BURN THE PRIEST | Legion: XX | Out Now
Featuring Covers of Classics by Cro-Mags, Bad Brains, Big Black, Ministry, Melvins, Quicksand and More

RIAA-certified, Billboard chart-topping, five-time Grammy nominated Richmond, VA band LAMB OF GOD recently released their full-length covers album as BURN THE PRIEST, Legion: XX, via Epic Records. The album is a collection of songs reflecting the greatness of the classic punk, hardcore, crossover and noise artists that influenced them in their formative years, released in celebration of BURN THE PRIEST’s upcoming 20th anniversary.

LAMB OF GOD is pleased to reveal a brand new, Heath Bradley-animated video for their BURN THE PRIEST cover of the Ministry hit, “Jesus Built My Hotrod”. Watch the video now here: http://jesus.lamb-of-god.com/

Guitarist Mark Morton says about the track: “This was a benchmark song from the early 90s. We didn’t even originally plan on doing it – producer Josh Wilbur and I learned it real quickly and put it together. It turned out to be one of our favorite songs of the album. It features a side of Randy that people aren’t used to hearing. Nothing was planned, so it felt fun, and we just went for it.”

In conjunction with the video premiere, Legion: XX is now available for a special discounted price via iTunes! Make sure to grab your digital copy of Legion: XX for just $7.99 now via this link – but hurry – this sale price is only valid for one week: https://btp.lnk.to/legionxx/iTunes

While online, make sure to check out BURN THE PRIEST’s two other previously released videos from Legion: XX – for the Accused’s “Inherit The Earth” and Big Black’s “Kerosene”.

LAMB OF GOD may be one of the biggest bands in modern metal, but they will never forget where they came from. Mark Morton (guitar), John Campbell (bass), and Chris Adler (drums) formed the first incarnation of the band, BURN THE PRIEST, in the winter of 1994 after meeting four years earlier as students at Virginia Commonwealth University. Less than a year later, in the summer of 1995, they met vocalist Randy Blythe before adding Chris Adler’s brother, Willie Adler (guitar), prior to transitioning to LAMB OF GOD – and the rest is global metal history.

The tracks on Legion: XX are performed with the unmistakable precision that has kept LAMB OF GOD vital for two decades, but ultimately harks back to the raw, punk-driven sound first explored by four unsuspecting college students and a line cook-turned-vocalist in their beginnings as heavy music giants. Produced with Josh Wilbur at the helm, Legion: XX exhibits BURN THE PRIEST in their true element.

Additional stream/purchasing options for Legion: XX and pick up merch bundles now via http://smarturl.it/LegionXX. At the official store, you can also order a 7″ vinyl version of “Inherit the Earth” featuring a B-side of “In the Meantime” (originally performed by Helmet).

Slayer, Lamb of God and Behemoth Announce “Spreading the Apocalypse” Tour

SLAYER…LAMB OF GOD…BEHEMOTH…
Spreading The Apocalypse This Summer

LOS ANGELES, CA – Tuesday, February 28, 2017 — There are many perilous ways one can spend time off – Volcano-boarding down Cerro Negro, Nicaragua’s active volcano, or maybe bungee jumping from a helicopter over the bubbling crater of Chile’s Villarrica. How about a visit to Sao Paulo’s Snake Island, home of some 4000 golden lancehead vipers whose venom can melt human flesh, or shark diving without a cage in South Africa. But nothing is quite as hazardous or risky as a night in the pit at a Slayer concert. Add to that the ferociousness of Lamb of God and Behemoth, and you’ve got a Satan-approved triple bill of Biblical proportions.

The six-week expedition will rage across North America beginning July 12 in Bemidji, MN, winding up in Phoenix, AZ on August 20. Slayer and Lamb of God will also play Wisconsin’s Rock Fest 2017 (7/13) and Rock USA 2017 (7/15), and then meet up with Behemoth at the Chicago Open Air Festival on July 16. CD Review: Lamb of God “The Duke”

“The Duke”
Lamb of God
Epic Records
Tracks: 5

Our score: 4 out of 5 stars

Richmond, VA heavy metal band Lamb of God has just released a new five track EP via Epic Records titled “The Duke”. Written in honor of the band’s late friend and fan Wayne Ford, who was named after “The Duke” John Wayne the album features two new tracks and three live performances from the bands recent “Sturm Und Drang” tour.

Over the past few years Lamb of God has become one of my favorite bands both from a recording stand point and as a live band. “The Duke” EP is a solid blending of both of those attributes as rarely do you find a band that is solid in both. Both “Culling” and “The Duke” showcase the bands writing and musicianship. Randy Blythe again gets to stretch his legs vocally similar to his performance on the “Strum Und Drang” track “Overlord” as the EP’s title track flip flops between catchy sing a long verses and choruses to ear shredding break downs and backing vocals. The second new track “Culling” takes off like a rocket with drummer Chris Adler’s machine gun like double bass drums laying a solid foundation for the rest of the band to build up. The remaining three tracks are live cuts taken from the bands Rock AM Ring and Bonnaroo performances. Though I found the mixing of the tracks to be a little on the thin side each song was a still a fun listen and is worth checking out especially if you were fortunate enough to attend one of the shows where these were recorded.

Fan’s of the band already know that “The Duke” EP is a must have however what I think really stands out is that the EP is accessible enough to where new comers and more casual listeners can easily get into as well. The two new tracks and three live tracks makes for a fun familiar listen while adding just enough newness to warrant cracking open your wallet or dipping into your ITunes balance.

Track Listing:
1.) The Duke
2.) Culling
3.) Still Echoes (Live from Rock AM Ring)
4.) 512 (Live from Bonnaroo)
5.) Engage the Fear Machine (Live from Bonnaroo)

Lamb of God/Anthrax- Philadelphia, PA Concert Review

Lamb of God, Anthrax, Deaf Heaven, Power Trip

Date: Saturday, January 16, 2016
Venue: Electric Factory, Philadelphia, PA

Media Mikes Score: 3.5 out of 5 stars

Lamb of God made a stop in the city of brotherly love on January 18th as part of their winter headlining run which is in support of the group’s most recent release “Sturm Und Drang”. Along with the Richmond, VA natives were NY thrash metal legends Anthrax, black metal group Deafheaven and the crossover/thrash 5 piece Power Trip. The historic venue was packed to the rafters with energetic metals fans who were more than ready to live up to their “Killadelphia” name sake.

Starting of the night was the impressive Texas based thrash band Power Trip. The group blazed through a 30 minute set which grabbed the crowd’s attention and didn’t let go. Front man Riley Gale put on a stellar performance that was two parts vintage 80’s thrash and two parts modern metal making for a great start to the evening. Deafheaven would take the stage next basked in an eerie green glow that did little to win over the Philly fans. Despite the lack of vocals in the bands overall mix the group’s unique sound only further agitated the crowd who were not shy about showing their displeasure for the group. This displeasure from the crowd was returned with several gobs of saliva courtesy of lead singer George Clarke. Thankfully things did not get too out of hand as the bands set came to a rather unimpressive end.

Anthrax would follow giving the night the proverbial shot in the arm it needed after the previous bands rough time. The band sounded tighter than ever and looked great. Each of the members worked the stage like the veterans they are as they shredded their way through classic tracks such as “Caught in a Mosh” and “Antisocial” before performing their newest song “Evil Twin” which is the first single of the bands upcoming album titled “For All Kings”. Though the bands set was brief they packed every ounce of energy they had in to those 9 songs bringing the sold-out venues energy to maximum levels. Headliners

Lamb of God would close out the night in the city they consider their second home as Philadelphia was one of the very first cities to really embrace the band and their sound. Lead singer Randy Blythe made several notes of the bands relationship with the city to which the capacity crowd responded with huge applause. The groups set was a perfect mixture of both new and old as in between such classic LOG songs as “Desolation”, “Walk With me in Hell” and “ Now You’ve Got Something to Die For” were new tracks such “512” , “Still Echoes” and the bluesy tinged “Overlord” a song I was certainly excited to hear live. Despite vocals being a bit hard to hear at times the bands set was tight and well rehearsed. I am sure it will only get better as this was just the second night of a tour that runs through mid February.

If the combination of a capacity crowd and a solid bill of heavy music wasn’t enough to make you have a good time this evening then you may have wanted to check your pulse. As the sweat soaked fans spilled out on to the chilly streets on Philly it was safe to say that most if not all in attendance got their monies worth and then some.

Anthrax Set List:
1.) Fight’Em Til You Can’t
2.) Got the Time
3.) Caught in a Mosh
4.) Antisocial
5.) Evil Twin
6.) March of the S.O.D.
7.) In the End

CD Review: Lamb of God “VII – Sturm Und Drang”

Lamb of God
“VII: Sturm Und Drang”
Epic Records
Producer: Josh Wilbur
Tracks: 10

Our Score: 4 out of 5 stars

“VII: Sturm Und Drang” is the latest release from Richmond, Virginia natives Lamb of God. The album which was produced by Josh Wilber features 10 brand new tracks from the metal band and is the follow up to the groups 2012 release “Resolution”

Right off the bat “VII: Sturm Und Drang” seems to have a different feel than previous Lamb of God releases. The album as a whole seems to be more melodic and cohesive. Each song appears to be meticulously crafted and showcases each of the members set discipline. “Still Echoes” kicks the album off like an atomic explosion as the blast beating provided by drummer Chris Adler sets the ground work for the guitar tandem of Mark Morton and Will Adler who play off one another beautifully.

“512”, the first single off the album was easily my favorite as its catchy sing along chorus and trudging rhythms make it worthy of blasting in the car with the windows down. “Overlord” gives us a taste of vocalist Randy Blythe’s melodic side. The track is a blues infused rocker that gets stuck in your head almost instantly. The introduction of more melodic pieces into the Lamb of God sound certainly doesn’t mean they have gone soft as tracks like “Anthropoid” and “Delusion Pandemic” are signature in your face LOG making “VII: Sturm Und Drang” the bands most well rounded release to date.

Track Listing:
1.) Still Echoes
2.) Erase This
3.) 512
4.) Embers
5.) Footprints
6.) Overlord
7.) Anthropoid
8.) Engage the Fear Machine
9.) Delusion Pandemic
10.) Torches

Blu-ray Review “Son of God”

Starring: Diogo Morgado, Roma Downey, Louise Delamere
Director: Christopher Spencer
Rated: PG-13 (Parental Guidance Suggested)
Studio: 20th Century Fox
DVD Release Date: June 3, 2014
Run Time: 138 minutes

Film: 2 out of 5 stars
Extras: 2.5 out of 5 stars

I was brought up in a catholic household growing up and I was an alter boy for many years. Having attended catholic school or many years, I am quite aware of The Bible and it’s stories. In case you are not aware “Son of God” contains re-edited scenes from ten-hour miniseries “The Bible”, which aired in March 2013 on the History Channel. There are some new scenes in this movie, but the majority has already been show on TV. I know that producers (and also husband and wife) Mark Burnett and Roma Downey probably saw dollars signs when this show was such a big hit on TV and thought how can they make more. Isn’t greed one of the seven deadly sins 😉 Either way, I don’t blame them I just wasn’t really absorbed by the almost forced faith that was being delivered in this film. But this is just my opinions, I have heard from many people that this quite amazing and inspiring but I guess I just didn’t drink that cool aid.

Official Premise: Now, the larger-than-life story of The New Testament gets a larger-than life treatment in the stand-alone feature SON OF GOD. Told with the scope and scale of an action epic, the film features powerful performances, exotic locales, dazzling visual effects and a rich orchestral score from Oscar-winner Hans Zimmer. Portuguese actor Diogo Morgado portrays Jesus as the film spans from his humble birth through his teachings, crucifixion and ultimate resurrection. It marks the first motion picture about Jesus’ life since Passion of the Christ, released ten years ago.

20th Century Fox Told releases this film on Blu-ray as a combo pack also including a DVD and digital copy of the film. The 1080p transfer does succeed in given this film the scope and scale of an action epic film. The exotic locations and visual effects are well represented as well. The DTS-HD Mater Audio 5.1 track works well with the rich orchestral score. In terms of special features, there more faith filled goodies. Firstly there is also a Spanish version of the film included since I guess there was a big demand for that. There are two featurettes “Son of God: Reborn” and a behind-the-scenes look into the making of the film with”From The Set: The Passion”. Lastly, thereis “Faith Into Practice”, which focuses on introducing children to a relationship with Jesus Christ, which is actually quite decent (especially having a two year old myself).

Film Review “Son of God”

Starring: Diogo Morgado, Roma Downey and Darwin Shaw
Directed By: Christopher Spencer
Rated: PG-13
Running Time: 138 Minutes
20th Century Fox

Our Score: 2 out of 5 stars

I have to preface this review by stating that I attended Catholic school for four years. During those years I probably learned more about the Christian faith than I have at any other point in my life. No matter what grade, one part of our day was dedicated to a religion class. No, not learning about other religions and expanding our horizons, but instead just going over the same Biblical curriculum. Think of it in the same way they hammer in English and math lessons every year in schools. During religion class, we either read scripture, interpreted scripture or watched a good old fashioned New Testament movie. I watched almost every single kind, ranging from animated, black and white, silent, TV series and ones I’m fairly certain were created just for church distribution. Very few of them distinguished themselves when retelling the story of Jesus. “Son of God” is no different.

With hundreds of pages to go off, where does the movie begin? Well it never feels like it actually starts off anywhere and instead just dabbles throughout the beginnings of Jesus Christ (Morgado). I guess you could say it starts at his birth, but that literally occupies a couple of minutes in the movie. For some reason they try to establish Pontius Pilate (Greg Hicks) early on. He’s clearly a big player later in the story, but showcasing him on horseback while his minions kill people seems rather pointless. The story isn’t really set in stone. We have some random narrative from the Apostle John (Sebastian Knapp) that adds nothing. The first third of the movie is spent meandering from one random story to the next and surprisingly Christ’s baptism was not one of those stories. We reach some consistency when Jesus makes his final entry into Jerusalem before his crucifixion. I feel like most movies on the life of Christ hinge their emotional bets on the crucifixion. “Son of God” does too, but the payoff comes off passionless.

The movie oddly spends half it’s time dipping into the behind the scenes politics of the Romans and the Jewish elders bickering about Jesus. It saps previous screentime that could have been used to build the relationship Jesus had with the Virgin Mary (Downey) or his Apostles. The movie heavily focuses on the people who seem to lack faith in Christ’s abilities. Everyone from bystanders to his Apostles are constantly second guessing his claims and his miracles. As for the actors, they’re convincing enough in their roles, but nothing screams job security. Playing the Lord and Savior for over a billion people is a tough task, but Diogo Morgado is a bit underwhelming. He smiles some pearly whites when delivering a sermon, but Jesus wasn’t all niceties and politeness. One of the most pivotal stories of the New Testament is when Jesus becomes physically upset that the temple in Jerusalem has become a den of thieves and crooks who peddle their goods. This movie should call for Jesus to become physically upset (the only time it happens in the Bible), but instead becomes an obvious sign that Morgado may not have been the right man for the role.

This isn’t a bad movie, but it’s not a good movie either. This movie suffers from being way too vanilla with its material. It seems afraid to try anything new in terms of story telling. I had to ask myself after the movie: Why must a movie like this be made if there’s nothing creatively new to add? I know the immediate response would be to spread the word of God for a new generation. But I don’t think that’s a real reason if this movie is simply a cut and paste theatrical release of “The Bible” miniseries that was aired on the History Channel. Maybe I’m wrong. All I know is, future Catholic school kids will be stuck watching this when teacher feels like letting the TV do the lecturing.

Film Review “As the Palaces Burn”

“As the Palaces Burn”
Starring: Lamb of God
Director: Don Argott
Rated: Unrated
Studio: 9.14 Pictures
Run Time: 90 minutes

Our Score: 4.5 out of 5 stars

What starts out as a typical band related documentary quickly becomes much more than that. “As the Palaces Burn” is the latest film from heavy metal band Lamb of God. Directed by Don Argott and being released via Epic Records and 9.14 Pictures the film is a 90 minute rollercoaster ride of emotion that captivates the viewer.

Whether you are a fan of Lamb of God’s music or not I strongly urge you to see this film. This is not just another behind the scenes type film designed to give fans an inside look at their favorite band. This may have been the original intent however mid way through the film it starts to document the series of events which lead to the incarceration of lead singer D. Randall Blythes incarceration in the Czech Republic for the charge of Manslaughter.

As the film delves deeper into these events the film takes is most dramatic turn as it shows the immense amount of emotion the band members have for one another as well as Randy’s own strength throughout the entire time of his incarceration and subsequent return to the Czech Republic to stand trial for these clearly bogus charges. Director Don Argott did a great job capturing everything I enjoy seeing in a film of this nature. Candid interviews with not only the band but with fans and fellow musicians gave the film a number of different perspectives that helped affirm the bands place in the music world and the impact the events involving Randy had on those both close to him and those from afar.

Don’t expect anything to be sugar coated or fluffy with this film. Those two words could probably never be used to describe the band Lamb of God before now or after. To the point editing and straight forward accounts from those who lived it give “As the Palaces Burn” the realest feel I have gotten from a documentary to date.

CD Review: Lamb of God “As the Palaces Burn: 10th Anniversary Edition”

Lamb of God
“As the Palaces Burn” 10th Anniversary Edition
Razor and Tie
Tracks: 13

Our Score: 3 out of 5 stars

Originally released in May of 2003 Lamb of God’s “As the Palaces Burn” was the bands 3rd studio release. The album was widely received and is considered by many as one of the most influential, modern day metal records of our time. Produced by Strapping Young Lad/Devin Townsend Project mastermind Devin Townsend the album featured 10 aggressive and brutally honest tracks which conveyed the bands feelings during a very turbulent time in America. The 10th Anniversary edition of “As the Palaces Burn” is being released via Razor and Tie Record and features re-mixed/mastered versions of the original 10 tracks included on the album along with three previously unreleased demo versions of “Ruin”, “As the Palaces Burn” and Blood Junkie”. Accompanying the CD is a DVD featuring a newly filmed “Making of” documentary along with interviews and commentary from those involved with the album.

When an album is re-released I generally don’t take much notice as if it was something I was interested in initially I would have checked out the original version of whatever album it maybe. However I have bought a couple in my day only to be relatively disappointed. Sadly that is exactly the same feeling I had after listening to the anniversary edition of “As The Palaces Burn”. Don’t get me wrong the new mixes are certainly better than the original versions as these re-workings offered a quite a bit more clarity and bottom end but, that was not enough to really warrant buying a second copy of the album. The additional tracks were exactly as advertised “demos” as they sounded as if they were recorded on a boom box in some ones basement. This release wasn’t all misses though as the real gem came in the way of the included bonus DVD. Some great interviews are included on here as well as an hour long documentary about the making of the album. I found these alone were enough to make up for any noted short comings.

Hardcore Lamb of God fans will certainly want to check this out merely for the bonus DVD content however if you have the original version and are content with that then I would say this new release is a necessity. However if your original copy was lost or suffered the fate of being scratched as it slid around on the floor of your Dodge Daytona then the “As the Palaces Burn” 10th Anniversary Edition is a suitable replacement.
