Founding KISS guitarist and Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame member Ace Frehley has released the music video for “Mission to Mars.”

The music video is entirely animated by artist Christopher Fequiere, a first for Frehley. Chock full of KISS fandom easter eggs, this video is the second music video that we’ve seen from the Spaceman LP. “Mission to Mars” follows the release of “Rockin’ With The Boys” that was released last year.
Ace Frehley released Spaceman last year via Entertainment One (eOne) to much critical praise such as Associated Press claiming that Frehley “oozes classic rock style and six-string chops that sound as good today as they did in 1975.” Spaceman debuted at #5 Rock, #5 Vinyl and #9 on Billboard’s Current Album Sales Charts and has gone on to sell more than 10,000 pieces of vinyl alone.

“No need to worry, I’ll be home soon, ’cause I’m rockin’ with the boys,” Frehley sings on“Rockin’ With the Boys,” which tells the tale of life on the road. Ace says he wrote the original version of the song back in KISS’s heyday in the ’70s. Both “Rockin With The Boys” and “Bronx Boy” are available on all streaming platforms today and are iTunes instant grat tracks for fans who preorder the album.

In addition to Ace’s distinctive guitar sound on each track, Ace played bass on all of the songs on Spaceman except for two.  The listener might recognize the mighty dinosaur growl of a bass tone belonging to Gene Simmons on the album opener, “Without You I’m Nothing,” which Gene also co-wrote,  and “Your Wish Is My Command.” Both songs were recorded at Frehley’s home studio in Rancho Santa Fe, California.

Ace’s reconnection with Simmons and fellow KISS vocalist-guitarist Paul Stanley (who joined Ace on a cover of Free’s “Fire and Water” for 2016’s covers LP Origins, Vol. 1) might be chalked up to the fact that Frehley has been sober for more than a decade (he celebrates 12 years of sobriety in September). Ace’s clean living no doubt has a lot to do with his productive streak, which began with the release of his top 20 Anomaly album in 2009.
Spaceman (a title suggested by Simmons, himself) serves as the first collection of all new Frehley-penned material since 2014’s Space Invader, which debuted at #9 on the Top 200 Chart. The LP scored the highest charting position of any former or current  KISS band member ever and marked Frehley’s first return to the Top 10 since KISS’s 1998 Psycho Circus reunion album.

Space Invader received praise from critics. Rolling Stone wrote, “Gene Simmons has claimed Ace Frehley doesn’t deserve to wear Kiss’ Kabuki clown paint, but the former Spaceman’s first solo LP in five years says otherwise,” while Associated Press hailed, “…the original Kiss lead guitarist has recorded his best solo album since his groundbreaking self-titled album in 1978.”

Widely known as the original “Space Ace” and founding guitarist for 16 cumulative years (over 2 tenures) of the multi-platinum selling rock band KISS, Frehley is demonstrably the most popular original member. In addition to having the best-selling solo album career (vintage or current) among the original foursome, Frehley’s self-titled Ace Frehley, released in 1978, went on to sell over one million copies, producing the only Top 40 single, “New York Groove,” from any of the legendary KISS solo albums (peaking at #13).

Blu-ray Review “National Geographic: Mars”

Number of discs: 3
Studio: 20th Century Fox
Release Date: April 11, 2017
Run Time: 328 minutes

Series: 4 out of 5 stars
Blu-ray: 4 out of 5 stars
Extras: 3.5 out of 5 stars

“Mars” is not just another sci-fi movie, it is a TV mini-series, which aired on the National Geographic Channel. It is also not another documentary series either, which makes it kinda unique and interesting! First of all it is from executive producers Brian Grazer & Ron Howard, so right there we have something special. “Mars” is a docudrama. It mixes dramatic TV story line perfectly with real-life interviews and it absolutely stunning to look at. We want more shows like this National Geographic!

Official Premise: MARS follows a crew of courageous international astronauts on its exhilarating maiden voyage to Mars and quest to colonize the fourth planet from the sun. In a unique blend of scripted drama intermixed with documentary sequences and feature-film-caliber visual effects, the series presents what the greatest minds in space exploration are doing to make traveling to Mars a reality, featuring Big Thinkers like Elon Musk, Neil deGrasse Tyson and Stephen Petranek.

The 1080p transfer looks amazing with the added CG elements from this series. The DTS-Master Audio 5.1 track sounds greet with the dramatic tone added in and effects are well balanced. The special features are solid. There is a great behind-the-scenes look called “Making Mars”, which clocks in at over 45 minutes. “Before Mars – A Prequel” gives some great backstory to the series and runs over 30 minutes. Then there are some more behind-the-scenes looks and interviews with Ron Howard and other cast and crew. Definitely worth watching!

“Zombie Cats from Mars” Production Announcement, Trailer and First Image!

Early 2015 release planned for new horror starring Portlandia’s Ernest Adams

BURBANK, CALIFORNIA : MWB3 Problems has laid out the galactic kitty-litter for its upcoming horror-comedy Zombie Cats from Mars. Directed by Montetré (Holed Up) and written by Ryan Cloutier, the ‘catastrophe’ – which came together thanks to a successful crowd-funding campaign on Kickstarter – is due for release early this year.

Portlandia’s Ernest Adams stars alongside Jonah Kersey, Stephanie Leet, Bransen Sands Koehler, Julie Marie Howard, and Edward Kopf in fun horror romp that’s part Gremlins, part Critters.

Since it’s a movie about cats, writer and producer Cloutier furnished the support roles with furrier thesps. Marci Koski, an animal behavior specialist and volunteer with Furry Friends, supplied animal talent for the film.

The story centers on Billy, an effeminate fan of vintage science fiction action thrillers. His only friend is Cameron, a nerdy film buff who tries to boost his confidence whenever he can. After seeing a UFO land, Billy retreats into his head, imagining that aliens are taking over the town. Cameron is skeptical, as is the rest of the town. Meanwhile, people are starting to die. First, the reclusive cat lady Percis is discovered mutilated by Lester, the church -‐going husband of Carolyn, Percis’s depressed caretaker. Random deaths soon follow, first a jogger, and then a janitor at the Carbonics Warehouse. A pair of news reporters shares this information with the public while the Detective and his Chief try to solve the killings. Meanwhile, the killings continue. Billy, wrapped up in a world of fiction, discovers a story in which Martian Cats land on Earth and inflict horror upon the town. Confident that the killings are the result of the UFO delivering alien cats, he sets off on his own superhero mission to save the town.

Blu-ray Review “Veronica Mars: The Movie”

Starring: Kristen Bell, Krysten Ritter, Jason Dohring, Enrico Colantoni, Ryan Hansen, Chris Lowell
Director: Rob Thomas
Rated: PG-13 (Parental Guidance Suggested)
Studio: Warner Home Video
Release Date: May 6, 2014
Run Time: 107 minutes

Film: 4 out of 5 stars
Extras: 3.5 out of 5 stars

“Veronica Mars” is a cult favorite TV series that premiered in 2004, ran for three seasons and then was canceled in 2007. The show has built up quite the following over the last few years and finally a Kickstarter campaign was started to get a feature film made. Well, the campaign was record-breaking success raising $5.7 million from 90,000+ backers. The film picks up several years after the events of the TV series and features the return of original cast members including Kristen Bell, Enrico Colantoni, Jason Dohring, Percy Daggs III, Tina Majorino, Krysten Ritter, Ryan Hansen, Francis Capra and Chris Lowell. This is a really a project for the fans of the show. If you are a fan of the show, then this is a must watch. If you have never heard of “Veronica Mars”, you are still able to pick up and watch it and then binge the seasons afterwards. Plus how adorable is Kristen Bell, right?

Official Premise: Veronica Mars (Bell) has put Neptune and her amateur sleuthing days behind her on the eve of graduating law school. While interviewing at high-end law firms, Veronica gets a call from her ex-boyfriend Logan (Dohring) who has been accused of murder. Veronica heads back to Neptune just to help Logan find an attorney, but when things don’t seem right with how Logan’s case is perceived and handled, Veronica finds herself being pulled back into a life she thought she had left behind.

Warner Bros is delivering this film as a combo pack with the Blu-ray and an Ultraviolet Digital Copy for those who didn’t get it with the Kickstarter backing. This film made $3.5 million in theaters, so it wasn’t a smash hit but for a film that was release same day on VOD, I think that is pretty damn amazing. I don’t know if that means that we are going to be seeing a sequel anytime soon but I guess that will depends on the Blu-ray sales, so marshmallows be sure to pick up your copy first thing on May 6th. The 1080p transfer looks solid and is well shot. It packs the required neo-noir detective feel to it and I am sure that fans will dig that as well. The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1  track works well with the film’s music and score.

In terms of special features, again it is definitely all for the fans. Sticking with that theme is “By The Fans: The Making of the Veronica Mars Movie” focuses on how the film got made and a behind-the-scenes look into the making of it. There are some Deleted Scenes and a very funny Gag Reel. Lastly there is a six part featurette called “More On-Set Fun”. which dives into the shooting and all the crazy antics from the cast/crew, including “Welcome to Keith Mars Investigation”; “Game Show with Kristen Bell and Chris Lowell”; “On Set with Max Greenfield”; “Veronica Mars’ Backers”; “It’s Not All About You, Monkey” and “Young Veronica”. The real let down for me is no commentary track, I just seeing that being a no-brainer for this type of films as fans would no question love that extra look into the production but I could be wrong.

3D Blu-Ray Review “Mars Needs Moms”

Directed by: Simon Wells
Starring: Seth Green, Tom Everett Scott, Joan Cusack, Elisabeth Harnois, Dan Fogler, Dee Bradley Baker and Mindy Sterling
Distributed by: Walt Disney Pictures
Rated PG
Running Time: 98 minutes

3D Film: 2.5 out of 5 stars
Extras: 3 out of 5 stars

When I first saw “Mars Needs Moms”, I was excited I see Robert Zemeckis’s performance-capture mixed with Disney, but the film was disappointing. Watching it on 3D Blu-Ray, I was definitely willing to give the film a second chance. Unfortuntely I really didn’t enjoy it anymore than the first time. The 3D effects were great but I still couldn’t get over the bland story and character development. I think I am also hesitant for this film especially since it is primary reason for the closing of ImageMovers Digital, which created gems like “A Christmas Carol” and “The Polar Express”. What the film excels in is the picture quality and sound.  Disney always delivers the best 1080p video and 7.1 surround sound, this also really adds to the 3D effects.  Overall though this film simply doesn’t have the same feel as those other films. Most of today’s animated films have something for the adults, this film plays too stupid for adults and its barely enough for kids to enjoy.

We follow nine year-old Milo (Seth Green) as he tries to rescue his mom (Joan Cusack) who is kidnapped by Martians. The martians need moms to help raise there kids. While trying to save his mom, he get taken to Mars with her. He meets Gribble (Dan Fogler) and an alien named Ki (Elisabeth Harnois) and together they help him rescue his mom. The aliens are annoying and hard to take in large doses.

The extras on this film is really where this disc shines. Besides packing the Blu-ray 3D(TM) Feature Film with also features the Blu-ray(TM) Feature Film, DVD Feature Film and a Digital Copy Of Feature Film. The feature “Fun With Seth” is a featurette showcasing the on-set antics Of Seth Green And Dan Fogler. I enjoyed this since I could imagine how much fun it was to do the performance capture. The alternate & deleted scenes, are exclusive to 3D Blu-Ray, and even include some complete 3D scenes. Exclusive to Blu-ray disc are an extended opening and deleted scenes. One of my favorite features is “Life On Mars”, which shows the film in full motion-capture experience With audio commentary. The last is my least favorite called “Martian 101”, which is speech lessons to speak Martian. Overall the kids will might enjoy it and parents still will not.
