8 of the Most Entertaining Home Security Systems from Movies

A need to protect our home is very normal and justified. Whether with installing a security system, alarms, additional locks, etc, it is something we do not take lightly.

In movies, on the other hand, things tend to go a little bit differently.

Without a doubt, those movies play on that notion of needing to protect ourselves, our family, and our homes.

Some of them do it in a comical, over-exaggerated way, some of them might toy with our fears and paranoia.

They might not always be completely realistic, but some of these security systems will entertain you and some of them just might make you think.

Panic Room

Home invasion is always a terrifying thought, so it is not surprising that it is a theme of so many movies.

A panic room seems like a reasonable (although probably an expensive) idea in order to keep everyone in your house safe right?

But it seems that even with a panic room, things can go very wrong.

For most of us, building a panic room might seem like an extreme measure, although no one would probably mind actually having one.

The Purge

It is a classic intrusion movie (or franchise to be exact). Here, the notion of a secure home is taken to the point of pure survival since the movie introduces us to the world in which all the crimes are legal for 12 hours.

So what happens when we face some of our worst fears? How do we defend ourselves?

Seems like with all the existing security systems that one could possibly obtain, it comes down to pure and primal survival instinct.

The Italian Job

Is there a more effective way of demonstrating the power (and flaws) of different security systems than a heist movie? Probably not.

We are talking about houses with a guard tower, professionally guarded by heavily armed men and attack dogs, safes, reinforced gates, online security systems, armored trucks, the whole deal.

But it seems like there is no security system that can’t be taken down if you are motivated enough (greed and revenge turned out to be quite the motivators in this case).

Bad Boys II

If you think about Tapia’s house, it seems like again we are talking about a strong defense system in a form of a tower and hired protection.

With a guard tower and an army of people carrying all sorts of automated weapons, this place seems like an unapproachable fortress.

In the end, though, detectives Burnett and Lowrey and a crew of highly trained SWAT members, CIA operatives, and DEA agents manage to completely destroy Tapia’s compound.

So, even an extremely guarded building like Tapia’s house wasn’t a match for the good guys.

What kind of a movie would it be otherwise? Would a real-life situation be played out differently?

We will leave that up to you.

All of the Batman Movies

With all the motion sensors, silent alarms, cameras, reinforced doors, and hidden passages and entrances (we all remember the one inside of a metal sarcophagus), the bat-cave is designed as a secret lair.

If you watched all of The Batman movies you might come to a similar conclusion – It does seem that considering everything that is at stake, Bruce Wayne (oops we revealed his identity) should have an even tighter security system in place.

In any case, surely most of us still thought about how great it would be to have a bat-cave within a huge mansion.

Well, until that day comes, maybe we could start by looking up some actual home security systems reviews.

Iron Man

We talked about DC, now let’s talk about Marvel (DC vs Marvel seems to be a constant debate so how can we mention one without mention the other).

What better way to protect your house than to be a tech genius/superhero Tony Stark. This billionaire, playboy, philanthropist was the largest weapons maker until he used that technology in order to build his first Iron Man suit.

Not a lot of people would dare to invade Iron Man’s place, especially knowing he has The Avengers on speed dial.

Yet in the third part of the franchise, with all the high-tech weaponry, and numerous Iron Man suits, Tony does fail to prevent his home from being blown up by a missile.

So maybe it is not quite the ultimate security system.

The Incredibles

There are not many security systems that are better than an omnidroid. It thinks for itself and is capable of withstanding almost everything. It is equipped with all sorts of powers than can serve for both defense and offense.

Although it seems you need to have quite villainous intentions in order to see an omnidroid as your go-to security system.

This kind of security system might not be quite possible in the real life, but it is surely entertaining on the screen.

Home Alone

Finally, let us not forget about the probably most iconic home security system in movie history.

It is of course the ingenuity of Kevin McCallister in one of our favorite childhood Christmas movies, Home alone.

With his wits and his sense of mischief, Kevin menages to outsmart two burglars (Harry and Marv) and protect his family home.

Seeing him make his elaborate plan of defense with toys and numerous household objects turning them into booby traps, entertained us all.

It is a kids movie that we all like to rewatch every now and then (especially around Christmas season).

In Conclusion

As you can see, all these security systems are not exactly applicable in the real world but they are absolutely fun to think about.

Whether they scare us, entertain us, or take us down the memory lane, you can always watch the same movies from a different perspective, having a particular aspect in mind.

Maybe it is time to watch (or rather rewatch) some of these movies.

Protect Your Home with Nest Cam Outdoor Security Camera

If you are a homeowner, security is always an important issue. If you are looking to get coverage of your home and not spend thousands of dollars. The Nest Cam Outdoor Security Camera. This new camera always you to have 24/7 live video with a 130° wide-angle view with an all-glass lens that will allow you to view your home in 1080p HD all day and night right from your phone. I am not an electrician or a handyman around the house but this is extremely easy to install and get yourself protected. Just mount the camera and go.

Besides just being a neat looking camera, the Nest Cam Outdoor allows you to get alerts and snapshots to your phone or email with a photo of the event. Since it is outdoor but rest assured, this product is weatherproof so rain and shine, this bad boy will work! You are also able to listen and talk back with the built-in speaker and microphone through the app.

With the holiday season coming around quickly, this is a great gift for friends and family and very reasonable priced also. The Nest Cam Outdoor also offers Nest Aware, which allows for continuous cloud recording as well as the ability to create activity zones for more precise alerts. And you even get a trial of this with your purchase.

If you are looking to compare this product to other cameras, you will find that most other outdoor cameras will have limited streaming compatibility since they most rely on battery power. Some also have local storage, so if the camera is stolen the footage is gone also. Our neighborhood recently had issues with bicycles being taken right from in front of their house and this could have been avoided or at least captured with the assistance of a outdoor camera like Nest.

Before coming to the conclusion of the Nest Cam Outdoor, I have tried numerous other products in Ring Doorbell and I have never had such an easy time overall from the moment I opened the box until it was fully operational. I wish it could always be this issue with these products. I am also a big user of the Amazon Echo for voice activation and since it is already working with Nest’s other product it might not be before long that we would be able to interact with the Nest Cam as well. Highly recommend this for this holiday season. I have a feeling that it is going to be a hot item for sure.

CD Review: Thomas Nicholas Band “Security [EP]”

Thomas Nicholas Band
Security [EP]
Tracks: 4
Length: 13 minutes
Produced by Thomas Nicholas & Matt Kennedy

Our Score: 5 out of 5 stars

Last summer, I caught a concert with Thomas Ian Nicholas here in Orlando, FL and being a fan of his earlier four albums, I remember hearing a few amazing new songs that were not yet released. During the show, Thom discussed exploring a more “indie rock” sound with these new songs and I have to admit, they are probably some of his best songs. Along with Thom on this album are three of the original members of The Graduate including Matt Kennedy, Tim Moore & Jared Wuestenberg. I hope Thom continues to explore this genre because these songs are absolutely amazing.

These songs were written by Thom and Caleb Turman (from the band TEAM*) and produced by Thom and Matt (from The Graduate). There are four tracks on this EP and each song is better than the one before it. “Security” is one hell of a catchy, powerful and all around fun as hell song. I can see this being a huge hit on the radio! I challenge you to listen to this song and not have it stuck in your head for days (especially the chorus). “Don’t Stop” has this real indie feel and features some great guitar work. Having heard these songs a few times live, they are quite different (but not in a bad way at all).

“Terrified” is my wife’s favorite track. This was the song that stuck out the most when we heard it live last summer. This track sounds the most different live than the produced studio version, in my opinion. I personally prefer it live but I still really dig this song since it is jam packed with energy. The last track “It’s Over” is a track that has really grown on me since first hearing it. After listening to it a few times, I love the constant beat behind it and the overall tone of the track. My main issue with this EP overall is the fact that it is an EP, I want more songs and I can’t wait to see what Thom and his band comes up with next.

“SECURITY EP” is now available on iTunes (for ONLY $3.96)
You can also order a CD directly from the band’s webstore.
