SDCC 2023: More Hurdles to Overcome

Last year I wrote the following in my post-San Diego Comic Con 2022 write up, “Here at MediaMikes, we’re fairly confident SDCC 2023 will be better.” I’m glad I didn’t say that we’re fairly confident things will get back to a chaotic normal. SDCC 2023 could be summarized as last-minute disorganized chaos. From 2020-2022, it was the pandemic that rattled things in San Diego, but now it’s the strike.

First off, we’re not blaming the writers or actors. What they’re doing is noble and they deserve the pay and respect that they’re demanding. We even got to talk to a few striking writers and actors at SDCC and they expressed their utmost appreciation and admiration for the convention. But what that did to the studios attending, as well as the fans attending, is what really caused some of the more massive headaches at this year’s iteration of SDCC. I don’t want this to be a negative piece, so I’ll start with some of the positives we witnessed at SDCC.

Because the infamous Hall H didn’t have Marvel or big names, a lot of the people who would most likely be spending their weekend in line for Hall H had plenty of time to visit a busy exhibit floor, which we assumed translated to more cash for those selling their merchandise; and there was plenty to go around. From the usual comics and art, we saw a fascinating array of goods directed at all nerds, including those who aren’t. If those Hall H line people weren’t going to the sales floor, they were going to smaller panels where some much deserved unknowns got some well-deserved attention. In the few smaller panels we attended, we definitely noticed rooms filling to capacity which meant more eyeballs on small studios and products. We think that’s great for independent artists and others who were still able to attend.

The lack of Hall H luster also meant that SDCC offsites were busier. Some of the studios and entities really stepped up their game this year with free goodies that were worth their weight (and wait) in gold. For instance, “Only Murders in the Building” had fans solving puzzles for Selena Gomez make-up products (which aren’t cheap) while Paramount+ showcased a wide variety of their programs with goods along-the-way, including an actual “Good Burger,” spray-on tattoos, and “1923” photo ops. For Trekkies, you also got your chance to sit in THE captain’s chair. Hulu also managed to hand-out boxes of TV show pins that delighted hardcore fans of “Futurama,” “Solar Opposites,” and other animated shows. As for the best offsite, it really goes to “Interview with the Vampire,” by AMC+. The immersive offsite offered food, drink, goodies, posters and a near bite on the neck.

Unfortunately though, not all that glitters is gold. A24 may have a mess on its hands because of its “Talk to Me” screening. Nothing against the directors or actors, but A24 really bungled the secret screening, leaving hundreds and hundreds of upset fans, some of whom had waited all day to see the movie. While A24 movies may be fantastic, their PR and handling of the screenings are abysmal. That being said, the people behind SDCC have plenty of blame as well. Because of the strike, the biggest name attending this year was Jamie Lee Curtis who was touting her new comic book. Instead of moving her to Hall H, they kept her in a significantly smaller room which led to one of the longest lines of the entire con. They also have failed to bring back one vital thing for those who stand and walk all day, carpet. The floors would have been less merciful if fans got to actually stand on something that wasn’t concrete.

All in all, SDCC continues to be my geeky love/hate relationship. While I look forward to it every year and get excited with each passing day, the hate in the relationship sometimes boils over during or after the convention itself. As I become a hardened con goer, I’ve learned to pick and choose my battles every year. Even though I still go home licking my wounds, I also go home with fond memories and goodies. So even though my feet are sore, my skin is burnt and at times I found myself looking from the outside in on various things I wanted to attend, SDCC remains a flawed geek mecca. As for next year…let’s just hope the old phrase, “bad things come in threes,” doesn’t come to fruition for SDCC 2024.

Our Score 4 out of 5 stars

Donner continues bringing affordable, high quality music products to the consumer market and their latest offering, the Mamp5 Stereo Amplifier/Receiver is no exception. The great sounding, powerful amplifier/receiver combo will bring your home theater system to a whole new level. With a whopping peak power rating of 440 watts (100W x 4) which can be split across 4 independently controlled channels the compact unit is capable of powering 4 groups of 8 speakers giving users plenty of connectivity options. The various input modes allow users to connect via SD card, USB, RCA and ECHO Microphone. Each input utilizes the receivers bass and treble features and for the karaoke fans you have a separate microphone volume control which will certainly come in handy at that next house party.

Where I found the Mamp5 to really shine was through its Bluetooth 5.0 connection and HD Screen. The most recent Bluetooth system allowed for a quick and stable connection that even as I moved through my house provide tremendous clarity and zero drop issues. The HD LED display was bright and easy to read from across the room as the subtle blue lighting really popped and made switching between the connections and adjustments quite easy no matter if you were up close or further away.

The only negative I found with this unit was the included wireless remote. The remote is quite small and pretty flimsy. Yes the feature is a nice add however it just doesn’t match up to the system which over all is built quite well. That aside with a price tag of just $159.99 the Donner Mamp5 Amplifier/Receiver is a great addition or upgrade to any home theater/stereo system that won’t break the bank.

Panic Fest 2023 Review

Even before the start of this year’s Panic Fest, “Mayhem” director Joe Lynch was salivating all over social media about Panic Fest, dubbing it one of his favorite film festivals. So we’re now at the point where you don’t have to take my word for it. You would probably get the same reaction from several other actors and directors who’ve attended over the years, but let me reiterate that if you’re in the vicinity of the Screenland Armour in North Kansas City, you should check out Panic Fest. The horror festival gem of the Midwest has slowly been building an audience, of normies like me, horror aficionados, celebrities and everyone in between, and if 2023 was any indication, it’ll continue to grow without losing its indie luster.

Panic Fest kicked off Thursday, April 13, with THE Nicolas Cage as Dracula in “Renfield,” which may have been one of the rowdiest and off-the-wall screenings in America. Slipping into Friday was what people have come to expect, low budget films with a lot to say, like “Give Me an A.” I’m sure the opening five minutes would surely infuriate any self-described “pro-lifer.” This was followed by a screening of Ted Geoghegan’s new film, “Brooklyn 45,” with Ted in attendance. Friday night ended with jam packed screenings of “Sisu” and “Evil Dead Rise,” both crowd pleasers. I can now also brag that I watched the new “Evil Dead” with Barbara Crampton in attendance. Sure we weren’t sitting anywhere near each other, or even in the same row, but I won’t pass up a mild brag.

Saturday may have been the big enchilada as filmmakers and their cast/crew were in attendance for several screenings throughout the day, including “Abuprtio” and “Blue Hour.” Things really kicked off when “Black Mold” had its world premiere with about two dozen members of the cast and crew in attendance. Not to be out done, Joe Lynch led a double feature of films starring Barbara Crampton, “From Beyond” and “We Are Still Here.” Saturday also saw the world premiere of “Bury the Bride,” a film that may just put Spider One on the map once it hits Tubi next month. If you can predict the twist in the film with absolute certainty, props to you.

While the pandemic is fading into the rearview mirror, the effects lingered throughout some of the films. “Trader,” one of my favorites of the fest, was a wild single setting ride, and it wasn’t alone. A lot of films utilized minimal crews, minimal spaces and worked with minimal time. “Invoking Yell,” which I wasn’t too fond of, was impressively shot in 72 hours while “Bury the Bride” managed to fit its insanity in a week of shooting. Even with packed screenings, packed lobbies, and long lines, Panic Fest has yet to lose its repertory cinema charm, highlighting some of the best indie horrors on the festival circuit and not shying away from some bizarre offerings like “Razzennest” and “Trim Season.”

The mix of mainstream and low budget horror has been a staple of Panic Fest, but this year seemed to be another peak scaled by the founders of the genre festival. Co-founders Adam Roberts and Tim Canton talked before nearly every film, talking about where they saw it or how they heard about it, at times, hyping up the crowd while equally showcasing their love of the genre and how much effort goes on throughout the year to get content to Panic Fest. While the festival still boasts an impressive line-up in-person, it also offers an impressive line-up of virtual films, which I am still binging through. While I may still be tired and struggling to focus at work, I can at least say the exhaustion and sleep deprivation was well worth it because Panic Fest remains the best horror fest in the Midwest.

Keeping Your Most Precious Photos Safe and Sound

For all of us who take pride in our photographs, having a reliable method for storage and preservation is essential. But what if you have photos that are irreplaceable—from childhood memories of your first day at school to family vacations spanning generations?

In this blog post, we’ll dive deep into the benefits of using cardstock and how it can help protect your treasured memories and keep them looking as good as new! So read on to learn more about the power of cardstock!

Understanding the Benefits of Cardstock

Cardstock, often called cover stock, is a thick paper with many artistic and practical purposes. For lasting, high-quality papers and crafts, cardstock advantages must be understood. Moreover, because of its durability, it is perfect for printing business cards and invitations. It is flexible for scrapbooking and cardmaking since it comes in many colors and textures.

How to Properly Handle and Store Cardstock

Cardstock is useful for a wide range of projects, but it needs to be handled and stored correctly to last as long as possible. First and foremost, it’s best to avoid bending or creasing the cardstock, as this can weaken it over time. When storing it, keep it in a dry, cool place to prevent moisture damage.

Tips for Printing Professional-Quality Photos on Cardstock

When it comes to printing photos on cardstock, there are a few tips and tricks that can ensure you get the professional quality you’re looking for. First, make sure your printer is set to the highest quality settings and that you’re using the appropriate paper type. Avoid handling the cardstock too much before printing, as this can cause smudging.

If you’re using an inkjet printer, consider allowing the ink to dry overnight before handling the prints. Adjusting the brightness and contrast of your photos ahead of time can also help make sure the colors are right and keep your prints from looking washed out.

Different Kinds of Cardstock and Which Is Best for Your Photos

Choosing the right cardstock is important if we want to keep our memories alive through printed photos. There are several different kinds available, each with its own unique qualities.

For example, matte cardstock looks more professional and cuts down on glare, while glossy cardstock makes colors look more vivid and gives them a shiny sheen. Then there’s luster cardstock, which gives a subtle balance between the two.

However, the best option for your photos largely depends on your personal preferences and how you plan to use them. If you’re aiming for long-lasting durability and sharpness, acid-free cardstock is the way to go.

No matter which kind you choose, though, using cardstock will make sure that your photos will last and be treasured for generations to come.

Preserving Your Most Treasured Memories with Cardstock

There are certain moments in life that we never want to forget. Maybe it’s the day you graduated from college, the day you got married, or the day your child was born. These memories are precious and deserve to be preserved in a special way. That’s where cardstock comes in.

By creating scrapbook pages or memory books with beautiful cardstock, you can capture these important moments and hold onto them forever. The sturdiness of cardstock ensures that your creations will last for years to come, allowing you to revisit those cherished memories whenever you want.

Creating a Timeless Photo Album with Cardstock

We all love looking back at old photos and reminiscing about the memories they hold. But sometimes, those precious pictures get lost in the shuffle or forgotten on a computer drive. That’s where a timeless photo album made with cardstock comes in handy. Not only is it a great way to preserve and display your favorite memories, but it also adds a personal touch and allows for customization. With the versatile nature of cardstock, you can choose from a variety of colors and textures to create a unique album that reflects your style. Plus, the durability of cardstock ensures that your album will stand the test of time and remain a cherished keepsake for years to come.

In conclusion, cardstock provides a timeless, professional quality for preserving your treasured memories. With subtle textures and colors, as well as various sizes, thicknesses, and finishes, photo printing on cardstock can be tailored to any preference.

Whether you are creating a timeless photo album or making one-of-a-kind cards and invitations, understanding the benefits and proper handling of cardstock ensures that your once-in-a-lifetime photos will look their absolute best. Subsequent generations will continue to admire your images through the lifecycle of cardstock when stored properly, allowing years of joy and lasting memories.

MEGACON Orlando 2023 Event Wrap Up

I have attended MEGACON nearly every year since 2010. It is literally one of the biggest fan conventions out there. They cover everything from comics, anime, sci-fi, horror, animation, gaming, & more. It is truly one of my favorite events each year. This year the show took place on Thursday March 30th and ran through Sunday April 2nd. My favorite day to go was Friday, it was busy but also not insane like Saturday usually is. This year, the wife and I even dressed up as a steampunk version of Disney’s Figment and his Dreamfinder. We ended up taking over 35 photos with other fans that stopped us along the way. It was a ton of fun. I have never dressed up for a convention before and it will not be the last time.

The highlight of the convention had to be some of the special events that took place including the Studio Ghibli VIP experience with Hirokatsu Kihara, former Chief Production Officer at Studio Ghibli, who was there to show key pieces of his collection and also to celebrate 35th anniversary this year: My Neighbor Totoro. This was a rare U.S. appearance and one not to miss. If you are a comic fan, Saturday was lit with the 25th anniversary of 300, featuring the man himself Frank Miller, doing a special panel as he discusses the ideas, art, and history that inspired the legendary comic, 300.

Friday was on fire with the following celebrity talent: Cerina Vincent (POWER RANGERS: LOST GALAXY, CABIN FEVER), Greg Sestero (THE ROOM), Sam Raimi (DIRECTOR OF EVIL DEAD AND SPIDER-MAN TRILOGIES), Anthony Michael Hall (JOHN HUGHES’ FILMS, THE DEAD ZONE), Carl Weathers (THE MANDALORIAN, ROCKY), Mercedes Varnado (THE MANDALORIAN, WWE’s SASHA BANKS), Sonequa Martin-Green (STAR TREK: DISCOVERY), COBRA KAI was represented with Ralph Macchio, William Zabka and Martin Kove and more, Henry Winkler (HAPPY DAYS), Tara Strong (TEEN TITANS GO!, MY LITTLE PONY) and Charles Martinet (VOICE OF MARIO)

Saturday brought some overwelming talent including Hayden Christensen (STAR WARS), Rosario Dawson (CLERKS II, AHSOKA), James McAvoy (X-MEN), Chevy Chase (NATIONAL LAMPOON SERIES), John Cleese (MONTY PYTHON), Zachary Levi (SHAZAM), Charlie Cox (DAREDEVIL), Steve Burns (BLUES CLUES), SCREAM cast includes Skeet Ulrich, Jamie Kennedy, Neve Campbell, Matthew Lillard, Mark-Paul Gosselaar (SAVED BY THE BELL), Giancarlo Esposito (THE MANDALORIAN, BREAKING BAD) and Vincent D’Onofrio (FULL METAL JACKET, DAREDEVIL)

If you were a anime fan, MEGACON, hooked you up solid with an outrageous guest list including
Christopher Sabat (DRAGON BALL Z, MY HERO ACADEMIA), Zach Aguilar (DEMON SLAYER), Aleks Le (DEMON SLAYER), Abby Trott (DEMON SLAYER), Justin Briner (MY HERO ACADEMIA) and Colleen Clinkenbeard (ONE PIECE, MY HERO ACADEMIA).

Besides just celebrities signing, there is SO MUCH MORE to the convention including a cosplay competition and endless supply of panels and workshops. There is a row of tattoo artists doing their thing as well as Artist Alley featuring Comic Legends, Pro Comic Book artists, and writers. Are you a video game fan? They have a tournament to battle it out and test your skills against other fans. If you are a D&D fan, you can roll for initiative and take part in play sessions.

Honestly, one of the best parts are MEGACON is that it is a family convention. They have activities and attractions for the whole family. I loved walking around and see groups of families all dressed up in costumes. There is so much for a family to do at a show like this. They even have an opportunity to take part in workshops & panels just for kids. Not to mention there is ten of thousands of square feet of shopping for the whole family.

The fun doesn’t end when the convention is over though, they have a ton of great after hours content to enjoy for those visiting. First up there was Karaoke with Emily Swallow (THE MANDALORIAN) kicking off things on Friday night. Also on Friday there was a special, interactive screening of THE ROOM, the best bad movie ever made with Greg Sestero, the actor who plays Mark, doing a live Q&A. That’s just the beginning with Anime After Dark featuring special Cosplay guests, amazing DJs like DJ Awesomeus Prime and DJ Kino, plus Anime, electronic, and hip-hop music all night.

Overall, I think it was a solid weekend, jam packed with tons of great content for everyone. MEGACON definitely stepped it up this year. Everything was easily down from the parking, which they handled very well to the registration, which was incredibly easy. I cannot wait till next year on February 1st through the 4th for the 2024 MEGACON convention! I will be first in line for sure!

Book Review: The Queen’s Gambit

You’ve probably heard of The Queen’s Gambit, Netflix’s limited series from the minds of Scott Frank and Allan Scott. It is one of the most successful offerings on the platform ever and was the streaming giant’s top program in 63 countries within a month of its release according to Yahoo.

Did you know, though, that the series starring Anya Taylor-Joy as a precocious chess player was based on a novel of the same name? The 1983 offering from Walter Tevis could be considered a must-read for anyone who enjoyed the show.

Why Should You Read the Book?

You may think that, because there’s a series out already, there’s no need to read the original text now. Indeed, many people have made the false assumption that books are on the way out because of the rise of streaming platforms. In fact, it’s the opposite that’s true. According to PIA’s study, there was a 25 per cent increase in the number of people reading books in the USA in 2020. The eBook market exploded and raked in more than $1 billion. Those figures highlight that more people are reading than ever, and social media influencers have been part of that push.

However, series could also be playing a part in helping people discover books. With many offerings, like The Queen’s Gambit, being inspired by fiction, fans of the shows may search out the books and new casino no deposit 2023 free money germany to get more detail about the story.

If you loved The Queen’s Gambit series, you will most likely enjoy the book. While the Netflix offering was a faithful adaptation, Tevis’s novel provides a much greater amount of depth around the characters. The fact that it has sold more than 1.5 million copies and has been translated into over 30 languages highlights just how popular it is.

What Makes The Queen’s Gambit a Chess Player’s Bible?

The Queen’s Gambit will appeal to players and non-players of chess alike, thanks to the way Tevis manages to cleverly make the game’s strategies accessible to all readers. However, the book will be particularly appealing to people who’ve played the game before. Indeed, some chess players may consider it to be a bible for the game.

An article in Medium describes The Queen’s Gambit as a “fast-paced and captivating tale,” and emphasizes how it can be an exciting read for all. It also features details about many of the intricacies of the game, however, and chess players can use it as a resource to advise them on their own methods.

Despite being a fictional tale, The Queen’s Gambit’s depiction of a chess player’s rise to greatness can also serve as inspiration. It can spur chess players to enter more tournaments

and try to reach the top. In addition to that, it can motivate people in other fields to try to be the best they can possibly be.

The Queen’s Gambit may have been written forty years ago, but it has stood the test of time. For anyone who has seen the series, it is essential reading. It could also be an excellent text for aspiring chess players to consume

Upcoming TV Shows To Get Excited About In 2023

HBO’s adaptation of The Last of Us has taken over the TV world. The show has gone viral on almost every social media platform, from TikTok and Instagram to Twitter, and ratings have steadily increased since the show debuted on January 15, 2023. The series has received critical acclaim, with The Ringer concluding that the game adaptation curse has ended thanks to it. The Last of Us was one of the first new shows released this year, and it’s making many people feel optimistic about the direction of the TV industry in 2023.

Viral Sensations

Over the last three years, several shows have reached viral status, much like The Last of Us. In 2020, it was Tiger King and Outer Banks. In 2021, it was Squid Game, and last year, according to this ExpressVPN article on streaming in 2022, it was Stranger Things, Ozark, and Wednesday. To say television has been on an upward trend is an understatement, and many titles are expected to continue this growth in 2023. Below are a few upcoming TV shows to look forward to this year.

Daisy Jones & The Six

Daily Jones & The Six is an upcoming American miniseries that will be released on Amazon Prime on March 3, 2023. It is based on the novel of the same name by Taylor Jenkins Reid, and it follows a rock band in the 1970s as they navigate stardom in Los Angeles. The show is fictional and inspired by the author’s childhood experience watching Fleetwood Mac performances, but it will use a documentary style to present the story. The main cast includes Riley Keough (who played Marie Currie in the 2010 biopic The Runways), Camila Morrone, and Sam Claflin.

Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies

Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies is a Paramount+ musical and romantic comedy series based on the Grease musical by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. It will premiere on April 6, 2023. The show is a prequel to the two Grease films and will take place four years before the first movie’s events. It will follow a group of Rydell High students who become the founding members of the iconic Pink Ladies clique.

Yellowjackets (Season 2)

After its debut in November 2021, the American thriller drama series Yellowjackets received critical acclaim and several accolades, including seven Emmy Awards nominations. To no surprise, the show was renewed for a second season, which will premiere on March 26, 2023, on Showtime. The show’s first season follows a New Jersey girls’ football team who crash in the Ontario wilderness after flying to Seattle for a tournament. The group are stranded for 19 months, and the second season will follow their continued survival in the wilderness but also jump forward to their current lives in 2021.

The quality of television comes and goes, whether it’s the acting or the writing. The CW’s Riverdale is one example of this as Collider state that Riverdale has several abandoned subplots, and many others have said it’s one of the worst-written TV shows in years. But the future of television is once again looking bright as we’re getting more and more impressive stories and performances on our screens. Considering it’s still early in 2023 and many titles are still being released, television fans are in for a treat this year.

5 Best Rivers For Watersports In Canada

Although Canada has long been a popular tourist destination due to its beautiful landscapes and vibrant cities, it is quickly becoming a hotspot for those interested in water sports. If you’re looking for ideas on where to go water skiing or surfing on your next trip to Canada, keep reading!

People from the ground can’t possibly comprehend. A Canadian spring is not complete without time spent on the waters inside a canoe

Here are five rivers to satiate your appetite if you’re into frothy holes and monster whitewater waves after winter months spent indoors playing online slots with Thunderbolt casino bonuses.

1. The Yukon River

While many people opt for a leisurely float downstream the Yukon to take in the beauty of inner Alaska, some travelers would want to include some additional stops along the way.

Some people opt to take the riskier Charley River trip so that they may observe the local fauna. Others choose to take detours along the Yukon River to see historical sites. There will be no RVs, automobile exhaust, or lines. Traveling along the Yukon River and the wilderness of eastern Interior Alaska, you will find peace and quiet and be awed by the region’s stunning natural scenery.

River rafting is one of many ways to enjoy the Yukon’s wildness, but it’s hard to top for sheer excitement. Longer trips take you down adventurous and wild rivers and pass through some of the world’s most tranquil landscapes. On the shorter courses, you may be able to avoid getting wet, but let’s be honest; being wet is half the fun.

2. Niagara River

Take a thrilling trip down the Niagara River inside an open-air jet boat for an unforgettable experience on your trip to Niagara. Nothing beats a trip down the Niagara River, but you can be sure you will get wet!

Now is your chance to view some of the Niagara River’s most spectacular sights.

Paddle your kayak with knowledgeable tour leaders through the marshland and through the islands that were so important to the early settlers of the Niagara Frontier. Put in at Strawberry Island for a break, and enjoy the pebble beach and the pristine river water. Seeing the falls is the main attraction at Niagara Falls, and a ride on the Maid of the Mist is among the most iconic ways to experience them. Since the 1840s, tourists have used these boats to travel to and from the bottom of the falls. The Maid of the Mist takes you so close to the waterfall that you’ll likely get soaked, but they supply raincoats and say it’s one of the greatest ways to see Niagara Falls.

5 of the Best Movies Set in Canada

Many movies that are filmed in Canada aren’t actually set there. However, there are plenty of worthwhile films that are both filmed and set in the country. On this page, we’ll show you 5 movies that do a brilliant job of celebrating Canada in an authentic way.

One Week

Released theatrically in 2009, this drama film by Michael McGowan stars Joshua Jackson as teacher Ben Tyler. He’s just been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer that’s in its fourth and deadliest stage. Rather than undergoing immediate treatment, he decides to travel across Canada by motorcycle. Starting in Toronto, he works his way from east to west, ending up in Vancouver. Along the way, he re-evaluates his relationship and his job and continues to dream about being a writer.

An abundance of stunning Canadian scenery forms the film’s backdrop. Music plays a big role and all of the artists who contributed to the film’s soundtrack are Canadian.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

This rather offbeat film was filmed entirely in Canada, which isn’t too common for Hollywood films. Released in 2010, it has elements of romance, comedy and action. Though it failed to make a profit at the box office, it was well-received by critics and has gained a cult following.

The film stars Michael Cera as the lead character. He’s a musician who’s trying to win a record deal while simultaneously battling his girlfriend’s seven evil exes. Set in Toronto, some of the city’s most famous attractions are featured. These include the CN Tower, Lee’s Palace and the Baldwin Steps, among others.

The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz

Having been released back in 1974, this is the oldest entry on our list. However, its age doesn’t mean it should be overlooked. This film is set in 1950s Montreal and follows the titular character as he tries to scheme his way out of the city’s poor Jewish community. It’s a comedy-action film and it’s based on the eponymous novel by Mordecai Richler, which came out in 1959.

When it was released, it became the highest-grossing English-language Canadian film ever. Its take of $1.7 million is nothing by today’s standards, but it was very significant for Canadian cinema at the time. Many Montreal landmarks can be seen in the film. Those who visit the city for the first time will find many top attractions to see, including natural features, interesting museums and a theme park.

The F Word

This romantic comedy film was released in 2013 and is set in Toronto. It follows two characters, played by Daniel Radcliffe and Zoe Kazan, and their growing friendship. They meet and get on, but because Kazan’s character has a boyfriend, they decide to be friends.

The F Word debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2013 before getting a theatrical release in August 2014. Though it didn’t fare well at the box office, it was well-received by critics.

The film highlights some of Toronto’s lesser-known attractions. The city is home to many hidden gems, including pretty good casinos. These are worth visiting if you fancy a night out playing games such as slots, blackjack, and poker. It’s recommended to practice these games before playing in person, and online casino sites offer a wide range of games, such as online gambling slots, table games, and live dealer games. The best operators even offer exciting promotions for new players, such as 100% up to C$200, and some platforms have listed an all-in-one guide to the best online gambling sites. If you feel inspired to visit Toronto after watching The F Word, stop by its casinos and check out some of the city’s many other great attractions.

Atanarjuat: The Fast Runner

Hailed by some as the greatest Canadian film of all time, Atanarjuat: The Fast Runner showcases a part of Canada that’s rarely seen: the far north. It’s the first full-length movie to be entirely produced in the Inuktitut language, which is spoken by around 39,000 people.

Atanarjuat: The Fast Runner is an epic with a run time of almost three hours. It’s a retelling of a traditional Inuit legend passed down through generations of oral tradition.

With its high precision 24bit/44.1kHz audio processing, the FVACM technology excellently restores the characteristics of classic guitar tones and amplifiers, making the tone more dynamic and layered.

The IR sample length of Arena2000 is up to 23.2ms. This ultra-long resolution capability can precisely restore the tone of the IR collection object and reproduce the acoustic environment of the collection space, resulting in a tone with a greater dynamic range and a stronger sense

Our score 4.5 out of 5 stars

Since 2012 Donner Music has been making affordable, quality instruments for all level of musicians. The company is now branching out into the audio market with the release of their “DoBuds One” wireless earbuds. Available in a variety of colors the earbuds come packed with an abundance of top end features including 12mm dynamic drivers, digital noise cancelling, 32 hr. battery life and 5.2 Bluetooth connectivity. To coincide with the release of the “DoBuds One” Donner has also developed a corresponding app which allows users to fully customize their listening experience.

Construction-
It seems like every-day new earbuds are popping up on the market all boasting a bevy of features so when it comes time to purchase a new pair buyers often don’t know where to start. Donner has recently thrown their hat into the ring with the release of their “DoBuds One” active noise cancelling headphones. The stereo earbuds come packaged in a heavy-duty Type-C charging case along with cable and a 5-piece set of ear tips (XS/S/M/L/XL). Getting the right fit is crucial when it comes to earbuds and it can sometimes be difficult to do so as not all brands offer a variety of tip sizes. This can severely affect sound quality and leave users a bit frustrated. Donner does an excellent job here as not only do they include a full-size range of tips but the tips they include are dual hardness which provides a very secure and stable fit while also providing maximum comfort. The earbuds matte finish is easy to clean and features a IPX4 Waterproofing which eliminates worry of light water or sweat exposure when being used in a gym or outdoor setting however they are not for underwater use. The DoBuds One offer an impressive 32-hour battery life which is maximized by use of a 5.2 Bluetooth connection. Though the case does not feature its own built-in cable you can still charge through the case with the included cable or with any comparable type C-cable. For charging times you can expect around two hours of music play time per every ten minutes of charging. This allows for very short overall charging times which is something earbud users (myself included) tend to worry about as you can quickly get back using your device with minimal downtime.

Sound-
The Dobuds One come equipped with 12mm dual hybrid drivers which can be easily tailored by the listener via the Donner Connect app. Here users can select from six pre-set EQ settings or they create their own setting via the App’s customizable 8 band EQ making for a truly one-of-a-kind experience. Within the App users can also select their desired level of noise reduction as well as their preferred tap control options via the gestures tab. I found this feature to be very useful as I often forget how many taps access what feature. After a couple quick EQ tweaks, I was able to get a great sound out of these earbuds which remained consistent across several different music genres and podcasts. Low, Mid and High frequencies all presented themselves equally while listening to recorded material as well as while on phone/video calls. Another feature worth mentioning is the environmental noise cancellation. This feature when used along with the Donner App allows for wind resistant calls which is something I have struggled with while using other brands. The Dobuds One made a huge difference in the clarity of both incoming and outgoing audio in a variety of environmental settings.

The Dobuds One from Donner are an affordable, well-made product that offer a robust number of customizable options. From the included sizing kit, easy one button Bluetooth pairing and expansive in App customization I think you will be hard pressed to find a better Earbud system in this price range. Yes, the addition of another app to your device might be a bit annoying as is the need for yet another charging cable (thankfully the use of Type-C will eliminate this for most) these small inconveniences are easily outweighed by how many positives this product has to offer. If you are in the market for a new set of earbuds you can’t go wrong with the Donner Dobuds One and with the holidays right around the corner these would be a great idea for that special someone.
