With almost six decades in the film business, it would be hard for Joe Alves to pick his favorite project. Alves, an Oscar nominated and BAFTA award winning production designer, is responsible for the look of such classic films as “Jaws,” “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” “Escape From New York” and many others. Recently Alves decided to offer to fans the opportunity to purchase autographed copies of some of his story boards from “Jaws” at his new site – www.joealvesmovieart.com
Alves is also offering an exclusive autographed compilation of some of his conceptions for “Close Encounters” as well as a composite of his visions of the ID from “Forbidden Planet,” one of the first Hollywood features Mr. Alves worked on.
With this year marking the 35th Anniversary of “Close Encounters” please take a moment to revisit my interview with Mr. Alves in which he discusses his amazing career.
Mr. Alves has graciously provided Media Mikes readers a chance to win an autographed “Jaws” illustration of their choice. All you have to do is let us know your favorite scene from “Jaws.” One random winner will be picked from all comments and that winner will be notified by email. Contest ends at Midnight EST on December 16.

the explosion of course, shark meat a flyin
when they cut open the shark in front of everyone & the exploding shark
The look on Quint’s face when he finally sees Bruce approaching the Orca.
For me it a close call but I love the scene where Brody says to Hooper “Well why don’t we start leading the shark into shore, instead of him leading us out to sea?” They both look at Quint then back at each other as though to say well I’m not asking him. Genius.
Forground my ass!!! Laugh every time :).
The scene in the estuary has haunted my mind ever since 1975. That ghostly shot of the shark silently gliding under Teddy Grossman and him getting pulled under is the stuff nightmares are made of.
My favorite scene from the movie is when the shark jumps onto the back of the Orca, and eats Quint. Awesome!!
It’s very difficult to select just one. My favorite scene has changed over the years, but I always come back to the Estuary Attack, with Ted Grossman being pulled down by Bruce. Now, years later, I learn that was shot by Speilberg himself, as he stood at the end of the pulpit on the Orca! He must have done that to get the foreground for scale!
Simply the greatest movie of all time.
Well to tell you the truth it is hard to even pick a good scene from any of the Jaws Series. I really did love to watch all of the Jaws Movies. I did like when Jaws came up to the Beach Shore & started eating, attacking people with all that blood & body parts everywhere. I really did enjoy Mr. Joe Alves Jaw Movies,as all of his movie scenes were great.
The “You’re gonna need a bigger boat” scene. Great reveal of the shark. Great performances. Great music.
When my friend Lee Fierro slaps Brody -FIERCE!
When the three of them are on the Orca discussing scars is absolutely my favorite scene of the movie….that and when the dead guy comes out in the water in the beginnning
The estuary scene. My god, the shark under the water is terrifying!
quint telling the story of the Indianapolis
The scene where Roy Scheider is throwing crap into the water and Jaws comes springing up while he’s looking the other way. Still freaks the crap out of me.
The EXPLOSION!
love them all but the one we need a bigger boat
The night search sequence and the discovery of Ben Gardner
“You’re gonna need a bigger boat” scene is my favorite. Beautiful artwork!!
When he says “We’re gonna need a bigger boat!”
Shark Cage Scene Is My Favorite
He doesn’t say “We’re gonna need a bigger boat!”
