors will resonate with the Magnet audience,” said Head of Magnolia Home Entertainment Randy Wells. “Kern and the SUSHI GIRL production team have put together an incredibly cool, well-crafted thriller, and Mark Hamill’s performance will leave fans buzzing.”

“We both loved the film so much that teaming up was the only option,” said Larry Greenberg, SVP Acquisitions of Phase 4 Films.

“It was a long battle to get the right distribution for this film, but we are extremely happy with how our partners have worked together with us to create a win for everyone involved,” said Suren M. Seron of Assembly Line.

The deals were negotiated by Magnolia’s Director of Acquisitions Peter Van Steemburg, Head of Legal and Business Affairs Chris Matson, and Phase 4’s Larry Greenberg, with Nate Bolotin and Aram Tertzakian of XYZ Films and Suren M. Seron of Assembly Line.

LOS ANGELES (July 2, 2012) – XLrator Media proudly announces the VOD and DVD release of WE THE PARTY. The film stars Snoop Dogg, YG, The New Boyz, The Rej3ctz, The Pink Dollaz, Mario Van Peebles, Michael Jai White, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Tiny Lister, Melvin Van Peebles, Mandela Van Peebles, Simone Battle, Moises Arias, Orlando Brown and Quincy Brown.

A revealing look at contemporary youth culture, writer-director Mario Van Peebles’ WE THE PARTY shows teenagers as they are, not as adults would like them to be. Set amidst the latest trends in music, dance and fashion, WE THE PARTY is a colorful, cutting-edge comedy set in an ethnically diverse Los Angeles high school during America’s first black president. The film focuses on five friends as they deal with romance, money, prom, college, sex, bullies, facebook, fitting in, standing out, and finding themselves. Evoking such classic teen comedies as The Breakfast Club and House Party but with an attitude and style all its own, WE THE PARTY captures the hopes, confusion, challenges and dreams of today’s teenagers as they plunge headlong into an uncertain future.

The DVD and Blu-ray bonus features include a feature-length commentary by writer-director Mario Van Peebles and actors Mandela Van Peebles and Makaylo Van Peebles, 4 music videos from the film (“Truth,” “She’s a Vegan,” “A Light at the End of the Tunnel,” and “Forever”), and the theatrical trailer.

Richard D. Zanuck, producer of “Jaws,” dies at 77

Richard D. Zanuck, who rose from out of his famous father’s shadow to become one of the most successful film producers in history, died yesterday in Los Angeles after suffering a heart attack. He was 77.

Born of Hollywood royalty (his father was legendary studio head Darryl F. Zanuck, his mother actress Virginia Fox), Mr. Zanuck began working for his father, then head of 20th Century Fox, as a producer, finally elevated to President of the studio. It was while at Fox that he met fellow producer David Brown. In 1967, after the failure of such films as “Dr. Doolittle,” Zanuck was fired by his father. In 1972 he teamed up with Brown, forming the Zanuck/Brown company. Their 16 year partnership produced such films as “The Sting,” “The Sugarland Express,” “Jaws,” “The Verdict” and “Cocoon.” In 1989, with his new wife, Lili Fini Zanuck producing alongside him, he produced “Driving Miss Daisy.” The film would go on to win the Academy Award for Best Picture. Later films include: “Rules of Engagement,” “Road to Perdition” and six films with director Tim Burton, including this years’ “Dark Shadows.”

In the 1960s Zanuck married actress Linda Harrison. They raised two sons, Harrison and Dean, both now producers in their own right. One of my favorite stories of Mr. Zanuck concerns the production of “Jaws.” He had assured his wife, Linda, that she would play Mrs. Brody in the film. Unbeknownst to Zanuck, the head of Universal Studios, Sid Sheinberg, had promised the role to HIS wife, actress Lorraine Gary. To keep peace in the Universal family, Sheinberg called producer William Frye, who was currently making “Airport ’75.” “Bill,” he said to Frye, “you’ve got another passenger on your airplane!”

Oscar winner Ernest Borgnine dies at age 95

When we started this web site Mike G. and I both had a “wish list” of celebrities we’d like to interview. One of the ones on mine was Ernest Borgnine. Over the years we played cat and mouse, trying to nail down a time when he wasn’t working. I actually came within 20 minutes of speaking with him when he was recalled back to the set of the film he was working on for re-shoots. I can remember receiving an email from his manager a few months ago telling me that, because of my patience and perseverance, he would try to put Ernie and I in touch with each other. Sadly, that conversation will never take place. Mr. Borgnine passed away today from renal failure. He was 95.

Born Ermes Effron Borgnine on January 24, 1917, the son of Charles and Anna, whose families had emigrated to the United States from Italy. Unsure about what career to pursue after graduating high school Borgnine joined the U.S. Navy, where he served for a decade, receiving his discharge in 1945. It was his mother who suggested, because of his personality, that he use his G.I. benefits and study acting. He spent four years working in a local Abingdon, Virginia theatre troupe before making his Broadway debut in 1949 in the show, “Harvey,” which closed shortly after he joined (the show had run for almost five years). He continued to work in NYC until he headed to California, where he made his film debut as the Chinese (!) runner of a gambling club in “China Corsair.”

He continued to work in film and episodic television for the next couple of years. In 1953 he won the role that would establish him as one of the screens most hated characters, Sgt. “Fatso” Judson, in the Oscar winning “From Here to Eternity.” He excelled at playing screen heavies but, in 1955, was cast against type as quiet, lovelorn butcher Marty Piletti in “Marty.” To many Borgnine showed a range they hadn’t imagined. He truly won over his peers because he would go on to win the Academy Award as Best Actor for his performance. He would work steadily for the next six years in film and T.V. until he joined fellow Oscar winners Donna Reed (“The Donna Reed Show”) and Shirley Booth (“Hazel”) in the growing and popular world of television, forgoing his film career to star as Captain Quentin McHale in the naval comedy “McHale’s Navy.”

When the show ended it’s run he returned to the big screen in two major films, 1967’s “The Dirty Dozen” and, two years later, “The Wild Bunch.” In 1972 he was part of an all-star cast featured in the disaster-epic “The Poseidon Adventure.” As policeman Mike Rogo, on honeymoon with his former call girl wife, he gives a virtuoso performance steeped in both macho toughness and devastating heartbreak. SPOILER ALERT: When his wife is killed he breaks down and curses Gene Hackman’s preacher and, through him, God, telling Him, “You took from me the only thing I ever loved in the whole world, my Linda!”

He continued to work steadily for the next four decades, appearing in such television productions as “All Quiet on the Western Front,” “Jesus of Nazareth” and “Hoover,” as well as supporting roles in such shows as “Air Wolf” and “The Single Guy,” as well as such notable films like “Escape From New York,” “The Black Hole,” “Baseketball” and last years spy-drama “RED.” Younger generations will always remember him as the voice of Mermaidman on the animated “Spongebob SquarePants.” I will always remember him as an actor who always amazed and who did what he loved until the day he died. I wish fate would have put us together, even on the telephone. It would have been one of those moments I’d always remember.

Andy Griffith, television icon, dead at 86

Andy Griffith, whose down-home and folksy persona earned him fans from all generations, died today at the age of 86. No cause of death has been given.

North Carolina born, Griffith earned a degree in music from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and soon found himself appearing of the Ed Sullivan and Steve Allen television programs. Those appearances led to him being cast in the Broadway show ‘No Time For Sergeants,” which earned him a Tony award nomination for supporting actor. He would earn a second nomination in 1960 as Best Actor in a Musical for “Destry Rides Again.” That same year he also took on one of his two most memorable roles, that of small town sheriff Andy Taylor in “The Andy Griffith Show.” The show ran 8 seasons on CBS, then became “Mayberry R.F.D” when Griffith elected to leave the show. He did appear in six episodes of the new show as a way to show continuity. He spent the next decade appearing on film and the occasional episodic television shows.

in 1981, he earned an Emmy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Mini Series for his work in “Murder in Texas.” Incredibly, this was the only Emmy nomination he would receive in his career.

He made his film debut in the Elia Kazan movie “A Face In The Crowd.” His performance as “Lonesome” Rhodes is memorable. His work, as a backwoods hobo who rises to the rank of kingmaker as his popularity grows is one of the greatest film debuts in history.

In 1986 Griffith returned to television full time with the legal series, “Matlock.” In later years Griffith called the role his all time favorite.

But it is as Sheriff Andy Taylor that I will remember him. Still a television re-run staple, “The Andy Griffith Show” is a look back to a simpler time, when you knew your neighbors and your neighbors knew you! With Griffith’s passing only Ron Howard and actress Betty Lynn, who played Thelma Lou on the show, are the only surviving regulars left from the cast.

Dr. Henry Frankenstein (Colin Clive) dares to tamper with the essential nature of life and death by creating a monster (Karloff) out of lifeless human body parts. Bride of Frankenstein (1935)

The acclaimed sequel to the original Frankenstein has become one of the most popular horror classics in film history. “Indiana Jones: The Complete Adventures” Arrives on Blu-ray for the First Time

ON SEPTEMBER 18th, THE MAN WITH THE HAT COMES HOME
LOOKING BETTER THAN EVER

INDIANA JONES: THE COMPLETE ADVENTURES ARRIVES ON BLU-RAY™ FOR THE FIRST TIME, COMPLETELY REMASTERED AND INCLUDING A METICULOUSLY RESTORED VERSION OF RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (June 26, 2012) – In June of 1981 director Steven Spielberg and executive producer George Lucas introduced  the world to Indiana Jones when the unforgettable Raiders of the Lost Ark debuted in theaters. Exploding to instant acclaim, the film has now been carefully restored, alongside remastered versions of the archaeologist’s other thrilling adventures—Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.  Prepare for excitement, adventure and snakes—why did it have to be snakes?—all with pristine picture and sound when INDIANA JONES: The Complete Adventures debuts on Blu-ray September 18, 2012 from Lucasfilm Ltd. and Paramount Home Media Distribution.

Supervised by director Steven Spielberg and renowned sound designer Ben Burtt, Raiders of the Lost Ark has been meticulously restored with careful attention to preserving the original look, sound and feel of the iconic film.  The original negative was first scanned at 4K and then examined frame-by-frame so that any damage could be repaired.

The sound design was similarly preserved using Burtt’s original master mix, which had been archived and unused since 1981.  New stereo surrounds were created using the original music tracks and original effects recorded in stereo but used previously only in mono.  In addition, the sub bass was redone entirely up to modern specifications and care was taken to improve dialogue and correct small technical flaws to create the most complete and highest quality version of the sound possible while retaining the director’s vision.  The result is an impeccable digital restoration that celebrates the film and its place in cinematic history.

The installments in the franchise have won a combined seven Academy Awards®. Relive every heart-pounding thrill like never before as all four films arrive together, for the first time presented in 1080p high definition with English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio accompanied by a collection of documentaries, interviews, featurettes and new bonus features.

Chad Lindberg talks about “My Big Break” and upcoming “Alex Cross”

Chad Lindberg stars in the documentary “My Big Break”, which is directed by Tony Zierra and follows the early careers of himself, Wes Bentley, Brad Rowe and Gregory Fawcett. Chad is also known for his roles in films like “October Sky” and “The Fast and the Furious”. Chad is co-starring in the upcoming film “Alex Cross” and recently landed a guest star role on the TV series “Weeds”. Chad took out some time to chat with Media Mikes about “My Big Break” and what he is currently working on.

Mike Gencarelli: Can you tell us about “My Big Break”?
Chad Lindberg: It’s cool to have that time in my life documented. Not many actors can say they had their experience documented on tape. I always looked at it as a taping tool. I thought it would be good one day for actors, film makers, directors and people who wanted to get into the business. We are one story out of many. They are all kind of the same in a way. People make it and then fame happens and what that does to relationships. I still look at this as a tool. A lot of people are seeing it and enjoying it. I can’t ask for more than that.

MG: Do you feel the documentary will help your career since it has been finally released?
CL: I never looked at it like that. I thought it was just good to have it out there so people can learn from it. I get to plug it in 20 years from now and look back on it and go wow! It’s pretty cool. Hopefully it will help people somehow. They can watch it and think maybe I am not crazy or maybe I am crazy and it’s ok. (Laughs)

MG: Do you keep in touch with any of the guys from the film?
CL: I do. I see Wes every once in awhile. I talk to Greg all the time. Brad I haven’t seen or talked to in about a year. I also talk to Tony quite a bit.

MG: Can you tell us about your work on “MoniKa”?
CL: I worked a little bit on that film. I am a big fan of Steven Monroe who I worked with on “I Spit on Your Grave”. He asked if I would be in the film and I said of course. He is very talented. I shot a few days in Vegas playing a detective. We had fun.

MG: How did you prepare for your role in “I Spit on Your Grave”?
CL: I was cast about two weeks before we started shooting. I don’t know how we prepared for that. I just tried to keep things close to heart and represent the character the best I could. The character is mentally challenged and I wanted to do that role honestly. I also wanted the audience to feel compassion for the character as much as they could. When you are shooting material like that there is not a lot of acting involved. You are just reacting to the craziness that is going on around you. Everyone is just feeling each other. Hair was standing up on the backs of our necks. You don’t get that feeling every time you work on a project. We were highfrom the work.

MG: Can you tell us about your work on “Alex Cross”?
CL: Rob Cohen who directed “The Fast and the Furious” is the director of this film. I got to do a small part in the film where I worked with Tyler Perry, Mathew Fox and Edward Burns. I got to go and get my butt kicked a little bit. It’s going to be a big film. It was fun to work with Rob again as I had not seen him in about 10 years.

MG: Do you have any other projects you wanted to mention?
CL: I just booked a guest star role on “Weeds”. I am pretty excited about that.
