“Hello, Wilbur!” I remember watching “Mister Ed” as as kid and being amazed at the fact that horse was moving it lips. Of course, of course this is before the whole peanut butter reveal for me. This show is still one of my all-time favorite sitcoms. This is a true television classic and still holds up today to be very funny. Be honest and tell me that you can hear this theme song and continue to whistle it the rest of the day! “Mister Ed: The Complete Series” delivers us all six seasons of the show within its 143 episodes. If you are a fan of this series, this is the set to get…and just in time for the holidays.

Official Premise: Architect Wilbur Post (Alan Young, Duck Tales) and his wife Carol (Connie Hines) have settled into a beautiful new home, complete with a barn in the backyard…and a very unique tenant. Wilbur finds that the former owner has left his horse behind. He soon discovers that this is no ordinary horse, as the eloquent Mr. Ed can talk, but only to Wilbur! The anxious architect and the pontificating palomino soon become the best of friends, leading to all sorts of comedic misadventures.

What makes this release important is that within this 22-DVD box set, this includes all Season one episodes in their original full-length for the first time and Season 6 on DVD, which has previously never been released, along with a slate of several bonus features. This release only includes a nice collection of bonus features including interviews with stars Alan Young and Connie Hines, as well as Audio Interviews with Alan Young and Connie Hines from Shokus Internet Radio’s Stu’s Show. There is also an audio commentary track on the pilot episode with Alan Young and Connie Hines. Lastly there is a Mister Ed U.S. Bonds Promo anad some Studebaker Car Commercials.

Dating back to 1995, I remember when I saw that Clive Barker had a new film coming out and just new I had to see it. At the time, I was already in love with his work like “Nightbreed” and “Hellraiser”. “Lord of Illusions” shortly became no different. This film was a nice mix of noir, sci-fi and horror. Plus honestly, who doesn’t love Sam Beckett himself, Scott Bakula kicking ass and taking names. Scream Factory, thankfully, is behind this release and they are pulling out all the cards here. They have not only one but two cuts of the film. Disc one is the Theatrical Cut of the film, while disc two feayures an all NEW high definition transfer of Clive Barker’s Director’s Cut of the film making this a must own for any fan of the film.

Official Premise: From best-selling author and celebrated director Clive Barker comes a supernatural thriller that rips apart the boundaries between sanity and madness, and between the art of illusion and the terrifying forces of magic. Scott Bakula “(“Quantum Leap”) portrays Harry D’Amour, a private detective visiting Los Angeles on a routine investigation. Harry gets more than he bargains for when he encounters Philip Swan (Kevin J. O Connor, “The Mummy”), a performer whose amazing illusions captivate the world. But are they really illusions? Harry isn’t so sure as he is thrust into a nightmare of murder, deception and terrifying assaults from the dark beyond. Famke Janssen (“X-Men”, “Hemlock Grove”) and Daniel von Bargen (“Super Troopers”) also star.

This Collector’s Edition release features a solid Blu-ray presentation. The 1080p transfer looks great, especially on the director’s cut. The DTS-HD Master Audio track also works perfectly with the amazing score. The special features are great as well. There is a commentary track from director Clive Barker. There is a featurette “A Gathering of Magic”, which includes original behind the scenes footage. There is more unseen and rare behind the scenes footage into “Illusion of Reality”, which includes vintage interviews looking into the making of the film. There is a NEW interview with Storyboard Artist Martin Mercer, which is a must watch. Lastly there are some deleted scenes with Clive Barker giving commentary and also a Photo Gallery.

“Tales From the Crypt” comics are one of the main reasons, I got into horror films when I was a kid. This 1972 adaption from the comics directed by Freddie Francis (The Creeping Flesh) was a great collection of horror films on film. It boasted a great cast including Joan Collins (Empire Of The Ants), Peter Cushing (Horror Of Dracula), Patrick Magee (A Clockwork Orange) and Sir Ralph Richardson (Rollerball). I remember the first time I saw this film by accident honestly since I thought it was a release from the HBO series and I am so glad that I did. Still holds up today for sure!

“Tales From The Crypt” Official Premise: When five unwary travelers with dark hearts stumble into a series of catacombs, they find themselves in a cavern with no way out. But the horror’s only just begun as a mysterious figure appears to reveal to each person the shocking events that will lead to their well-deserved, untimely (and unavoidable) demise. Tales From The Crypt is the original, gets-right-under-your-skin creepfest!

“Vault Of Horror” is a solid follow-up to “Tales From The Crypt” and is real draw in this release because it is available uncut for the first time on home video! It also packs a solid cast including Tom Baker (Doctor Who), Denholm Elliott (Raiders Of The Lost Ark), Curt Jurgens (The Mephisto Waltz) and Michael Craig (Mysterious Island). Like “Creepshow 2” was the “Creepshow”, it doesn’t top the first but this is a another great collection of classic horror stories, even though a little more cookie cutter.

“Vault Of Horror” Official Premise: Five unsuspecting hotel guests step into an elevator, which leads them into an underground vault. Trapped with no way out, each guest shares a gruesome tale of an encounter with death. But as the stories unfold, the men begin to suspect that their presence in the vault is no coincidence, and that the only way out…is death.

Scream Factory is behind this double feature release and it is a must for any horror fan that loves anthology films. Two great 70’s British horror films for the price of one. The 1080p transfers on both films are good. They are not outstanding but for the age of these films, the fact that they haven’t been fully restored, they look good. Same goes for the DTS-HD Master Audio Mono tracks, which work well with the films scores. There are no special features included either but if you consider “Vault of Horror” as a bonus film, they are in good shape.

“Sailor Moon: Season 1 Part 1” is first volume of the classic 1992-97 anime. This set includes episodes 1-23 as well as an 88-page full-color premium booklet. This is only the beginning of this series as there should be at least nine additional sets until the complete 200-episode series has been released. This show was one of my wife’s favorite, so she was excited to have it on Blu-ray…unfortunately the transfers are a quite a bit of a mess and it is during going to upset many fans.

Synopsis: Usagi Tsukino is a cheerful 14-year-old schoolgirl who often finds herself in unwanted trouble. One day, she saves a talking cat named Luna from some mean kids, and her life is changed forever. Luna gives Usagi a magic brooch that transforms her into Sailor Moon, defender of love and justice! Now Usagi must work with Luna to find the other Sailor Guardians and the Moon Princess, whose Legendary Silver Crystal is Earth’s only hope against the dark forces of the evil Queen Beryl.

According to Viz, in order create the Sailor Moon Blu-rays they used the masters that used to create the 2009 Japanese DVD sets. They are said to be original, uncropped 4:3 aspect ratio, uncut remastered episodes, which is all good but really wasn’t impressed at all. Hopefully they have better plans for the rest of the episodes otherwise after this fans are not going to buy this. There is ghosting throughout. The item is over-sharpened and there is a lot of lost detail, which is a shame.

There are several audio options, including a complete English dub with a new voice cast, as well as the Japanese DTS-HD Master Audio tracks with English subtitles. The special features aren’t anything special either besides the Behind the Scenes: Dub Recording featurette. Other than that there is the Announcement Panel & Fan Reactions, Official Announcement Trailer, Art Galleries and a Clean Opening and Ending included here.

You got to admit, making “21 Jump Street” with Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum was definitely a risk…but it paid off soooo well. The first film is a blast all around but surprisingly the sequel is even better than the first. Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum are a great team and really play off each other very well. It is a really well-balanced action/comedy/buddy flick! Non-stop action and laughs. Directors Phil Lord & Christopher Miller (“21 Jump Street”, “The Lego Movie”) strike gold again here. My only question: when is “23 Jump Street” coming out?

Official Premise: After making their way through high school (twice), big changes are in store for officers Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) when they go deep undercover at a local college. But when Jenko meets a kindred spirit on the football team, and Schmidt infiltrates the bohemian art major scene, they begin to question their partnership. Now they don’t have to just crack the case – they have to figure out if they can have a mature relationship.

No idea why a solo DVD is even released anymore when most films come in a combo pack. The special features are 10x better on the Blu-ray release for this film. We get an abridged version here. There is an audio commentary with the directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller and stars Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, which is an absolutely blast. “The Perfect Couple of Directors” takes a look at the directing duo. “Line-O-Ramas” are a bunch of funny sequences from the film and lastly there are 22 deleted & extended scenes…on the Blu-ray. We get a faction of that here with optional directors’ commentary.

Na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na BATMAAAN!!! I didn’t grow up with the 60’s “Batman” but I loved watching the series in repeats. This show was the king of campy jokes. Also dating back to the late 80’s, I was completely obsessed with anything “Batman”, thanks to Tim Burton’s 1989 feature. So this show was a nice complement to the darker film. Thanks to Warner Home Video, “Batman: The Complete Television Series” contains all three classic seasons scanning 120 original broadcast episodes, which are presented uncut and completely remastered. A must have for any “Batman” fan!

This show boosted career of Adam West (as Batman) and Burt Ward (as Robin)…or at least Adam West. This series also features some fantastic guest stars and cameos including including Julie Newmar, Cesar Romero, Frank Gorshin, Liberace, Vincent Price, Burgess Meredith, Bruce Lee, Art Carney, Milton Berle, Sammy Davis Jr., Dick Clark, the Green Hornet and Kato, and Bill Dana as José Jimenez.

This POW-erful numbered limited-edition collection includes the 120 episodes scanned over 13 Blu-rays along with an Ultraviolet Digital HD copy of the series. These episodes looks absolutely stunning. For a show dating back to the 60’s, you would never guess that this was nearly 50 years old. The 1080p transfer for these episodes, remastered in high-definition, look amazing for this series. This show was always very colorful and the colors here are extremely vibrant and crisp.

There are more than three hours of never-before-seen bonus content including interviews with both Adam West (as Batman) and Burt Ward (as Robin). “Hanging with Batman” is what it says just spending some time chatting with Adam West. “Holy Memorabilia Batman!” focuses on the world of collectibles for the series. “Batmania Born!” talks about building the series and the art and design behind it. “Bats of the Round Table” is a roundtable candid conversation with Adam West and his friends.

“Inventing Batman in the words of Adam West” features West discusses his script notes on episodes 1 & 2 on bringing Batman to life. “Na Na Na Batman!” feature Hollywood favorites stars and producers rehashing their favorite Batman memories. All year, I was waiting for this film to come out in theaters. I was hoping for the next big thing for tornadoes since “Twister” but I was left very disappointed. This film has literally no plot, besides a tornado hit this town. The characters have little to no appeal to the audience. The visual effects though are outstanding for sure. I wish they didn’t take the handheld camera approach because the tornado shots seemed to be down-scaled being only able to be shown like that. Big pass here!

Official Premise: In the span of a single day, the town of Silverton is ravaged by an unprecedented onslaught of tornadoes. The entire town is at the mercy of the erratic and deadly cyclones, even as storm trackers predict the worst is yet to come. Most people seek shelter, while others run towards the vortex, testing how far a storm chaser will go for that once-in-a-lifetime shot.

“Into the Storm” stars Richard Armitage, Sarah Wayne Callies (TV’s “The Walking Dead”), Matt Walsh (“Ted”), Alycia Debnam-Carey (“The Devil’s Hand”), Arlen Escarpeta (“Final Destination 5”), Max Deacon (“TV’s Hatfields & McCoys”), Nathan Kress (TV’s “iCarly”), Jeremy Sumpter (“Soul Surfer,” TV’s “Friday Night Lights”), Kyle Davis (“Friday the 13th”) and Jon Reep (“Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay”).

The 1080p transfer is impressive despite my taste for the film. I think this would have benefited from a 3D presentation for sure. The DTS-Master Audio 5.1 track is also very impressive. So aside from the film itself, this Blu-ray is a home-run. The special features are decent including three featurettes. “Into the Storm: Tornado Files” features famed storm-chaser Reed Timmer talking about scientific conditions behind these tornadoes. “Titus: The Ultimate Storm-Chasing Vehicle” talks about how they built the storm-chaser. “Fake Storms: Real Conditions” focuses on physical effects created in the film.

When you think about Batman, you might be also not about him being powerful and moving but after watching this documentary, I do not think I will ever think about him in the same way. This film, funded by more than 1,100 people from around the world, shows how the characters has proven to be an inspiration to millions of people facing disease, disability or hardship. “Legends of the Knight” follows encourages people to find your own courageous paths. We really see how important the character of Batman is to people. Very moving and definitely quite emotional.

Official Premise: Batman has always held a special place in the hearts of superhero fans. Orphaned at a young age, he is an emotionally intense mortal whose compassion and sense of justice have helped him rise to heroic heights. “Legends of the Knight” weaves together the uplifting true stories of individuals who have embraced their inner superhero, overcome devastating obstacles, and unselfishly given to their communities because of their love for the Caped Crusader.

This film was funded online by fans and is being released on DVD and Digital HD. The running time is just under 80 minutes but it is very effective. Be sure to have a tissue on hand since this one got me a few times. The special features included are a little light. I would have expected a little more perhaps some more extended interviews and possibly focus on the crowd funding. Included is a Charity Screenings featurette. There are just shy of 15 minutes of delete scenes included. Lastly there is a trailer included.

When you are Academy Award® winner James Cameron, after you make classics like “The Terminator”, “Titanic”, “Avatar”; what do you do next? Well, for Cameron he has been working with the “Deepsea Challenger”, a state-of-the-art deep-diving submersible designed to reach Earth’s lowest known point. This documentary focuses on his successful voyage from March of 2012 to Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench, which reaches a depth of over seven miles. If you love James Cameron and his under the sea adventures, this is both entertaining and educational…and of course in 3D.

Official Premise: As a boy, filmmaker James Cameron dreamed of a journey to the deepest part of the ocean. This film is the dramatic fulfillment of that dream. It chronicles Cameron’s solo dive to the depths of the Mariana Trench—nearly seven miles beneath the ocean’s surface—piloting a submersible he designed himself. The risks were astounding. The footage is breathtaking. “Deepsea Challenge 3D” is a celebration of science, courage, and extraordinary human aspiration.

Since it is James Cameron, I expected this to be in 3D. The 3D is definitely the best part of this release. Millennium is releasing this as a combo pack with a Blu-ray 3D + Blu-ray + DVD, so there are plenty of options here. If you can watch this in 3D, I would certainly recommend that for sure. The 1080p transfer is stunning with the underwater footage. It is framed at 1.78:1 aspect ratio and the film has extremely sharp image detail and vibrant colors. The audio is also impressive with an DTS-HD 5-1 Master Audio track.

In terms of special features, there is really not much included. There are two short featurettes included, which add to just over 5 minutes for both. The first is a look at the final dive before it happens and the second a post-dive wrap up. There is also a trailer included for the film. If you are looking for more, I would recommend the Special Collector’s Edition, which features a 36-Page book with imagery of production artwork, stills from filming, charts, depth measurement diagrams.

The idea for “Wicked, Wicked” is very interesting. It was presented in anamorphic “Duo-Vision” aka a fancy way to say split-screen today. I think the idea of watch the film from the eyes of the hunter and the hunted is a really neat idea. It is a mixture of horror, suspense and comedy thought, think this would have been much more effective if it kept it focused on the horror. Definitely shows it’s age but this is a still a fun time and worth checking out for sure on DVD.

Official Premise: To experience the grisly goings’on of Wicked. Wicked, your right eye has to know what your left eye is doing! Filmed in a split-screen process dubbed Duo-vision. this guilty pleasure follows a psycho electrician at an elegant California resort who prefers blondes,.,dismembered. It simultaneously follows, on the other half of the screen, the gorgeous, golden-haired guests who are unaware they’ll soon be checking out.

In order for Warner Archive to release this film on DVD, there are reports that it received an extensive two-year restoration. They are making it available as part of their Made-to-Order DVDs. It is presented in a 16×9 Letterbox with an original 2.40:1 aspect ratio and boasts a solid stereo soundtrack, which works well with the use of the organ music created for the 1925 silent classic “Phantom of the Opera”. The only special features included on this DVD is a trailer.

Having a two year old daughter, I have to admit that I watch quite a bit of “My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic”. She is completely obsessed with the show and its characters. As a “Star Trek: The Next Generation”) fan it was great to see cameos by John DeLancy (aka Q from “Star Trek: TNG”). The show is very colorful and features some really fun songs. This season was totally about 20% cooler than season 3. A fifth season is currently into the works for 2015.

Official Premise: Twilight Sparkle may be a princess now, but that doesn’t mean she can’t have fun! Join Twilight and her very best friends (Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Rarity and Spike) as they continue to have the absolute best adventures in all of Equestria!

This four-disc DVD set features all 26 episodes from the fourth season of “My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic”. I still waitch that this show was released on Blu-ray like the “Equestrian Girls” movies. There are also some decent bonus features included. There is a recording of the 2014 San Diego Comic Con Pony Panel, which is not really for the kiddies but definitely for the old Pony fans. There are also some Sing-Alongs from the season’s songs.

“Star Wars: The Clone Wars – The Lost Missions” consists of the sixth and final season of the Emmy Award-winning Warner/Cartoon Network animated series. The 13-episode season original aired exclusively on Netflix. Go figure, the show gets canceled right when it is at its peak and yet this is easily one of the best collection of episodes. I definitely have been enjoying “Star Wars Rebels” but “The Clone Wars” was getting to a good point in its story that it was getting darker and much deeper. It is sad to think that “The Clone Wars” is over but at least it went out with a good bang.

Official Premise: In these eagerly anticipated episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, some of the deepest mysteries of the conflict between the light and the dark sides of the Force are revealed. An intrepid clone trooper discovers a shocking secret, Anakin Skywalker’s closest relationship is tested to its limits, and what Master Yoda discovers while investigating the disappearance of a Jedi could forever change the balance of power in the galaxy.

This Blu-ray edition delivers these episodes with fantastic 1080p transfers. This show contains never really felt like a TV series, it always felt much larger to me. The colors are crisp and the animation is well done. The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround track really works with the non-stop epic action in this episodes. I would have loved to see a little bit more in terms of special features included here especially since it is the final season ever of “The Clone Wars”. What we get is a never before seen 16-minute documentary, which covers all six seasons. Seems a little short though to encompass the entire mass of the six seasons. There are also four additional story reels from “The Lost Missions” season, which are only available on this Blu-ray.

“Phineas and Ferb: Star Wars” is not the Disney animated series’ first crossover episode. The show also went head to head with Marvel superheros last summer. When it comes to “Star Wars”, I am interested despite the crossover. Honestly, my interest in “Phineas & Ferb” has decreased to almost nothing since 2007. They did do a great job with mashing up “Star Wars” universe. This DVD is called “Star Wars IV: A New Hope – Retold and ReFERBished”, so one might assume that this will not be the last crossover either. The music is very catchy, clever and just plain fun. This DVD also includes six bonus episodes and a Carbonite Perry keychain. Calling all “Star Wars” fans, this is the crossover that you are looking for!

I know that kids don’t care if their cartoons are released on DVD or Blu-ray but there are a lot of big kids that might. This would have been epic on Blu-ray with the action, the animation and the music. Besides, “Phineas & Ferb: Star Wars” special, there are six additional bonus episodes including Be”For Your Ice Only/Happy New Year!”; “Steampunx/It’s No Picnic”; “Terrifying Tri-State Trilogy Of Terror (Parts 1 And 2); “Doof 101/Father’s Day” and “Tales From The Resistance” (Parts 1 And 2). If you enjoy “Phineas and Ferb”, this is a must have. If you have never seen the show once yet love “Star Wars”, this will be a great way to introduce you to the very funny characters and see “Star Wars” retold and reFERBished.

“Beware the Batman” is a great but short-lived show that was a unique take on the world of Batman because it didn’t feature classic villains like The Joker, Penguin, Riddler, etc. This series focuses on new villains and went bigger with the villains. It is quite risky but I really dug it.I loved the CGI animated approach. The design was cool and the tone of the show really intrigued. “Beware the Batman: Dark Justice – Season 1, Part 2″ includes the remaining 13 episodes in the series and if love a different take on Batman, check it out!

Official Premise: Another night falls in Gotham City and the ever-vigilant Dark Knight watches over his city and its citizens. With the help of his ex-secret agent butler, Alfred, and sword-wielding assassin Katana, the Batman wages a tireless war against Gotham’s twisted criminal underworld. Ride along as Batman battles the evil machinations of Professor Pyg, Magpie, Mister Toad and criminal mastermind Anarky. It’s a crime-fighting collection of hidden clues, cool tech and detective thrills as Batman prowls in the shadows, ready to deliver action-packed excitement and justice.

26. “Alone”. This brings this series to an end because it never made it past the first season, which is sad because it was a great and quite dark adaptation of “Batman” in animated format.

Thanks to Warner Archive Collection, this series is making it’s way on Blu-ray and completing the series for the fans that did follow this show. The 1080p transfers work perfect with the animated style. The colors are sharp and makes this slick show look great. The DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 surround tracks work great as well with the action and score. There are no additional special features included on this release.

Who doesn’t love the music of Frankie Vallie and the Four Seasons?! Based on the Tony Award-winning musical, “Jersey Boys” gets the big screen treatment from llegendaryactor/director and Oscar winner Clint Eastwood (“Million Dollar Baby,” “Unforgiven”). “Jersey Boys” features some great music and is quite the inspiring drama. Normally not a huge Eastwood fan but he did a great job on converting this stage play works to a feature. I have seen this on Broadway twice and I was a little hesitate in the film but it is very entertaining…oh and that music!

Official Premise: “Jersey Boys” tells the story of four young men from the wrong side of the tracks in New Jersey who came together to form the iconic 1960s rock group The Four Seasons. The story of their trials and triumphs are accompanied by the songs that influenced a generation, including “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Walk Like a Man,” “Dawn,” “Rag Doll,” “Bye Bye Baby,” “Who Loves You,” and many more.

The film stars John Lloyd Young, who reprises his Tony Award-winning portrayal of the legendary lead singer of The Four Seasons, Frankie Valli. Erich Bergen (“Madam Secretary”) plays as Bob Gaudio, writer of the group’s biggest hits. Newcomer Michael Lomenda and Vincent Piazza (“Boardwalk Empire”) star respectively as Nick Massi and Tommy DeVito, two original members of The Four Seasons. Also perfectly cast in the role of mobster Gyp DeCarlo is Oscar® winner Christopher Walken (“The Deer Hunter”), who does some great dancing and singing.

“Jersey Boys” is being released as a combo pack with a Blu-ray + DVD = Ultraviolet Digital HD copy. The 1080p transfer gives the film a lot of scope and takes it off the stage and into the real world. I liked this transition and I thought it was very well done. The music is key for a film like this, obviously. The DTS-HD Master Audio 5,1 delivers a great balance between the songs and the dialogue. You can’t help but belt along with these wonderful classics.

The special features are ok but I would have honestly expected more. There are three featurettes included. “From Broadway To The Big Screen” is obviously focuses on the journey of this film from the stages of Broadway to the big silver screen. “Too Good To Be True” is a feature with cast/crew interviews. Lastly ‘Oh, What A Night’ To Remember” talks about the legacy of The Four Season’s music over the years. I would have loved to see some commentary tracks and more focus on the music.
