If you are a fan of The Rolling Stones, then you already know   and love “Some Girls – Live in Texas” from ’78.  It is one of the best live shows from the band. This release is getting the rare vinyl treatment thanks to Eagle Rock Entertainment. The vinyl set contains 180g vinyls in a three-panel gatefold sleeve. The audio sounds truly amazing and really allows fans to go back in time and experience these songs the way that they were meant to be heard.  ’78 was also the highlight of The Stones and delivers some of their best tracks.

“Some Girls: Live In Texas” originally took place at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth, Texas on July 18, 1978. Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ron Wood, Charlie Watts, and Bill Wyman perform the tracks live just as good as they do on the album.  Even though this is a new vinyl release, it sounds like it pressed back in the day.  The sound is superb and really sharp.  It is polished but still holds the charm that makes vinyls still relevant. Some of the Stones classics tracks are showcased on these vinyls including, “Beast Of Burden”, “Brown Sugar” and “Jumpin Jack Flash”. If you are looking for the live recording of this concert, it was also recently released by Eagle Rock on DVD and Blu-ray. If you are a classic days Stones fans or someone just discovering them, this vinyl will make you an instant fan.

Book Review “Jaws: Memories from Martha’s Vineyard” (Expanded Edition)

Are you a “Jaws” fan? Are you looking for a great coffee table book? Then look no further “Jaws: Memories from Martha’s Vineyard”, is the ultimate coffee table book. This book is no joke and is guaranteed to satisfy every fan of the film. This 312 page book, takes you into the making of “Jaws”, which was shot on Martha’s Vineyard in Summer/Fall of 1974. This has to be one of the best behind-the-scenes experiences that have been published in book form to date. I was aware of this book coming years before it was released and during its early conceptual stages. Since then it has really expanded well beyond what it was originally suppose to be and this expanded 2nd edition only makes this book even better. Be sure to check the “Thank You” section on the last page to see a few names from the Media Mikes family, as well!

Synopsis: The filming of the blockbuster film Jaws is regarded as a landmark event in both the history of motion pictures and the quaint New England island of Martha’s Vineyard, where the geographic isolation necessitated the hiring of hundreds of locals to work as actors and laborers. Among this virtual army of hometown participants were numerous professional and amateur photographers, each with full access to the production’s inner workings—for the first time ever this compiles their behind-the-scenes photographs and stories into a treasure trove of Jaws rarities. Included are a foreword by director Steven Spielberg, interviews with production designer Joe Alves, screenwriter Carl Gottlieb, location casting director Shari Rhodes, and more, providing an unprecedented all-access pass to the creation of some of the most memorable and terrifying scenes in film history. This unique compendium is the first to focus on the production’s local participants, telling their stories at last.

The first edition of this great book was originally released in October of 2011. Titan Books is behind re-releasing this expanded second edition and did a great job (as usual!). I have to say I was skeptical about the expansion but this is actually quite decent consisting of an additional 16 pages of newly uncovered family photos and excerpts from the community that participated in the making of Jaws whether they were extras, stage hands or just watching bystanders.   After the initial release for this book, I am surprised that their isn’t more of a push for this edition, especially since there is a bunch of new pages and Universal’s just released ” Jaws” on Blu-ray this summer.  As a killer “Jaws” fan myself, I have to say that this is must even if you have the first edition of “Jaws: Memories from Martha’s Vineyard”.  You will not regard your purchase for sure, I mean especially if you have more than one coffee table to fill.

Blu-ray Review “The Santa Clause: The 3-Movie Collection”

When it comes to Christmas, there is no better film to watch than “The Santa Clause”.  Tim Allen is nothing short of brilliant in the role and it is easily one of my favorite holiday films ever. This 3-movie collection includes all the films in this series, “The Santa Clause”, “The Santa Clause 2” and “The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause”.  This is the first time that “The Santa Clause” and “The Santa Clause 2” (also celebrating its 10th Anniversary) have ever been released on Blu-ray and Disney has done them up right.

It is really hard to compare to the first film since it is such a classic.  But the sequels are still fun, silly and successfully do their job of delivering some Christmas cheer. The name Scott Calvin and Santa Clause will forever be associated with the holiday season. Let’s also not forgot “Topo Gigio”. Anyone who is tired of seeing these films in fake HD on ABC Family, can now enjoy them for the first time in full HD (except “Santa Clause 3”, which was released back in 2007). This is a real treat for anyone looking to get some holiday cheer.

Official Synopsis: Christmas gets a little nuttier when Scott Calvin (Allen) unknowingly inherits the role of the legendary St. Nick. His ordinary life snowballs into a hysterical series of outrageous events as he fills out his Santa suit, meets the future Mrs. Claus (Elizabeth Mitchell, Lost), and faces his ultimate test against the mischievous Jack Frost (Martin Short, Three Amigos!).

Let’s talk about the packaging now for Disney’s three-disc box set.  They are basically three individual releases, which are housed with a nice slipcase.  All three films looks great in their 1080p transfers and are presented in their 1.85:1 original aspect ratio with 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio tracks. “The Santa Clause” shows its age a little but still looks very sharp for its first time in HD.

Since each film has its own disc, each film comes with its own set for special features.  If you are looking massive extras in the first film, you will not find them here.  But “The Santa Clause” includes two great featurettes, including “So You Wanna Be An Elf?” and “Making Santa Snacks With Wolfgang”. Lastly there is also a short film “The Night Before Christmas”. I was hoping for a little more love hear but who knows 2014 is the film’s 20th anniversary, so maybe they will do it up again.

“The Santa Clause 2” packs a bit of goodies than the first film on Blu-ray.  First up, we have a decent commentary track from the director Michael Lembeck.  There are three behind-the-scenes featurettes included are “Inside The North Pole With Curtis”, “Director’s Tour Of Elfsberg” and “True Confessions of The Legendary Figures”. All of them dive into the production, with some good cast/crew interviews.  Lastly there are seven deleted scenes and a gag reel included.

The most special features comes from the latest in the series, “The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause”.  There is another commentary track from director Michael Lembeck.  There are three behind-the-scenes featurettes including “Creating Movie Magic: Visual Effects Secrets”, “Jack Frost & Mrs. Claus: A Very Different Look”, “The New Comedians: On The Set with Tim and Marty”.  There is a great karoke sing-along called “Christmas Carol-oke: Sing Your Favorite Songs of The Season”.  “Deck The Halls: Virtual Holiday Decorator” is a fun interactive feature. There is an alternate opening and gag real including, as well as the music video for “Greatest Time Of Year” by Aly & AJ.

Blu-ray Review “Rock of Ages: Extended Edition”

When it comes to Broadway plays being converted into feature films, it is hit or miss.  “Rock of Ages” is an amazing play that translates into a good movie with great music.  This film features the amazing musical hits of Def Leppard, Foreigner, Journey, Poison, REO Speedwagon, Twisted Sister and more.  The movie gets lost a little in the music, which is a good thing. This release features the extended edition of the film, which features over 13 additional minutes of more songs, more dancing and more laughs.  I really enjoyed the extended cut much more, which is rare in a release. Director Adam Shankman knows how to correctly turn a stage play into a feature-film, like he did with “Hairspray”.   Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Catherine Zeta-Jones are great but for me personally Alec Baldwin and Tom Cruise really steal the show. Must watch for fans of great 80’s music, you will easily find yourself air-guitaring and singing along.

Warner delivers a fantastic Blu-ray presentation.  The 1080p video transfer really looks perfect and showcases the film’s fantastic set designs.  Since music in the film is very important, the DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 really gets a chance to shine and really belt out the hits.  The special features are equally as good as the film itself.  “Rock of Ages: Legends of the Sunset Strip Hosted by Bret Michaels” let’s you hear from the musicians like Def Leppard, Poison, Whitesnake, Foreigner, Twisted Sister, and more as they chat about the good ‘ole days. “The Stories We Sing” gives the behind the scenes stories on our favorite rock anthems of the 80’s. “Defining a Decade” features the cast/crew as they show us how they created the 80’s.  There is a music featurettes for “Any Way You Want”. Lastly there is a look into the “Rock of Ages” premiere with “Def Leppard – LIVE!”.

Premise: “Rock of Ages” tells the story of small town girl Sherrie and city boy Drew, who meet on the Sunset Strip while pursuing their Hollywood dreams. Their rock ‘n’ roll romance is told through the heart-pounding hits of Def Leppard, Joan Jett, Journey, Foreigner, Bon Jovi, Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison, Whitesnake, and more.

Blu-ray Review “Little Shop of Horrors: The Director’s Cut + Theatrical”

“Little Shop of Horrors” is one of my favorite musical-comedy movies of all-time. This 1986 film is an adaptation of Howard Ashman and Alan Menken’s popular off-Broadway musical – which was also taken off from Roger Corman’s 1960 cult classic.  Warner Brothers is finally releasing this film on high def Blu-ray and are include two digitally remastered versions of the film on one disc – the theatrical edition and a director’s cut.  The director’s cut is the real draw here since it features the restored twenty-minute alternate ending.  Warner has restored and digitally remastered the ending in full color, which is a big deal if you are a fan of this film.  This is the first time that this has be available since it was only available prior in B&W. The release also comes packaged in a collectible forty-page digibook with some great content, including film trivia, actor and director bios and more.

Warner’s had taken the time to restore both versions of the film and they looks as good as ever. The 1080p transfers look really great, it is not a 4K restore but it is still very impressive. The music in the film is very important, the DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track is perfect.  You will find yourself blasting out your surround system and singing a-long. Speaking of that, I would have liked to seen a sing a-long track for those, who don’t know all the words.  There is an commentary track from Frank Oz on the theatrical version of the film. “Frank Oz and Little Shop of Horrors: The Director’s Cut,” is an introduction by Frank Oz with Richard Conway about the new feature. “A Story of Little Shop of Horrors”  is a fun and sharp behind-the-scenes documentary.  There are also a few outtakes and deleted scenes with optional commentary from Frank Oz, which are worth checking out also. Lastly, there are two theatrical trailers included.

Premise: A skid-row florist’s “mean green mother” of a monster plant is the center of “the looniest, nuttiest, most outrageous movie musical comedy in years” (Jeffrey Lyons, Sneak Preview). Rick Moranis, Steve Martin, Ellen Green, Billy Murray and other comedy greats star. “Little Shop of Horrors”, nominated for two Academy Awards® in 1986, including Best Music, Original Song and Best Effects, Visual Effects, debuts on Blu-ray Disc™ October 9, 2012 from Warner Home Video. The Blu-ray debut of the film, directed by the inimitable Frank Oz (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Dark Crystal, The Muppets Take Manhattan), includes two hi-def versions of the cult classic: the one shown in theaters and The Director’s Cut, featuring a newly restored 20-minute ending from the director’s first cut, now in color, that fans have been waiting to see.

Blu-ray Review “The Princess Bride: 25th Anniversary Edition”

Has it really been 25 years since “The Princess Bride” came out…simply inconceivable! I remember the first time that I watching this film, I was immediately in love.  This is just one of those films that you can watch over and over and it doesn’t get old. The romance.  The comedy. Good vs. Evil. This film really has everything.  It is one of Rob Reiner’s best pictures. This 25th Anniversary Blu-ray isn’t the first time this film was released on the format, since it was released back in 2009 as well.  If you own the previous version, then you should be good.  But hardcore fans are going to have to double-dip for the amazing new retrospective documentary included in the extras.  Get ready to experience this film again its all its comedy and romantic glory.

Fox’s official synopsis: “Scale the cliffs of insanity, battle rodents of unusual size, face torture in the pit of despair, and join Princess Buttercup (Wright) and Westley (Elwes) on their spell-binding journey to find true love…A classic fairy tale complete with heroes, villains, trickery, mockery, and death-defying miracles, The Princess Bride captured audiences young and old with its…memorable dialogue, enchanting story line, and bewitching characters…[and it features] a cast that includes Mandy Patinkin (Homeland), Andre the Giant (Conan the Destroyer), Chris Sarandon (Dog Day Afternoon), Wallace Shawn (Vanya on 42nd Street), Christopher Guest (This is Spinal Tap), Peter Falk (Wings of Desire), Carol Kane (Scrooged), and Billy Crystal (City Slickers).”

Fox delivers a wonderful Blu-ray release. The 1080p transfer looks glorious presented in its 1.85:1 original aspect ratio alongside a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track, which is easily as impressive. The star of this 25th anniversary is a really neat all-new, two-part retrospective documentary called “True Love: The Princess Bride Phenomenon”. It is worth the purchase alone for the Blu-ray and brings back all the cast to reflect on the film. There are two audio commentaries, the first with director Rob Reiner and also screenwriter William Goldman. There are four fantastic behind-the-scenes featurettes including “As You Wish: The Story of The Princess Bride”, “The Princess Bride: The Untold Tales”, “The Art of Fencing”, “Fairy Tales and Folklore”, “Miraculous Makeup”, “The Dread Pirate Roberts: Greatest Pirate of the Seven Seas” and “Love is Like a Storybook”. This covers just about everything you want to know about the production. Cary Elwes’ video diary is fun look behind-the-camera with the star. Lastly there is the original theatrical trailer and a few easter eggs, so keep an eye out.

Blu-ray Review “A League of Their Own: 20th Anniversary”

First, let me admit that I am not a big fan of sports films at all.  But there is something about “A League of Their Own” that stands out among the rest. The cast is so phenomenal and their performances are some emotional…and funny as well.  This film has a great blend of comedy and drama. This year “A League of Their Own” is celebrating it’s 20th Anniversary and Sony is given this film a nice treatment on Blu-ray. They also timed it just right releasing– just one week before the 2012 World Series of Baseball.  If you are looking for a chance to revisit this film in HD, just a reminder though “There is no crying in baseball”.

Synopsis: Tom Hanks, Geena Davis and Madonna star in this major league comedy from the team that brought you Big and City Slickers. Hanks stars as Jimmy Dugan, a washed-up ballplayer whose big league days are over. Hired to coach in the All-American Girls Baseball League of 1943 – while the male pros are at war – Dugan finds himself drawn back into the game by the hearts and heroics of his all-girl team. Teammates Madonna, Lori Petty and Rosie O’Donnell round out this all-star roster, with Jon Lovitz adding a scene-stealing cameo

Sony delivered a home run with its Blu-ray presentation.  The video looks sharp and very clear with its 1080p transfer and in its 2.39:1 original aspect ratio.  The film doesn’t look 20 years old as well,  still hard to believe it has been that long.  The DTS-HD Master Audio track sounds amazing as well with the sports scenes and dialogue.  The special features included are impressive as well.  There is a fun commentary with Penny Marshall, Lori Petty, Megan Cavanagh, and Tracy Reiner.  There are fifteen deleted scenes with optional video introductions with Director Penny Marshall. There is an exclusive documentary “called “Nine Memorable Innings”, which  features interviews with the cast and filmmakers. Lastly, there is the music video for Madonna’’s “This Used to Be My Playground” (still have the single cassette).

DVD Review “Snorks: The Complete First Season”

Growing up for me it was either “The Smurfs” or “Snorks” all the time. Personally as a kid, I thought of the “Snorks” to be “The Smurfs” but underwater. They were a bit of a rip-off but still a lot of fun. Anyone who watched Saturday morning cartoons in the 80’s should know and love this show. And now, thanks to Warner Archive, I am able to share series with my own daughter (if they are not on Boomerang TV). I hope that Warner Archive is planning on releasing the other seasons and when they do…keep us in mind. This was a really treat to travel back under the water to get to hang with these colorful characters.

This title has not been remastered or restored but has been made from the best-quality video master currently available. Overall, it looks quite decent. The colors could have used a little bit of a revive but still it is just great to see these episodes again. It is presented within its original aspect ratio of 4×3 full frame – 1.33:1. The audio track included is the typical Dolby Mono track. I see myself re-watching these episodes quite often and look forward to other great shows getting to see the light of day thanks to Warner Archive.

In their steam-powered city carved out of coral, these multi-colored denizens of the deep have whale-sized hearts and are up for any challenge – or party – the ocean might send their way. So come along with Allstar, Casey, Daffney, Dimmy, Junior and Tooter as they explore life within – and sometimes beyond – the limits!

DVD Review “The First Christmas: The Story of the First Christmas Snow”

Even though it is not Halloween yet, I am never going to turn down watching a Christmas film. In fact, I like to watch Christmas films all year long, it puts you in a certain mood that you get are “suppose” to be in once a year. “The First Christmas: The Story of the First Christmas Snow” is made from the legendary duo Rankin/Bass (“Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”). The film is so sweet and really delivers a wonderful message. The music/songs in the film are also so memorable and leave you humming the rest of the day. If it wasn’t good enough, we get the wonderful voice and narration from Angela Lansbury. Must purchase for all fans of Rankin/Bass.

The only issue I have of this film is the idea that it is being called a deluxe edition. There is only one special feature called “Celebrate and Create: Holiday Cards That Kids Can Make”. It is cute for kids but doesn’t warrant the title of deluxe. Nonetheless, the fully remastered transfer of this film does look very nice and delivers. I would have like to see this put out on Blu-ray though, like a few recent other Rankin/Bass releases. I mean these films are never going to look perfect with there age and their type of animation. I am looking forward to sharing this film with my daughter for many years to come making it a must-watch each holiday season!

“Strangers on a Train” has always been one of my favorite Hitchcock pictures. It really shows him at his pure best. I know, I know “Psycho” is amazing but this is a completely different type of picture. It literally keeps you on the edge of your chair from once the plot to “exchange” murders begins on that train. Warner Brothers delivers a really fantastic 1080p transfer within it’s aspect ratio of 1.36:1. The black and white film looks so crisp and sharp. The audio is also near-perfect with its DTS-HD Master Audio Mono track. Dimitri Tiomkin’s score really secures your seat placement on your couch.  There are two different cuts of this film on the Blu-ray. There is the final release version, which we all know and love and then there is the preview version which runs about two minutes longer and features some alternate takes. They are subtle changes but if you are a hardcore fan of Hitchcock, you are going to want both versions.

The special features are ported from previous DVD releases but still great.  There is a jam-packed commentary track with Alfred Hitchcock, Peter Bogdanovich, Joseph Stefano, Patricia Hitchcock O’Connell and about fifteen others who pop in. Obviously, it is edited together and done very well. Next up with five behind-the-scene featurettes, including “Strangers on a Train: A Hitchcock Classic”, which is a nice chat with Peter Bogdanovich and a few others about film. “Strangers on a Train: The Victim’s P.O.V.” looks into the shot uses for Laura Elliot in the film (one of my favorite shots). “Strangers on a Train: An Appreciation by M. Night Shyamalan” is the “The Sixth Sense” director’s tribute to Hitchcock.  “The Hitchcocks on Hitch” is a chat with both Hitchcock’s daughter and granddaughter. “Alfred Hitchcock’s Historical Meeting” is a short extra with the director meeting up with actors made up as historical characters. Lastly there is the theatrical trailer included.

Premise: Before anyone though of “throwing Momma from the train,” the idea of a double “crisscross” murder has already been hatched. Or “hitched,” as in Alfred Hitchcock’s Strangers on a Train”. Tennis star Guy Hanies (Farley Granger) half-jokingly muses about killing his wife with a stranger he meets on a train, unhinged playboy Bruno Anthony (Robert Walker), who’d prefer his father be deceased. In theory, each could murder the other’s victim. Crisscross. No motive. No clues. No problem…except: Bruno takes the idea seriously, with deadly consequences.

3D Blu-ray Review “Alfred Hitchcock’s Dial M for Murder 3D”

When I found out that Hitchcock’s “Dial M for Murder” was being released on 3D Blu-ray, I was thrilled to see this picture as it was original intended to be seen.  The film itself is still great, though the 3D presentation is not as impressive.  I feel like Hitchcock didn’t really embrace the format and didn’t use it to it’s fullest.  I recently saw “Creature from the Black Lagoon” on 3D Blu-ray and let me tell you that blew me away.  That film really took advantage of the 3D format.  Overall, it is still great to have the film as it was seen in the theaters, even if the 3D isn’t perfect. Hardcore fans of Hitchcock, will enjoy this opportunity for sure.

Warner Brothers delivers both the  2D and 3D version of this film with both transfers presented in 1.78 aspect ratio. The colors are sharp and look nice on Blu-ray, though there are a few scenes that is some noticeable fuzz.  The audio sounds great with its DTS-HD Master Audio Mono track.  This works really well its Dimitri Tiomkin’s score and makes it comes it life.  The special features are also a let down, there is just one short SD feature called “Hitchcock and Dial M”, which runs about 20 minutes. Lastly there is also a theatrical trailer included for this release.

Synopsis: When American writer Mark Halliday visits the very married Margot Wendice in London, he unknowingly sets off a chain of blackmail and murder. After sensing Margot’s affections for Halliday, her husband, Tony Wendice, fears divorce and disinheritance, and plots her death. Knowing former school chum Captain Lesgate is involved in illegal activities, Tony blackmails him into conspiring to kill Margot. When she kills Lesgate in self-defense, Tony implicates her as being guilty of premeditated murder. Halliday must out-stratagize Tony to save Margot’s live.

Blu-ray Review “Greystone Park”

“Greystone Park” is directed by Sean Stone, who is the son of well-known director Oliver Stone.  The film is based on true events and falls under the found footage genre.  It is also told with Sean playing himself, even gets a cameo from his father.  This is a unique approach for the genre and mixes not only paranormal activities (sorry) but also the occult. Once the film gets started, there are quite a few good jumps. The ending is also quite the shocker as well. I did Sean high points on his first narrative feature and I am sure we will be hearing from him. I mean the guy has learned from one of the best directors in Hollywood. Perfect film for the Halloween season!

Official Synopsis: Based on true events, the film follows three aspiring filmmakers trying to document unexplainable events in an abandoned insane asylum known as Greystone Park. Urban legend has it that anyone who ventures into the forsaken hospital will suffer the consequences and face their own horrors. The trio stumble across a mysterious realm of escaped patients, ghosts and demonic shadows, as they try to uncover the truth behind Greystone Park.

This release from Arc Entertainment comes in a combo pack with both Blu-ray and DVD discs included for the film. This is a film that you really don’t need on high-def Blu-ray though since it is all shot on handheld camera. Nonetheless, it still looks good and sounds good as well with its nice DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track. The special features are great as well and a nice companion to the film. There a commentary track with Sean Stone, Alexander Wraith and Antonella Lentini. There is a never-before-seen ending including, but I still prefer the original. “Sean Stone’s Ghost Stories: The Making of Greystone Park” goes into the production and how it was made. Lastly, there is a feature called “The Locations of Greystone Park”, which looks into where this film was shot.

I have watched “Mad Men” on and off since the first season. Season five is probably the best of the most recent seasons. It comes packed with all the drama, lust, deception and…of course adultery. Jon Hamm is brillant in this series but I am not a big fan of the emotionless January Jones. Of course Christina Hendricks has here favorable traits as well. The series also shows no signs of slowing down since it just received seventeen nominations for the 2012 Emmy Awards Ceremony.  This should keep you busy till season six returns in mid 2013.

Lionsgate has delivered a nice three-disc Blu-ray set, which presents all thirteen episodes from season five.  They are presented in its original 1.78:1 broadcast aspect ratio with 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio tracks.  The video also looks clear and sharp. From watching this show on television where the picture is only 720p and worse if you Tivo it, it is a real upgrade and makes the period just look so much sharper.

The special features are very impressive as well. There is an amazing 26 commentary tracks with Matthew Weiner and the cast and crew. “Mad Men Say the Darndest Things” look at the best one-liners from the series. “The Uniform Time Act of 1966” is a pictorial timeline that explores the history of Daylight Savings Time. “What Shall I Love If Not the Enigma?” is a look into the life and work of metaphysical artist Giorgio de Chirico. “The Party of the Century” features author Deborah Davis and legendary bandleader Peter Duchin, as we get a glimpse inside Truman Capote’s infamous Black & White Masquerade Ball. “Scoring Mad Men: Inside a Session” is a feature on composer David Carbonarra, orchestrator Geoff Stradling and sound engineer Jim Hill as they hit the recording studio. “Newsweek Magazine Digital Gallery” is collection of Newsweek Magazine covers with news stories from around the world in 1966.

I am a child of the 80’s and I grew up watching “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe”. So you could film came out in 1987, that I was one happy five-year old. Well as an adult, I have realized that this film isn’t that great after all. I am still a big fan of Dolph Lundgren even though he wasn’t the best He-Man. I mean come on “Adam” use your damn sword already. It is not surprised that this film was a critical and box office disappointment. Still this film is still fun to watch (and make fun of). It helps that that it looks nice on Blu-ray well, good job Warner Brothers! Be sure to watch through the credits! I am still waiting for Skeletor to return in a better sequel.

Warner delivered a nice Blu-ray release for this film celebrating its 25th Anniversary.  It’s  1080p transfer does a good job of showcasing this film’s action and special effects.  The release also includes the original audio track, DTS-HD MA 2.0.  It works well with the action but nothing spectacular that makes you stand up and scream “I have the power!”. Ok, so the for quarter century anniversary, I was hoping for a lot more in the special features department. There is a commentary track with Director Gary Goddard. It is cool to hear his comments on the film but overall is nothing special. Lastly there is a (laughable) theatrical trailer. I won’t why this film tanked?

Synopsis: Planet Eternia and the Castle of Greyskull are under threat from the evil Skeletor who wants to take over the planet. A group of freedom fighters, led by the heroic He-Man are accidentally transported to Earth by a mysterious Cosmic Key which holds the power to make Skeletor all-powerful. Once on Earth, He-Man joins alliances with two teenagers as they attempt to find the key and return home.

DVD Review “The Sorcerers”

Boris Karloff was known best for playing the classic horror monster “The Mummy”. “The Sorcerers” was done later in his career, though is still a good film.  He gives a great performance as Professor Marcus Monserret.  I have to admit, this was the first time that I had seen this film and I am very glad I did. If you are looking for a great way to companion the recent release of “The Mummy” on Blu-ray, then this would be your answer.

Warner Archive is yet again behind this release, which is the first time this film has been put out on DVD. This title has not been remastered or restored but has been made from the best-quality video master currently available. It looks sharp for a film that is almost 50 years old. It is presented within its original aspect ratio of 16X9 full frame. The audio track included is the typical Dolby Mono track. Overall I probably do not see myself watching this film again but with Halloween right around the corner, it will definitely get you ready.

Boris Karloff is at his mesmerizing best in this hypnotic chiller costarring Catherine Lacey (The Lady Vanishes) and directed by Michael Reeves (Witchfinder General). A disgraced hypnotist, Professor Marcus Monserret (Karloff) is about to have the last laugh. Inventing a machine that can control the minds of others, he lures Mike Roscoe (Ian Ogilvy) to his dingy flat to take part in a grand experiment. Discovering he can experience Mike’s sensations as well as his actions, Monserret envisions his device as a boon to science. His maniacal wife (Lacey), however, embittered by years of poverty, soon overpowers her husband and proceeds to use Mike for her own selfish gain.
