How to measure your performance on Twitter

Twitter has 187 million daily active users and is a popular place for people, brands and businesses to market. Brands use twitter to engage with their audience and this is an effective marketing strategy. Twitter allows you to increase brand awareness, keep up with the latest trends in your industry, promote your brand, drive website traffic and get instant feedback about your product or service.

For you to grow on twitter you need to measure your progress. This is important because it helps you gain insight into the quality of your audience and how many followers are engaging with your content. It also tells you how well your content is doing with your followers and if you need to adjust your strategy or not.

If you have never measured your performance on twitter before, it might be a bit confusing. Here are a few ways to measure progress:

Keep up with follower count and engagement rate

Another important way to measure your performance on twitter is to measure your follower count and how it grows over time. You should create a timeline to compare your followers past and present. It’s also important to check how much engagement you get compared to your follower count. Engagement is important because it helps you connect and establish a relationship with your followers which is good for your brand and business, and there are many growth services similar to Twesocial that can help you with that. If you engage, you will gain followers. It is better to connect and engage with your followers than it is to have a huge number of people following you that you do not engage with. Engagement establishes loyalty from your audience.

Use analytics on twitter

A good way to measure your performance on twitter is by using analytics. Twitter analytics gives you details and summaries about individual tweets, media and ad campaigns. You need to understand how your content is being received and you can use this information to measure success, formulate a strategy and make money.

There are also different twitter metrics that you need to track. The top 10 metrics include:

  1. Average tweet performance: Includes average engagement rate, average shares and average retweet numbers.
  2. Audience type: What is the primary gender of your audience? Where are your followers from, what are their hobbies and interests etc.
  3. Engagement rate: tracking your engagement rate will show you whether you are successful in connecting with your audience.
  4. Type of engagement: You want your audience to like, retweet or comment on your tweets to show their commitment. Retweets and comments are more valuable than likes.
  5. Content performance: Look for a good impression to engagement ratio.
  6. Brand follower growth: analytics enables you to track how quickly you are growing your follower base by looking at your performance on a week-by-week basis.
  7. Impressions: Shows you how many people see your account each day.
  8. Video completion rate:  Video views on your twitter analytics shows how many people have seen and played your videos and completion rate shows how many people watched the whole video.
  9. Hashtag performance: Gives insight into your most used hashtags and most engaging terms.
  10. Return on investment: To make sure the money you are putting into twitter campaigns are coming back to you in the form of new customers and conversations.

The most important metric is engagement rate, hashtags, follower growth and impressions.

Check which tweets are most popular

You should always check which tweets perform the best and are the most popular. Pay close attention to the time that the post was tweeted, what the tweet was about and what the format was (whether it was an image, video or meme), as this can help you to get Twitter followers easily and effectively. Also check if tweets that are similar are as popular and keep in mind that there are different times where followers are more active.

Track hashtags

Hashtags are twitters most popular creation. It is not possible to run a social media Champaign without hashtags. Stick to a few popular tags to help gain your tweets more attention and then over time you can experiment with different hashtags to see which ones are best received.

To track your hashtags use Sprouts Social outbound. They provide insight into your hashtags and most engaging terms. Tracking hashtags shows what people are talking about and how many of your hashtags are used. This helps you strategize which hashtags to gain the most engagement.

Enjoying the Best of Organ Performance with VST Plugins

The organ is an amazing instrument that is very similar to the piano in that they are both played using the same musical principle based on white and black keys that represent the musical scale. This is however how far their similarity goes. This instrument has an interesting and rich history which you can find here.

While the piano naturally delivers a bright, delineated sound that is only sustained when a sustain pedal is used or while the note is held down, the organ on the other hand delivers a rich sustained sound that has a naturally lengthy decay time.

This instrument is easily among the oldest instruments still relevant in modern music. In this article, we will take a quick look at this instrument and how practically anyone can use it in their music projects.

A Look at this Instrument

Like we mentioned above, this is one of the oldest instruments available today. It also has a number of variations with marked differences mainly in their sound. This difference in sound can be readily linked to the principle behind their functions.

Let’s quickly look at a few examples.

Types of Organs

We can broadly group the many different types of organs into two – Pipe and non-pipe organs.

Pipe organ describes the types that make their sound using the passage of air through precisely measured pipes. This is probably the earliest form of this instrument. You will also find that the largest of organs fall under this category.

Some examples that fall under this category include: church, concert, theater and chamber organs.

For the non-pipe category, we have other variations that make use of methods other than air passing through pipes. Examples include those that use reed, electricity, water, steam and digital synthesis.

All you need to do is look at the names to know how they generate their sound. The reed type uses reeds like the accordion while the others use electricity, water, steam and digital synthesis respectively.

The digital or electronic variant tries to simulate the tones of these various types so it does not necessarily have a tone of its own.

You can find an extensive list of the different types here:

The VST Plugin Solution

With over 10 types of this instrument to choose from based on their unique tones, it is practically impossible for anyone to own each one of them. This setback has thankfully been overcome with the help of technology.

Thanks to VST plugins, it is now possible to enjoy the different tones and feel of these different types of organs all from one point. You can now easily feature the different tones in a musical production without having to physically have any of these instruments anywhere near you.

This is the power and benefit of VST plugins.

What are VST Plugins?

If you know enough about computers, then you will likely have come across the word plugins. These are third party software of programs that can be installed within an existing program to perform a specific function.

VST on the other hand is a special platform that makes it possible for software that simulate the functions of hardware equipment and sounds of instruments to be used within a digital audio workstation or as a standalone instrument player on your computer.

This means that an organ VST plugin can be used to play organ sounds within a DAW or alone without having any physical organ instrument. This most certainly makes it very easy for small studio owners to be able to explore their creativity, using sounds that would usually have been beyond their means and physical capacity to use.

You can read more about the VST platform in this post.

Factors to Consider when Choosing

When choosing an organ VST plugin, there are some important things that have to be considered. We will quickly look at some of the more important factors.

When we use virtual instruments, more often than not, we do so because the alternative is way more expensive and demanding. It therefore means that we want the instrument to sound as real as possible.

To ensure this, you should find out if the product is synthesized or sampled. A synthesized plugin will have tones generated through computer programming, though this process is getting highly sophisticated, it is usually pretty difficult to get really realistic tones this way.

The alternative which is also a lot more expensive is the sampled variants. In this type, the tones are sampled (recorded) from actual live performances of the instrument. The process is usually very tedious and highly demanding as the aim is to capture every nuance and feel that the instrument produces.

In more cases than not, this should be your choice if you want the best of realism.

How much you are willing to spend will determine which you should go for. Thankfully, you can get plugins from less than hundred dollars to thousands of dollars. So, decide on your budget and choose one that fits it.

You should also note that some virtual instruments require a lot of space for their sample libraries. This is especially true for sampled ones. You should therefore ensure you have enough space for the choice you make.

There are different platforms in which different plugins can operate. Our focus here is VST so you should ensure that the DAW and OS you are using supports VST.

If you do not know where to find these plugins, you may want to check out any top VST plugin hub online for some great recommendations.

As a musician or music producer today, there are so many tools that you can use to enhance your performance and music as a whole. We’ve just looked at one of such tools and we hope that you’ve gotten some information that will help you going forward.

Thomas Dolby Announces U.S. Solo Performance Dates

October shows in seven U.S. cities include appearance at L.A.’s

 Grammy Museum and showcase clubs.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Thomas Dolby, the Grammy™-nominated British musician and tech entrepreneur, has announced an October seven-city U.S. mini-tour.

These solo performances will take the form of a 60-minute lecture about his new social networking transmedia game, The Floating City, interspersed with live songs from his upcoming album (A Map of the Floating City, due out October 25 on Lost Toy People Records through Redeye Distribution), as well as a few timeless classics.

The trip will take the artist from coast to coast, with live appearances in Washington D.C., New York, Chicago, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Most are club venues, though some live radio and TV shows are included. A list of cities and venues appears below.

At each show, Dolby will tell the story behind the recording of the new album on his solar-powered lifeboat, with an impressive array of guests including Mark Knopfler, Imogen Heap and Regina Spektor. He will also give his personal account of the groundbreaking Floating City game, which he describes as “a Dieselpunk dystopia . . . weary survivors of a global climate catastrophe bartering and trading to stay alive in the face of techno-piracy and mutant squid attacks!”

More than five thousand players played the online game, forming into nine “tribes” and competing for the grand prize — a free private concert by Dolby and his band from his new album.

Along the way they explored a fictional world based on characters and places in Thomas’ lyrics going all the way back to 1980; and discovered downloadable MP3 files of his songs, including sneak previews of works from his upcoming album.

Dolby will retell the player-created stories that unfolded during the 12 weeks of gameplay, highlighting key characters’ profiles, and the “patent applications” they filed to protect themselves against the unpredictable freak events reported by The Floating City Gazette. And he’ll share behind-the-scenes insights into the production process, which took place over the course of an eight-month period using a team of developers in different time zones who never met face to face.

November will see a full live concert tour of the U.K. by Thomas and his band, and a theater/performing arts center tour of the USA will follow in early 2012, along with selected festival dates later in the year.

Prior to The Floating City game and the new album A Map of the Floating City, Dolby is known for his hits “She Blinded Me with Science,” “Hyperactive,” “Europa” and “Airhead.” He also wrote Lene Lovich’s “New Toy” and Whodini’s “Magic Wand.” He is presently musical director of the TED Conference.
