Warner Bros.’ Classic Holiday Film “A Christmas Story” will be Featured in Frozen Spectacular Ice! During Christmas at Gaylord Palms!

ICE! and the resort’s mix of holiday entertainment runs November 16 through January 6.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – (July 17, 2018) – For the first time ever, beloved holiday film “A Christmas Story” will be recreated as a frozen, immersive attraction inside ICE!–the signature experience during Christmas at Gaylord Palms. During the holiday season, the Orlando-area resort welcomes guests to make memories amongst festive décor and a charming mix of Christmassy activities and shows, becoming “Everything Christmas in One Extraordinary Place” for the 52-day event, Christmas at Gaylord Palms presented by Pepsi.

CINEMATIC HOLIDAY CLASSIC IN ICE!

“A Christmas Story” has been a staple of holiday movie lists for years, but now guests can experience this holiday favorite in a whole new way inside ICE! presented by DEI. The hilarious family tale will come to life through hand-carved ice sculptures and displays, inviting guests to relive the film’s iconic scenes such as The Old Man’s Major Award, Aunt Clara’s pink nightmare and the ultimate triple dog dare at the school’s flagpole, and many more!

The ICE! attraction is crafted by artisans from Harbin, China, home of the world’s largest ice and snow sculpture festival, who travel more than 6,000 miles to hand-carve more than two million pounds of colorful ice, creating larger-than-life sculptures. This year, as guests explore the nine-degree attraction, they will discover more than a dozen fan-favorite scenes from “A Christmas Story,” along with the event’s two-story ice slides and the popular Frostbite Factory live ice carving showcase. The ICE! experience concludes with a separate area dedicated to a traditional Nativity created with crystal clear ice.

NEW EXPERIENCES

Award-winning buffet restaurant Villa de Flora will welcome special Christmastime friends during The Elf on the Shelf® Character Breakfast, where guests can join Santa’sOfficial Scout Elves for a fun and festive character breakfast. Kids and adults will enjoy a delicious buffet spread complete with classic breakfast favorites and live cooking stations, enjoying  special visits from Santa’s Official Scout Elves as they dine.

Gaylord Palms’ St. Augustine atrium will be home to a brand-new, dazzling light show when Dreams of Christmas makes its debut. This multisensory experience will feature a new musical score accompanied with millions of dancing, choreographed lights all around the resort’s six-story Christmas tree during nightly shows.

HOLIDAY FAVORITES RETURN

“Holiday thrills” take on a whole new meaning during Cirque Dreams Unwrapped, a 25-minute, action-packed experience, featuring soaring acrobatics, theatricality and imagination that will have guests on the edge of their seats. Cirque Dreams Unwrapped features new acts and performers each year to bring to life a magical and timeless Christmas wonderland, all imagined by Broadway director and renowned Cirque Dreams founder Neil Goldberg.

Guests exploring the meandering paths inside the resort’s Everglades atrium will find the Christmas Tree Trail, a display of nine magnificent trees provided by Balsam Hill. Sparkle the Elf, Santa’s chief Christmas Tree Decorator, has personally prepared these for display at Gaylord Palms. From snowmen and candy canes to reindeer and nutcrackers, each tree represents one of Sparkle’s favorite things about Christmas, with one even honoring the Florida-themed resort!

The immersive, interactive Reindeer Express Post Office returns this year, where everyone is invited to jot down their top Christmas wishes on a postcard before entering this special facility to launch their wishes off on a journey to Santa.

Festive Alpine Village will again be the central hub for holiday happenings. In addition to ICE!, the village is home to various attractions and shows, Photos with Santa, seasonal food and beverage options plus holiday retail locations, including a Build-A-Bear Workshop®, where imaginations soar. Guests choose from all kinds of furry friends to make and bring home, including the Gaylord Hotels-exclusive light-up Snowburst polar bear.

Gingerbread Decorating Corner returns, now located inside the brand-new Alpine Village Sweet Shop! Guests may select a gingerbread house or a themed cookie kit to enjoy a sticky and fun interactive experience, creating sweet souvenirs to take home. Mrs. Claus’ Christmas Traditions brings the First Lady of the North Pole back to Gaylord Palms as she leads a half-hour interactive show. Santa’s Snow Throw puts real snow in the hands of guests as they show off their pitching prowess by tossing snowballs at a variety of interactive targets created by Santa’s Elves. Bragging rights go to those with the best aim!

More Than 50 Performers Prepare To Bring The Marvel Universe To Life In This Summer’s Live Action Arena Spectacular

Ellenton, FL, (June 12, 2014) – After scouring the country to find the best of the best in live action performers with an amazing array of disciplines and skills, Feld Entertainment, Inc., the worldwide leader in live touring family events, today reveals the final cast of more than 50 performers ready to bring its most ambitious live event experience to life in Marvel Universe LIVE!. Debuting this July in Tampa, FL, before having its world premiere at New York City’s Barclays Center on Wednesday, August 13, the show will be the most physically demanding in Feld Entertainment’s storied history and will stop in 85 cities nationwide.

Featuring the most Marvel characters ever in one production, Marvel Universe LIVE! will be headlined by a cast trained in everything from martial arts to motocross in order to bring the Marvel Universe to the live action arena. Supported by a unique blend of aerial stunts, pyrotechnics and state-of-the-art special effects, the performers will bring an epic live action experience right in front of audiences’ eyes every time.

After an intensive eight month cross-country casting process that took place in New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Orlando and Ellenton, Florida, with hundreds of hopefuls representing the United States, Mexico, Hungary, France, United Kingdom, Russia, and Japan showing off their considerable skills, the final ensemble is set. When the spotlight finally shines, spectators will see some of the world’s most gifted athletes and performers including professional snow-skater and three-time X Games champ Phil Smage (Captain America), WMX Pro National champion and two-time X Games winner Ashley Fiolek (Hydra Agent), and 2012 X Games Silver Medalist Louise Forsley (Black Widow). To depict the superlative athleticism of some of Marvel’s most renowned heroes, Feld Entertainment also has signed martial arts expert and AAU Junior Olympics/National Champion Kirk Jenkins (Wolverine) and long-time American Ninja Warrior professional course tester Eric Foster (Hawkeye).

Marvel Universe LIVE! will captivate audiences with an authentic and original story that brings more than 25 Marvel characters together on one epic quest. The story is framed around the battle over the Cosmic Cube, the source of ultimate power and one of the most feared and coveted treasures in the Marvel Universe, that has been shattered into pieces by the mighty Thor in order to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands. With the pieces scattered across the globe, Thor’s villainous brother, Loki, devises a scheme to clone its powers, inciting a threat that could not only decimate Earth but also obliterate the Universe.

Film Review “The Spectacular Now”

It’s been done a hundred times on film. Cool guy meets quiet, nerdy girl. Romance ensues. “She’s All That.” “Pretty in Pink.” “16 Candles.” Those are the first three that popped into my head. They are also three of the better ones. Now it’s time to add another film to the list. And it might be the best one yet.

Sutter Keeley (Teller) is THE party guy. As he works towards completing his senior year in high school he maintains a set schedule. School. Work. Party. And no matter where he is (school, work or party) he’s always accompanied by his trusty flask. Sutter has a problem. When his girlfriend dumps him he compounds that problem several times over only to wake up on the lawn of Aimee Finicky (Woodley), a classmate he doesn’t even know. Aimee likes Manga (Japanese comics) and is planning on going to college. Sutter barely plans for the next day. But despite their obvious differences the two seem to connect in a way that will change both of them.

Based on the novel by Tim Tharp, “The Spectacular Now” is a heartfelt look at love and life told honestly through the eyes of those experiencing it. I had some reservations at the beginning of the film. Sutter was working his friends like Jonah Hill in “Superbad” and, for a brief moment, I resigned myself to watch another standard teen comedy. Then he meets Aimee. Both of them grew up without a father and that fact gives them a bond. Sutter tells Aimee his father is an airplane pilot and never around. Sutter lives with his mother (where have you been Jennifer Jason Leigh) and works at the local men’s clothing store. Aimee’s home life is similar, except her job is covering for her mother on a paper route. Needing help in class to pass Sutter asks Aimee to help tutor him. Of course the time spent together brings them closer. But sometimes you have to lose the things you love to appreciate them.

I really loved Miles Teller when he played Willard in the remake of “Footloose.” He showed a lot of promise for a long career. He lost a lot of that, in my opinion, in this past March’s “21 and Over.” But he earns it back, in spades, here. We see behind Teller’s eyes the pain he’s trying to drink away. When Aimee finally does get to meet good old dad (an outstanding Kyle Chandler) it’s easy to see why Sutter has problems. What’s amazing here is that Sutter understands he has a problem. When his boss (Bob Odenkirk) tells him he needs to stop drinking or lose his job Sutter doesn’t hesitate to tell him he can’t stop drinking. He just quits. “I guess if I were your father I’d begin lecturing you now,” his boss tells him. “If YOU were my father you wouldn’t have to,” is Sutter’s reply. Equally as good is Woodley, who was robbed of a much deserved Oscar nomination a few years ago for “The Descendants.” Here she strips away all pretense (like the rest of the cast, Woodley wears no make-up) to give a performance that is raw and nuanced. First love is an amazing thing. And credit the filmmakers for not dramatizing the fateful “first time.” In so many films it’s portrayed as serious and painful, almost like a punishment. Here it is shown the way I remember it…nervous banter and a lot of giggling.

Last month we were treated to “The Way, Way Back.” August gives us this gem. Oscar night is going to be fun this year.

I have been a fan of “Where’s Waldo?” from day one! This year the man who loves to hide is celebrating his twenty-fifth year. Waldo is bringing the holiday spirit in with this new sticker book. It is fun for kids but obviously doesn’t have much reply once the stickers are used. I was really hoping for a book of all puzzles and less stickers…but hey! kids love stickers! For $6.99, this is a no-brainer for kids.

“Santa Spectacular” gets Waldo’s world all decked out for Christmas! There are snowmen, skis, toys, and much more from Waldo’s previous adventures all combined with unique new artwork to create a hide-and-seek holiday extravaganza. That’s right you are creating the hide-and-seek, this time around.  There are hundreds of stickers  inviting readers to create their own winter wonderland for Waldo. Martin Handford is the man behind the Waldo books since the beginning, so expect the treatment here.
