SYNOPSIS

Pontiac, MI., July 25, 2011—Walt Disney Pictures’ fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” directed by Sam Raimi, went in front of the cameras at the brand-new Raleigh Studios in Pontiac, Michigan, on Monday, July 25, 2011, boasting a stellar cast that includes Academy Award® nominee James Franco (“127 Hours”) as the young wizard, Golden Globe® nominee Mila Kunis (“Black Swan”) as the witch Theodora, Academy Award® winner Rachel Weisz (“The Constant Gardener”) as Kunis’ sister Evanora and two-time Oscar®-nominated actress Michelle Williams (“Brokeback Mountain,” “Blue Valentine”) as Glinda, the Good Witch.

“Oz The Great and Powerful” imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

The Actor’s Golden Box at the Acting Studio at Edgemar Center for the Arts Taught by Renowned Acting Coach Michelle Danner

Each month, The Acting Studio at Edgemar Center for the Arts in Santa Monica  presents The Actor’s Golden Box, a two-day intensive program of training taught by renowned acting coach Michelle Danner.

Actors learn how to create vivid, fleshed-out and interesting characters through an intense and emotional workshop with technique exercises and lectures. Not just for actors, the course is also of benefit to writers and others in allied professions.

The class is supported by film clips and there are discussions and analyses of performances by Meryl Streep, Judi Dench, Anthony Hopkins, Al Pacino, Marlon Brando, James Dean and others.

Exercises include learning how to build provocative and complex back stories by opening up your instrument emotionally and finding triggers and psychological gestures in your work.

Danner, Artistic Director of the Edgemar Center for the Arts, has coached some of Hollywood’s most elite actors including James Franco, Salma Hayek, Gerard Butler, Chris Rock, Penelope Cruz, Isla Fisher and more. She has directed and acted in over 30 plays and musicals in Los Angeles and New York, and has directed two films, “How to Go Out on a Date in Queens” (starring Jason Alexander and Rob Estes) and the recently-completed “Hello Herman” (starring Norman Reedus and Martha Hagerida).

Synopsis

Premise for “The Human Centipede”:

Fans of the first film can rejoice that Tom Six has already completed the second film in the series titled “The Human Centipede II (Full Sequence)”, which has been scheduled for release on DVD in 2011 but was refused a classification for distribution in the UK due to its explicit content.

We recently interviewed Tom Sullivan known for his work on the “Evil Dead” series.  The full interview will be posted in mid-August during our “Evil Dead” interviews series, including Danny Hicks, Betsy Baker, Theresa Tilly and Timothy Quill.

Following our interview with Mr. Sullivan, he said  he had a little news that we could break for him as a MovieMikes exclusive:

Ryan Meade, a friend of Mr. Sullivan and a filmmaker, is finishing up a documentary film about Mr. Sullivan called “Invaluable.” The title comes from the word Fangoria Magazine has used to describe Mr. Sullivan’s involvement in the “Evil Dead” films. The film covers Mr. Sullivan’s art and film career and includes interviews with some of films biggest stars, including, of course, the cast and crew of the “Evil Dead” films. The film will also feature a lot of behind the scenes looks at the “Evil Dead” films.

“It’s official. There’s a documentary about Tom Sullivan. The Evil Dead FX Guy, Tom Sullivan. Not the other ones. Although they would be worthy subjects of well made documtarys too. “Children’s Hospital” is an off-the-wall comedy/medical drama television series, created by and starring actor/comedian Rob Corddry. The show contains a great ensemble cast including Lake Bell, Erinn Hayes, Rob Huebel, Ken Marino, Megan Mullally, Malin Akerman and Henry Winkler.  June 2, 2001, marked the starts of the show’s third season.  The show has even spawned a spin-off already “National Terrorism Strike Force: San Diego: Sport Utility Vehicle” which is set to premiere July 21, 2011 on Adult Swim.

“Falling Skies” is a new sci-fi drama series that was created by Robert Rodat and Steven Spielberg. The series will be premiering on TNT on Sunday, June 19, 2011, with a two-hour premiere. The series will consist of 10 episodes.

The story behind the show deals with the aftermath of an alien invasion. It follows a group of survivors who come together to fight back against the invading aliens. The cast for the show Noah Wyle, Moon Bloodgood, Will Patton, Dale Dye, Drew Roy and Peter Shinkoda.

I have had the pleasure of watching the first five episodes in advance and let me tell you this is a show you will not want to miss this summer. The show mixes sci-fi with really great human drama which leads to a great show. I was also lucky enough to interview most of the primary cast from the show. They were able to chat with me about their experiences on the show and what we can expect from it.

FALLING SKIES CAST INTERVIEWS:

“Mortal Kombat: Legacy” is a new web series created by Kevin Tancharoen. The series takes place before the events of the first game and dives into the back stories of several characters from the series. There will be 10 episodes in the series and each one runs between 9-12 minutes. The series is spawned from Kevin’s short film entitled “Mortal Kombat: Rebirth”, which was released last year. This web series will hopefully be the launching ground for a new film in the “Mortal Kombat” franchise.

“Mortal Kombat: Legacy” stars Michael Jai White as Detective Jackson “Jax” Briggs, Jeri Ryan as Lieutenant Sonya Blade, Darren Shahlavi as Kano, Tahmoh Penikett as Kurtis Stryker, Matt Mullins as Johnny Cage, Johnson Phan as Shang Tsung, Aleks Paunovic as Shao Kahn, Sam Tjhia as Kitana, Jolene Tran as Mileena, Beatrice Ilg, Fraser Aitcheson as Baraka, Shane Warren Jones as Cyrax, Ryan Robbins as Raiden, Ian Anthony Dale as Scorpion, Peter Shinkoda as Sektor, Kevan Ohtsji as Sub-Zero and Michael Rogers as Quan Chi.

“Being Human” is a re-imagining of the acclaimed BBC original series that follows three 20-something roommates: A ghost, a vampire and a werewolf who are struggling to keep their dark secrets from the world, while also helping each other navigate the complexities of living double lives.

The series stars Sam Witwer (“Smallville”, “Battlestar Galactica”), Meaghan Rath (“The Assistants”), Sam Huntington (“Fanboys”, “Superman Returns”) and Mark Pellegrino (“Lost”, “Supernatural”).

Movie Mikes is a huge fan of this series and was lucky enough to conduct an interview series to cover this show. AMC’s new original series, “The Walking Dead” is based on Robert Kirkman’s hugely successful and popular comic book series. Written and executive produced by three-time Academy Award-nominee Frank Darabont (“The Shawshank Redemption”, “The Green Mile”), who also directed the pilot. The show is an epic, edge-of-your-seat drama where personal struggles are magnified against a backdrop of moment-to-moment survival. It follows County Sheriff Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) waking up in an empty hospital after weeks in a coma, finds himself utterly alone. The world as he knows it is gone, ravaged by a zombie epidemic. “The Walking Dead” tells the story of the weeks and months that follow after the apocalypse.

Movie Mikes have complied our biggest cast/crew interview series to date for “The Walking Dead”. Since the show aired on Oct.31st, 2010, it has become AMC highest rating series. Season two plans were put into full swing just after its premiere and is set for October 2011.

THE WALKING DEAD INTERVIEWS:

“Perfect Couples” is a romantic comedy that follows three flawed pairs trying to get it right. In the show we follow, Dave (Kyle Bornheimer) and Julia (Christine Woods) are the “everyday couple”. Vance (David Walton) and Amy (Mary Elizabeth Ellis) are the high-passion, high-drama couple who bring out the best and worst in each other. Lastly Rex (Hayes MacArthur) and Leigh (Olivia Munn) who are the “perfect couple” in the show.

“Perfect Couples” is created by Jon Pollack (“30 Rock”) and Scott Silveri (“Friends”), who also serve as executive producers with Andy Ackerman (“Seinfeld”), who also directed the pilot and the finale.

This show premiered as a mid-season replacement for NBC and it is by far the best new comedy on television.  Movie Mikes has had chance to chat with each of the cast from this show in our most exclusive interview series to date.  If you haven’t checked out this show yet, please give it a chance…with every episode this show gets better and better and since every viewer counts.
