The Firefly 2 – If Q Made a Vaporizer, This Would Be It

Quitting your highly paid Silicon Valley job as a software developer for Apple might seem like insanity. But that’s just what Matt Williams did. Along with his partner, Sasha Robinson, who also packed in a highly-paid Silicon Valley tech job, Williams set out to change the vaping industry.

A High-End Sleek Design

They resolved to build a better vaporizer. Some would even call it the “Q” of vaporizers, after the James Bond tech geek who supplied the British super spy with all his gadgets. They wanted to do for smoking what MP3 players did for music.

They wanted to create a sleek, aesthetically sensual device that would fit in the palm of someone’s hand. There were all sorts of problems to solve: most importantly how to create an oven that would heat to 400 degrees without exploding in the user’s face.

By tinkering in Robinson’s basement with different materials for coils and power sources, the concept of the Firefly was born. And it was wildly successful. Released in 2014, it was soon on back order for 5,000 units.

Williams and Robinson, like many entrepreneurial inventors, didn’t rest on the laurels of the Firefly 1. They aimed to create a lighter, sleeker, and faster model than its predecessor. They also wanted this upgrade to handle cartridges of concentrates.

Their efforts gave birth to the Firefly 2.

Is Firefly 2 Worth the Price?

Many would balk at the $329.95 price tag, but that would be a mistake. The Firefly 2 is wholly worth the price. Once you delve into the features that the Firefly 2 packs, the price is oh-so-worth-it.

The Firefly 2 just might be the future of portable dry herb and concentrate vaporizers. The features that come with this handy little gadget are nothing to be sniffed at, even if you are a novice to vaporizing your herb.

Less than half the weight and 1/3 smaller than its predecessor this vape fits easily into a back pocket. Better yet, it heats in seconds, all while delivering consistent vapor quality. More importantly, it works via convection heating, which some argue is better than conductive heating. Proponents of convection heating say it results in a purer, better tasting inhale.

Explore The Firefly 2 Smart Features

The model charges in as little as 45 minutes. It also comes with 2 batteries, so you never have to worry about running out of power as long as you keep at least one charged. If you do need a recharge, a handy 3.0 USB cable that comes with the charging cradle can connect to any cell phone or tablet charger. Battery life is phenomenal as well.

Available for both iOS and Android phones, the optional (and free) Firefly app puts you in charge of the temperature. It allows you to choose from 6 preset heating profiles, depending on your preference and what you’re vaping. Several temperature settings are available. All are easily configured via your phone and the app and by pressing the side buttons. The app also provides a convenient way to get tech support when needed.

Need that hit and need it now for pain relief, frazzled nerves, or just to relax? No need to worry with the Firefly 2. It can heat up to 400 degrees in 5 seconds. Your preferred herb or concentrate only heats when you inhale, so there is no waste.

Even considering the $330 price tag, the Firefly 2 is well worth the price. Sleek, efficient, and providing quality vapor, it is sure to be on many a vaper’s wish list.

Book Review "Firefly: A Celebration (Anniversary Edition)"

Author: Joss Whedon
Hardcover: 544 pages
Publisher: Titan Books; Anv edition
Release Date: October 2, 2012

Our Score: 5 out of 5 stars

Is it possible to give six stars? Because this book is one of the finest I have received in a long time. “Firefly” is really such a phenomenon. The series was canceled before it even finished airing its first season, which is now over 10 years ago, yet this show is still more popular then ever. “Firefly: A Celebration”, the anniversary edition, was released last year to celebrate 10 years. I spent the better part of 5 months trying to get my hand on this book, but it was well worth the time and effort. If you are a fan of Joss Whedon or his work, then this book should be on your must-have list!

“Firefly: A Celebration” includes Titan Books’s three bestselling Firefly titles together in one place including “Firefly: The Official Companion- Volume 1 & 2” and “Firefly: Still Flying- A Celebration of Joss Whedon’s Acclaimed TV Series”. These books were only previously released in softcover, so this is a real treat but there are a few extras treats. This gigantic collection of Joss Whedon’s work now spans over 500 full color pages. Let me tell you full color doesn’t even give it justice. The pages are extremely hard stock and the images are beyond pristine. The presentation of the book is yet another marvel. It comes in a foil-stamped leather-effect binding, which is just so classy and earns it spot right on the top of my coffee table.

There are several in-depth interviews with Joss Whedon and the cast and crew. There are full and uncut shooting scripts from every episode in the series. There are also new stories from the writers of the original TV episodes, which is a must-read for any fans. Like I mentioned of course the images in the book are to die for. There are tons of rare photos including production art and behind-the-scenes. There is also a character profile for each main cast member from the show and also showcases on their props and costumes.

If all that above is not enough to make you run out to buy this book. There is also an exclusive bonus for this edition, including a pocket at the back of the book which contains 9 frameable photo prints of the cast. These are rare and previously unseen images, which makes is a main draw for this book as well. Lastly, there is a facsimile of one of the prop banknotes used in the show. I mean honestly, what more can you ask for? I was literally jumping around like a little kid with this book, but not for a long time since the sucker weighs like 5 lbs. Easily one of the most impressive books ever produced for a TV show. I commend Titan Books on another amazing release and thanks for helping keep “Firefly” alive for its fans.

Book Review “Firefly: The Official Companion- Volume Two”

Author: Joss Whedon
Paperback: 208 pages
Publisher: Titan Books
Release Date: May 8, 2007

Our Score: 5 out of 5 stars

This the second volume to the official companion of the cult classic TV series “Firefly”. Titan Books released Volume One in 2006 and it was a wonderful ode to the fans of this show.  The book follows in the first volumes path and continues to deliver “Firefly” to its fans.  It is jam packed with new unseen photos and great behind the scenes materials.

Continuing from the first volume, this contains the second half of an extended interview with Joss Whedon, as well as new exclusive interviews with the cast, writers and crewmembers.  In this volume, there are more full, uncut shooting scripts including “Jaynestown” (one of my favorites), “Out of Gas”, “Ariel”, “War Stories”, “Trash”, “The Message”, “Heart of Gold” and “Objects in Space”.  There are also sections on the shows out-of-the-world production design and visual effects. This is where the show really was way advance in its approach and it is great to see it showcased here.

Joss Whedon has really created one hell of a world surrounding this little show and this book manages to complete the circle.  This show is guaranteed to last many years into the future and until it is recreated in some sense.  This book is definitely a great tribute to the fans of the show and will leave them satisfied until then…or at least until the next volume “Firefly: Still Flying” is released.

Book Review “Firefly: The Official Companion- Volume One”

Author: Joss Whedon
Paperback: 176 pages
Publisher: Titan Books
Release Date: September 1, 2006

Our Score: 5 out of 5 stars

I have been a fan of the “Firefly” show since it originally briefly aired on Fox back in 2002. So you can imagine that the fact that they have an official companion to one of my favorites shows must be a thrill. Well the book definitely satisfies my “Firefly” lust. The book is jam packed with exclusive interviews with Joss Whedon, cast, writers and crewmembers. This book is definitely perfect for the mega fans aka the ‘Browncoats’.

There are full, uncut shooting scripts for the following episodes “Serenity”, “The Train Job”, “Bushwacked”, “Shindig”, “Safe” and “Our Mrs. Reynolds”. Each shooting script is backed with comments from both the cast and crews. This is something that is priceless if you are a fan of this series. Normally you would think…just shooting scripts? But this book takes that and builds on it to cater to the fans and deliver a great tribute to a great show.

There are many rare and previously unpublished photos from the show, as well as many great behind-the-scenes images. Also showcased in the book is the amazing production art from the show. One of the great parts of the series are their original props and costumes and this book has photos of both of them which have been shot specifically for this book. Fans of the show should definitely purchase this book if you don’t own it already.

Book Review “Firefly: Still Flying- A Celebration of Joss Whedon’s Acclaimed TV Series”

Author(s): Joss Whedon, Ben Edlund, Jane Espenson, Brett Matthews and  Jose Molina
Paperback: 160 pages
Publisher: Titan Books
Release Date: May 25, 2010

Our Score: 5 out of 5 stars

If you are fan of “Firefly”, then you don’t even need to read this review. You NEED to own this book. It is a great continuation of this very short-lived series. This is the third companion book release for the show. You can tell that this book is specifically aimed at the fans and made for the fans, though if you are not a fan then this book is definitely not for you.

This book celebrated the continued longevity that this show has endured over the years. It features many rare and never before seen images, as well as storyboards, production design art and behind the scenes photos of the cast and crew. If you are one of the “Browncoats”, then this book also has a great tribute to them. If all that isn’t enough for you there is more…there is NEW “Firefly” fiction from the original writers of the TV series. Included is “Fun with Dick and Jayne” written and drawn by Ben Edlund, “What Holds Us Down” by Jane Espenson, “Crystal” by Brett Matthews and “Take The Sky” by Jose Molina. These are super cool and worth it for the price of the book alone.

There is still more included in this book, with each character having their own section. Included are photos from the show accompanied by quotes about their own character. The photos in the book are very clear and extremely detailed. Like I said this is a great companion to the series but it is specifically for big fans or as we are known “Browncoats”.
