“Halo” has this huge universe that has been built around it over the years. I am sure that in order to truly appreciate “Red vs. Blue”, you need to be a MEGA huge fan of “Halo”. Well, I am not but I still enjoyed it…for the most part. This release contains the ninth season of the series. The season depicts two separate stories. The first one in uses the “Halo: Reach” engine in machinima style and continues after the finale of “Revelation”. The other part is presented with CGI and it’s storyline follows after the “Blood Gulch Chronicles”.

What I enjoyed about this season is that it really packed some decent action but was also very funny. The recorded dialogue is pretty sharp and witty. I have to saw though the machinima style is cool but definitely limited to its potential. The CGI scenes are freaking awesome but there really isn’t enough of them to make this rock. I would have loved to see more for sure. The one part that I had a issue with was the jumping between storylines…got a little confusing. From what I read about “Revelation”, in this season the machinima and CGI are not blended and each one actually represents a different timeline in the “Red vs. Blue” storyline.

The special features on the disc make this purchase worth wild for sure. First off we have commentary from directors Burnie Burns and Matt Hullum. It is fun and worth checking out. There are additional special videos and PSA’s from the series, which are short but definitely fun. The outtakes are also very funny and is a great addition. There are also deleted scenes and they are good but not great. The cast interviews worth a look also especially since you get to meet the people behind the voices. Lastly there are behind-the-scenes features which give some great insight into the production, probably the best feature.

Film Review “The Swell Season”

I have been a big fan of The Swell Season and Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová for many years. The film “Once” was such a great music film if not one of the best music based films in recent days. Glen and Markéta’s folk music is so powerful and it digs so deep into their listeners hearts. Since “Once”, the duo have toured the world and released an album “Strict Joy” (which I listen to at least one a week). This documentary was filmed over three years following their Oscar win for “Once”. It really captured the spirit of their music and delivers a great insight into singer/songwriters lives.

This documentary does not just show the positive side, it is very intense and shows the real behind the scenes with ups and downs. It is a very honest and intimate look into this amazing band. We get to visit Glen and Markéta hometowns and get to meet their families. It is very up-close look at the duo. We also got to go on tour with them as they played various venues and meet their fans. I do not think I could have asked for more in a film.

There are many different way to shoot a documentary. With this film, it just feel so natural like we aren’t watching them more like re-living it with them. You really get to see how much Glen and Markéta doing what they do best. The music in the film is fantastic as we get a real behind the scenes look and very raw view. The whole demo feel from the music is so great and really captures the essence of The Swell Season. If you are fan of Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová you NEED to see this movie. If you haven’t heard of them, pick up a copy of “Once” on DVD, “Strict Joy” on CD and then watch this film.

DVD Review “Drinking Made Easy: Season 1”

This show is about comedian Zane Lamprey explores the United States and the local drinking culture of their various cities. The format of the show is not too complex as he drinks pretty much anything. The show isn’t just drinking though as his friend Steve McKenna usually focus on eating challenges throughout this cities. After 24 episodes it gets a little bit repetitive but luckily each city has different options to offer. The show is entertaining overall but I still prefer the show “Three Sheets” which is currently airing on Spike.

Season one consists of Zane and his crew visiting the following cities Phoenix, Sante Fe, Austin, Dallas, New Orleans, Florida, Atlanta, Virginia, Philadelphia, New York, Boston, Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Louis, Kansas City, Denver, Salt Lake City, Boise, Portland, Napa, San Francisco, Las Vegas, San Diego and Los Angeles. Some of the highlight stops on the season come from New York, New Orleans, Florida and Vegas. The show also features Zane and Steve in a competition called “Six Six-Pack Challenge”, these were typical lame. Zane also tries to learn the history behind each location.

The special features on the disc great and jam packed. The first feature is almost an hour footage from the “Drinking Made Easy” Comedy Tour. If you are looking for deleted scenes you are in the right place as this has over an hour of deleted scenes. Unlike most deleted scenes they are worth watching. Lastly each episode has commentary from Zane and his crew, this is really funny stuff and adds a different aspect to the show.

Cartoon Network’s “Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated” is actually the eleventh adaption of the Hanna-Barbera’s Scooby-Doo series and it also stands as a reboot for the franchise. I have always been a fan of this series since it mixes horror themes with mystery and comedy. What I like most about this show is that each episode ends in a cliffhanger and makes you want to watch the next  one.  I watch quite a bit of animation and this series stand out as clever and also funny.  If you remember the live action films, Matthew Lillard reprises his role of Shaggy.  Other notable voice cast includes Gary Cole, Patrick Warburton and Lewis Black.

The episodes includes in this set are episode 9 through 12.  In “Battle of the Humungonauts”, focuses on a sibling rivalry that rises to monstrous heights.  “Howl of the Fright Hound” follows a robot dog tries to literally tear the gang apart. “The Secret Serum” is about a vampire who has a thirst for a beauty formula wants to sink her fangs into the kinds.  “The Shrieking Madness” releases a creature who comes alive from the cover of a science-fiction book. What I like about this series is that each episode are intertwined with some aspect from its prior episode.  I wish this release would have had more episodes in this volume.  This season includes 26 episodes and I look forward to future volumes.  Unfortunately there are no special features on this disc.

Synopsis:  The adventures of a talking dog and his four human pals as they try to unravel the strange and haunted history of their hometown. The tone is comedic, but it will never lose the edge that our heroes are in some frightening situations. The stakes are real.

DVD Review “Storage Wars: Season 1”

This show follows storage hunters Dave Hester, Jarrod Schulz/Brandi Passante, Darrell Sheets and Barry Weiss as they battle each other to win units. I am a fan of the show “Auction Hunters”, so I figured I should give this show a go. The show does not have the personality or entertainment that “Auction Hunters” has. Allen Haff & Ton Jones from that show are memorizing to watch on the TV and these guys don’t come close. These people are working these units out of desperation and these people are actually rather sad and I feel bad for them watching.  They are not knowledgeable about the business, which is why this show fails…not everyone can have a reality show. If A&E is reading this review, Dave Hester is the reason why I will not continue to watch this show.

The show takes a different angle on the idea of the show. Since the show has so many different types of personalities, this leads to a lot of fighting, bitterness and battling at each auction. Don’t get me wrong it does make for good entertainment but it also takes away from the reveal of the show. What I like most about “Auction Hunters” is there journey to sell the items and make money. This show features people that have their own shops so the sells are not instant and a lot assumed sales. I did complete watching this season but I will not be tuning in for season two. Check out “Auction Hunters” for a damn good reality auction hunting show.

TNT Summons Hit Series “Franklin & Bash” for Second Season


TNT has summoned Franklin & Bash back to the stand for a second season of the hit legal drama starring Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Breckin Meyer. Currently airing Wednesdays at 9 p.m. (ET/PT), Franklin & Bash ranks as one of basic cable’s top new series of the summer. Franklin & Bash is produced by Four Sycamore Productions, Left Coast Productions and FanFare Productions in association with Sony Pictures Television, with Jamie Tarses, Kevin Falls and Bill Chais serving as executive producers. TNT has ordered 10 episodes for the second season.

“This summer, Franklin & Bash has broken out as a hugely entertaining series with great characters, sharp writing and a terrific cast,” said Michael Wright, executive vice president, head of programming, for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies. “We’re thrilled that the show has drawn such a remarkably strong following and look forward to bringing it back next summer.”

In Franklin & Bash, Gosselaar and Meyer star as two young, fly-by-the-seat-of-their-pants street lawyers who cause a seismic culture clash when they join a legendary, button-down law firm. Malcolm McDowell plays Stanton Infeld, a Renaissance man and the patriarch of the law firm. Also starring are Dana Davis, Kumail Nanjiani, Reed Diamond and Garcelle Beauvais.

Since premiering on June 1, Franklin & Bash has drawn 3.9 million viewers in Live + 7, ranking it among basic cable’s Top 5 new series for the summer-to-date. The series is averaging an outstanding 1.8 million adults 18-49 and adults 25-54. “Community” Season 2 DVD Announced, Sneak Peek of Bloopers!

School is back in session September 6th when Community: The Complete Second Season arrives on DVD from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The sophomore season of this smart comedy series, starring Joel McHale (TV’s “The Soup”), Ken Jeong (The Hangover Part II) and Emmy® winner Chevy Chase, resumes with the return to GreendaleCommunity College where our favorite study group is back at it with more outrageous adventures and unintentional bonding. The quick-witted, sarcastic ensemble cast includes Gillian Jacobs (TV’s “The Book of Daniel”), Danny Pudi (TV’s “Greek”), Yvette Nicole Brown (TV’s “Rules of Engagement”), Alison Brie (TV’s “Mad Men”), and Donald Glover (TV’s “30 Rock”).

Community: The Complete Second Season contains tons of uncensored special features, including cast and crew commentary on every episode, deleted scenes, outtakes on every disc, season 2 cast evaluations, “The Paintball Finale: From Script to Screen” featurette, “Creating Wonderland” featurette, animatics and more!
