The Intergalactic Scumdog Warriors also recently announced the re-issue of their landmark masterpiece album, ‘Hell-O!,’ with 2024 being its 36th anniversary. The new release will be blood-spattered clear vinyl and includes expanded artwork featuring never-before-seen photos from the time, including the original album release show in Richmond.

‘Hell-O! (36th Anniversary Edition)’ will be available in physical form only with limited runs of both CD and Vinyl. It is due out September 13th on the band’s own label: Pit Records.

To help celebrate this momentous release, the iconic heavy metal collective is also reprinting the “GWAR Must Die” t-shirts made oh-so-famous back in their original pillaging days by human rabble everywhere. Get yours HERE!

As some of you may know, the current lead singer of the band, Blóthar the Berserker, once inhabited the earthly form of GWAR’s original bass player, Beefcake the Mighty. We asked Blóthar for his feelings on this momentous occasion:

“It was the 80’s. I was so young and scared. I will always remember wandering around the seedy sex arcades of Times Square, pants around my ankles, tears in my eyes…little did I know, I was working on the most important record in the history of shock rock. We were polishing a turd for the ages…we wanted to call it ‘Beat the Meatles,’ but the record company said no…and ‘Hell-O’ was born.”

Concert Review: Baroness “U.S. Summer Tour” Essex, Rochester, NY

U.S. Summer Tour 2023

Baroness, Portrayal of Guilt, Gozu,

Sunday, June 2nd 2024
Essex, Rochester, NY

Our Score: 4 out of 5 stars

Progressive heavy metal-ers Baroness made a stop in Rochester, NY at the newly opened Essex music venue for a night of thunderous guitar driven music. The show is one of a handful of dates making up the Georgia based bands Summer tour and is support of their most recent studio release titled “Stone”. Along with the evenings headliner were Portrayal of Guilt and Gozu who each took their turn at filling the air of the dimly lit, industrial venue which served as a near perfect location for the nights sonic festivities.

Taking the stage first were Boston, MA natives Gozu. The band consisting of vocalist/guitarist Marc Gaffney, guitarist Doug Sherman, bassist Joe Grotto and drummer Seth Botos performed a brief set which oozed forth a sonic dirge of fuzz driven stoner rock that had those in attendance slows nodding their heads in a eerie cadence as the bands dual guitar attack ripped through the venues front of house speakers. The band played performed tracks from their five album catalog including tracks from their most recent release “Remedy”. Fans who made it out to the venue early got a real treat as Gozu’s performance was a perfect blend of melodic psychedelia.

Next up was the black metal band Portrayal of Guilt. Hailing from Austin, TX the three piece group couldn’t have been more different from the other bands on the bill as their intense attack and abstract song structure was much more aggressive than I think some fans were ready for. Vocalist/guitarist Matt King was all business as his guttural vocal style socked listeners in the gut while the bands instrumentation finished them off with a bludgeoning knockout blow. Though personally I didn’t find anything particular appealing about the bands sound or performance they did receive a sizable amount of applause at the close of their set.

After a minimal set change Baroness would take the stage next performing a 13 song set made up of tracks from the bands expansive catalog. “Last Word” from the recently released “Stone” album would kick things off by setting the foundation for fans favorite like “A Horse Called Golgotha” and “March to the Sea”. The blend of guitar and vocals provided by John Baizley and Gina Gleason worked flawlessly together and only seem to get better as the set progressed in to tracks like “Chlorine and Wine” and my personal favorite “Shock Me”. Equally impressive was the bands rhythm section which features Sebastian Thomas on drums and Nick Jost on bass and keyboards. Much like the duo of Baizley and Gleason both Jost and Thomas are keyed in to one another on such a high level that they could easily be considered one of the best rhythm sections out there. The frantic “Borderlines” and the overdriven “The Sweetest Curse” would close out the main portion of the evenings set however after a short pause the band would take the stage for two final songs. Before ending the night John Baizley would thank the crowd for their continued support and dedication to the band which goes back to the bands early days. The band then closed out the night with the always popular “Take My Bones Away” a track which had the crowd singing along to nearly every word and “Isak” an older number that’s notes and lyrics seemed to hauntingly hang in the air as the closing sounds rang out and the band exited the stage.

It was surprising to hear that Baroness was returning to the area so soon as we were lucky enough to catch them in late November about and hour north of Rochester in Buffalo, NY so to be able to see them again so soon and with a new set of openers was certainly something the crowd (myself included) were not complaining about. I felt the second time around the package of opening bands far surpassed that of the previous run and Baroness only continues to impress me each time I am able to see them. With shows running through the end of June you will certainly want to get a ticket for this show as you will not be disappointed.

Baroness Setlist:

1.) Last Word
2.) Under the Wheel
3.) A Horse Called Golgotha
4.) March to the Sea
5.) Green Theme
6.) Beneath the Rose
7.) Chlorine & Wine
8.) War, Wisdom and Rhyme
9.) Shock Me
10.) Borderlines
11.) The Sweetest Curse

Encore:
12.) Take My Bones Away
13.) Isak

Album Review: Godsmack “Awake” Remastered Double LP

“Awake”

Godsmack
Republic/Universal Music

2 LP

Our Score: 2.5 out of 5 Stars

As the follow up to their multi-platinum self-titled debut in 1998, Godsmack released their second full-length album titled “Greed” in 2000. The sophomore release included tracks such as “Bad Magick,” “Awake,” and “Greed” which helped further cement the band as heavy metal hit makers. The title track would go on to earn Godsmack their first Billboard #1 hit, and the track “Vampire” earned the band their first Grammy® nomination. Now for the first time you can own this monumental release on 2LP remastered vinyl in either limited-edition green color “Awake” vinyl with a special etched side or 2LP black vinyl with etched side.

The saying goes that a band has their entire life to write their debut release but only a short time there after to provide there follow up. A lot of bands aren’t able to meet the demand or what they do release pales in comparison to the previous release. For Godsmack not only did they meet those expectations they far exceeded them. From earning the band their first #1 Billboard hit along with their first Grammy nomination the track “Awake” was feature in a very prominent recruiting campaign by the U.S. Navy. Just one of those accolades would make this album worthy of a re-release and what better way to celebrate the album than to release a newly remastered version on double LP. The 2LP release is available in either limited edition green or standard black each of which contain an etched side 4 of LP 2.

Though the release wasn’t horrible I did find it to be little lacking in a few areas. Right away I found the initial sound of the album to be a bit on the thin side. Despite being newly remastered especially for this release the albums instrumentation sounded thin and lacked the bands signature low end attack. This was most noticeable when you hear the signature guitar riff to “Awake” and the rhythmic groove of “Black Magick” tracks which are both know for their drive and pronounced instrumentation. I will say where the music lacked the vocals made up for things as the came across with an evened brightness that projected nicely. I think even just a touch more low and mid’s would have made a big difference and given these tracks a unique freshness not found on the original recording. Also missing from this release was any new/additional material. Hardcore fans maybe be apt to pass on this due to the lack of any additional new, alternate or outtake material and the absence of any liner notes was also a bit of a bummer as well. You do get a cool etched 4th side of LP 2 however I would have much maybe preferred a bonus track or two over the added visuals.

Don’t get me wrong I think its very cool and deserving that you can now get “Greed” on vinyl but, I think a little more effort could have gone in to this as I tend to feel a little cheated when an album is re-released with nothing other than a fresh remaster. If you don’t already own a copy of this or need it to add to your ever growing vinyl collection don’t let me opinions solely sway you. Let yours ears be the judge as even with its noted short comings “Awake” is still at its core a good album.

MUSIC VIDEO FOR SONG CAN BE SEEN HERE

With 2024 continuing to bring new highlights and opportunities for Los Angeles rockers The Effect, the trio comprised of Trev Lukather (son of Toto’s Steve Lukather) on guitars, Nic Collins (son of Phil Collins) on drums, and newcomer Emmett Stang on vocals have partnered with musical legend Steve Perry of Journey to record a cover of Journey’s “It Could Have Been You.” The song comes from Journey’s 1986 album Raised On Radio. The idea to work together came from a conversation between Trev and Steve and the rest of the band jumped at the chance to work with Perry. The song was produced by Trev Lukather and the music video marks the return of director Madison Leigh Lukather – who has directed all of the band’s videos – and features styling by The Sisters Closet. The song can be found via all Digital Service Providers here and the music video is now live here: https://youtu.be/wEthjEcpBAU?si=4zwo-FrLwCrXQrbM.

A message from Steve Perry about “It Could Have Been You:”

In 1986, the Journey “Raised on Radio” record was released and in it was a song I’ve always felt was a diamond in the ruff.

I’ve known Trev Lukather since he was 9 years old, and he is a very gifted musician.

One day we were talking about his new band, “The Effect” … He surprisingly mentioned “It Could Have Been You” is one of his favorite tracks from that record, I told him I felt the same. I then said, why don’t you record it? He asked if I would sing on it if they did, I said… “Of course, my most precious!”
I must say, singing on their powerful track brought out a vocal experience from years ago!

So now… Releasing on May 7th on all socials and streaming is a powerful reimagined version of
“It Could Have Been You” by.. “The Effect”. Have a listen !

Sincerely
Steve Perry

After the success of their first-ever live show last October and the response to their debut song “Unwanted,”the follow up “Something Wrong” and most recently “Toxic Envy,” The Effect have done a lot to develop their brand in less than 8 short months. The band has recently found mainstream attention with media partners like People Magazine, American Songwriter, Ultimate Classic Rock, Loudwire, and others all talking about the newcomers and their unique sound. The band even had the video for “Unwanted” reach #1 on the season finale of AXS TV’s flagship music program on Thursday nights – The Power Hour. The Effect has done a few shows opening for Steel Panther and most-recently with Evan Stanley. They recently announced some dates opening for Billy Idol in the United States and will be taking their music to Europe this June where they will open for Toto on a bunch of dates along with festival and headline shows. The band was recently added to the prestigious Isle Of Wight Festival 2024 where they will be performing on the River Stage on June 21st. More shows to be announced in the near future and information on tickets for all show can be found at: https://www.theeffectband.com.

Recently, original keyboardist Steve Maggiora announced his departure from the band in an Instagram post. “Sad to announce my departure from @theeffectband. I’m eternally grateful to @trevlukather @nic_collins, @emmettleestang, and the whole Effect family for having me, and though I will not be continuing as a member of the project, I’ll always be a fan and support as I can. It was a heartbreaking decision to make, but unfortunately unavoidable. Please keep following, supporting and sharing The Effect – the music we created is some of my favorites that I’ve ever worked on, they rock and are gonna take over and it’s gonna be iconic! #theeffect”

The Effect posted this in response: “It is with a heavy heart we announce the departure of our brother Steve Maggiora from The Effect. Although Steve will not be continuing as a member of the band, the collaboration does not end here. The Effect will be moving forward with the 3 core members Trev, Nic and Emmett. Steve has an amazing send off with the music video of “It Could Have Been You” We love you Steve!! @stevemaggioraofficial”

More information on the debut album for The Effect will be available in the future.

About The Effect:
The members of The Effect—Trev Lukather [guitar, producer], Nic Collins [drums], and Emmett Stang [lead vocals]—found each other at the perfect moment. Beyond serendipity, similar experiences cemented an instant bond between these musicians. Each member had logged miles on the road and countless hours in the studio on his own. Trev shined as a solo artist and producer and writer for the likes of Halestorm and Dorothy, Nic held down the drums on tour alongside Phil Collins, Genesis, and Mike + The Mechanics, and Emmett exploded with consistent viral success. Taking the connection one step further, Trev and Nic each grew up as the sons of rock icons—Steve Lukather of Toto and Phil Collins, respectively. They forged a friendship in 2023 and decided to write and record together, welcoming Steve and Emmett to the fold shortly after. The musicians congregated at Trev’s home studio in Los Angeles for “band camp” and immediately gelled, rallying around a signature sound infusing stadium rock energy and spirit with pop palatability. Now, they come together as The Effect, introducing their vision with the release of the songs “Unwanted,” “Something Wrong” and “Toxic Envy” with more still to come.

ACCEPT’s Wolf Hoffmann says:

“This tour with KK’s Priest is a dream come true for Accept and for me personally.

Accept supported Judas Priest back in the early 80s – it was our first ‘real’ international tour and Priest had been a huge influence on us.
I’m really looking forward to reconnecting with KK on this very special tour. It’s going to be epic! Don’t miss it!”

This past September, KK’S PRIEST unveiled their blistering sophomore offering, ‘The Sinner Rides Again’, to rave reviews! Blabbermouth dubbed it “an absolutely ripping metal record”, while Paste stated, “…with all respect to Rob Halford and co., nothing they’ve produced in recent years feels as dynamic and as heavy as the material that their former guitarist has been forging with his project KK’S PRIEST.” The album debuted at #1 on the US Hard Music Albums chart, #3 on the Top New Artist Albums chart, and #6 on the Current Rock Albums chart. The Sinner Rides Again also landed at #6 on the end-of-year NACC Heavy radio chart, while resulting as one of the top spun albums of the year at Metal Contraband.

With ‘The Sinner Rides Again’, KK’S PRIEST double down on the ripping melodic force of their debut, ‘Sermons Of The Sinner’ – which Metal Hammer UK dubbed “hugely enjoyable” and Metal Injection cited as boasting “catchy hooks and plenty of guitar wizardry”. ‘The Sinner Rides Again’ wields nine tracks of pure hellfire, produced and written by Downing and mixed/mastered by Jacob Hansen. The celebrated new album is a call for the classics while speeding full force into the future, delivered by some of heavy metal’s most essential performers.

In celebration of his forthcoming new album Orgy of the Damned out May 17 on Gibson Records, SLASH the iconic, GRAMMY®-winning guitarist and songwriter has curated an all-star Blues lineup for the S.E.R.P.E.N.T. Blues Festival touring North America this summer. SLASH formed the S.E.R.P.E.N.T. festival which stands for Solidarity, Engagement, Restore, Peace, Equality N’ Tolerance to bring fans together to celebrate the spirit of the Blues, and to perform with other Blues artists he admires who share his love of the genre. SLASH’s S.E.R.P.E.N.T. festival includes Warren Haynes Band, Keb’ ‘Mo, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, Robert Randolph, Samantha Fish, Eric Gales, ZZ Ward, Jackie Venson, and Larkin Poe. On all dates, SLASH will perform alongside his Blues band featuring bassist Johnny Griparic, keyboardist Teddy ‘ZigZag’ Andreadis, drummer Michael Jerome, and singer/guitarist Tash Neal. Today, the S.E.R.P.E.N.T. Blues Festival has added a new date of Tuesday, July 16 in Salt Lake City, UT at the Red Butte Garden; for all S.E.R.P.E.N.T. Blues Festival dates, visit: SerpentFestival.com.

“The S.E.R.P.E.N.T. Festival is great platform for my band to jam on some blues and R&B inspired music alongside some truly influential artists,” says SLASH. “It’s a great vehicle to bring people of ALL kinds together during these divisive times to have a fun and entertaining afternoon and evening of live music, away from all the chaos that’s going on. We’ll also be using some of the proceeds to give back to the community and these important causes.”

The S.E.R.P.E.N.T. Festival was designed with maximum social impact in mind. SLASH has a strong desire to give back to nonprofits that he has supported over the years, as well as to help lift marginalized communities, and support mental health initiatives that share his restorative focus of elevating lives for the benefit of all. SLASH has now chosen a fifth nonprofit, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) to directly benefit from touring proceeds from the festival. NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. An alliance of more than 600 local affiliates, NAMI works in communities to educate, support, advocate, listen and improve the lives of people with mental illness and their loved ones. NAMI’s mission is to create a world where all people affected by mental illness can experience hope, recovery, wellness and freedom from stigma.

NAMI joins the previously announced organizations including The Equal Justice Initiative, Know Your Rights Camp, The Greenlining Institute, and War Child. Through PLUS1.ORG the S.E.R.P.E.N.T Festival will donate a portion of the proceeds from every VIP package, as well as Ticket sold for the S.E.R.P.E.N.T. festival to directly benefit the nonprofits selected by SLASH. A vibrant homage to the blues, SLASH’s star-studded debut blues album and sixth solo album of his career, Orgy of the Damned is a collection of 12 dynamic songs that revitalize the blues with a stripped-down approach. By celebrating both well-known and largely undiscovered songs, SLASH offers a nostalgic nod to the past while reinvigorating the songs with his inimitable guitar playing and the spirit of collaboration. For Orgy of the Damned, the acclaimed guitarist reteamed with storied producer Mike Clink and enlisted the album’s diverse guest vocalists, which include Gary Clark Jr, Billy F. Gibbons, Chris Stapleton, Dorothy, Iggy Pop, Paul Rodgers, Demi Lovato, Brian Johnson, Tash Neal, Chris Robinson, and Beth Hart. Rounding out his blues band in the studio and on the road, SLASH reunited with two of his bandmates from his Blues Ball outfit in the 90s, bassist Johnny Griparic and keyboardist Teddy ‘ZigZag’ Andreadis, and brought on drummer Michael Jerome and singer/guitarist Tash Neal.

SLASH has released two songs off Orgy of the Damned including “Oh Well” which features outlaw country star Chris Stapleton on vocals, and is a transcendent and electrified, bluesy folk-infused take on the Fleetwood Mac gem, written by original founder Peter Green. Listen to SLASH’s “Oh Well” featuring Chris Stapleton on vocals HERE, and watch/share the visualizer for “Oh Well” HERE. Also, listen to “Killing Floor” feat. Brian Johnson of AC/DC on vocals, and Steven Tyler of Aerosmith on harmonica which Rolling Stone hailed “a freewheeling bluesy solo,” HERE and watch/share the “Killing Floor” video for a first look at SLASH and with his blues band in the studio HERE.

SLASH’s Orgy of the Damned is available worldwide digitally, on vinyl and CD via Gibson Records; pre-order HERE. Watch/share album trailer HERE and for more information, go to www.slashonline.com.

Orgy of the Damned encompasses a broad range of styles within the blues genre, veering from an upbeat, rowdy take on Robert Johnson’s “Crossroads” to a plaintive, twanging rendition of T. Bone Walker’s “Stormy Monday.” Some of the songs, like Steppenwolf’s “The Pusher,” Charlie Segar’s “Key to the Highway,” and Albert King’s “Born Under a Bad Sign,” had been performed by Slash’s Blues Ball, while others, like Stevie Wonder’s “Living for the City,” were long-time favorites for SLASH. “Hoochie Coochie Man,” written by Willie Dixon and made famous by Muddy Waters in 1954, showcases the in-the-moment nature and unrestrained energy of Orgy of the Damned, with Z.Z. Top’s Billy F. Gibbons stepping in on guitar and vocals. The group went into a rehearsal room in North Hollywood and began hashing out soulful, rollicking takes on the classic songs. Everything was played live in the room, with an emphasis on improvisation which resulted in a collection of dynamic, energized songs that are immediate, raw, and distinctly familiar.

Concert Review: Ace Frehley- “10,000 Volts Tour” Capitol Theater, Rome, NY

10,000 Volts Tour 2023

Ace Frehley, Angel, Bad Marriage,

Friday, April 12th 2024
Capitol Theater, Rome, NY

Our Score: 3 out of 5 stars

In support of his newly release solo album titled “10,000 Volts” original Kiss guitarist Ace Frehley made a stop at the historic Capital Theater, located in Rome, NY for night of out of this world music. The weekend jaunts will run through August and feature a variety of opening acts sharing the stage with the Space Man but for this night the bill included Bad Marriage and 70’s Casablanca label mates Angel.

The band Bad Marriage would take the stage promptly at 7pm performing their own unique signature blend of 80’s tinged rock and roll which set the stage nicely for the nights other performers. The band consisting of Mike Fitz, Ian Haggerty, Todd, Boisvert, Michael Delaney and former Tesla guitarist Tommy Skeoch were full of energy and wasted no time transitioning between songs over the course of their 45 minute set. Though a majority of the crowd were still making their way to their seats the band put on a top notch performance both musically and visually.

Veteran 70’s hard rockers Angel would be next to the stage clad in their signature white leathers. Original members Frank DiMino and guitarist Punky Meadows worked the stage like seasoned veterans taking time to thank the growing crowd for their continued support over all these years. The set featured songs from all aspects of the bands of the bands 40 plus year career and those in attendance showed their appreciation for the band through loud applause and cheer which the band seemed very appreciative of.

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Ace Frehley closed out the night by blasting onto the stage opening the night with “Shock Me” from Kiss’s 1977 album Love Gun. The crowd seemed surprised the Space Man was starting things off with one of his more well known sounds however they didn’t seem to mind is the entire theater seemed to instantly take to their feet to dance and sing along. “Rocket Ride” would be next on the set list album and as the closing notes rang out Frehley would take a brief pause to address the crowd and talk about his newly released solo album “10,000 Volts” which was followed by the track of the same name. This would be the only new material that was included in the evenings set and though Frehley seemed to struggle some with the vocals his backing band made up of bassist Ryan Cook, guitarist Jeremy Asbrock and drummer Scot Coogan all did great jobs filling in for the hard rock legend. As the night stretched Frehley pulled out all the signature stops which made him a fan favorite in his previous group. From his light up guitar on “New York Groove” to his smoke billowing solo guitar Frehley was the consummate professional and much like he had done for thousands of shows before he and the band closed things out with the sing along anthem “Rock and Roll All Night” which had fans of all ages leaving the venue with smiles on their faces and ringing in their ears.

The “10,000 Volts” tour runs through late August and has Ace and Co. performing all over the U.S. If the Spaceman is set to land in your area I highly recommend catching a show as you will be hard pressed to find another 73 year old artist performing at this level.

Multi-platinum rock band, Staind has released a new song, “Better Days” featuring Dorothy, from their latest album, Confessions of the Fallen. Buy/stream single HERE

“Better Days,” an emotionally charged power ballad that is classic Staind, marks the first time the band has a featured artist on a song. Singer and namesake of LA rock band, Dorothy brings her powerhouse vocals alongside Aaron Lewis, taking the sentiment of the song to the next level.

“This was a departure for me,” says Aaron Lewis. “It’s really the first time Staind explored a feature with a female guest vocalist. Once we started tracking I could tell the synergy was there. We didn’t have to pick harmonies, we didn’t have to analyze parts, they just happened. I’m stoked to have Dorothy on this single with me. Her talent and voice are incredible.”

“I had a great time tracking “Better Days,” adds Dorothy. “It’s a beautiful song and I hope fans connect with it. I’m so grateful to Aaron for the opportunity.”

PEARL JAM RELEASE NEW SINGLE “WRECKAGE” OUT NOW

PEARL JAM RELEASE NEW SINGLE “WRECKAGE”

NEW ALBUM DARK MATTER ARRIVES THIS FRIDAY, APRIL 19TH

DARK MATTER NORTH AMERICAN TOUR LAUNCHES MAY 4, 2024 Tickets Available HERE

“The New Pearl Jam Album Is Their Best In Decades” – UPROXX

“Dark Matter is many things. It’s thrilling. It’s moving. It’s surprising. It’s a band still operating at the peaks of their powers.” – Kerrang!

Pearl Jam proudly present their latest single, “Wreckage”. The single comes in advance of their anxiously awaited twelfth studio album, Dark Matter, available this Friday, April 19th via Monkeywrench Records/Republic Records.

Stone Gossard on “Wreckage”:
“That one probably has the biggest build for me personally, in terms of hearing it at first and thinking, it’s kind of an Ed song. I wasn’t quite aware of its potency until later. Andrew [Watt] encouraged me to play this little harmonic, acoustic part almost like a Cure melody. I’ve been playing along with the song to relearn it and I’m really looking forward to playing it live. It’s a really powerful lyric and I think we did a really great job of taking something and really pushing it to its limit.”

Andrew Watt adds:
“[“Wreckage”] started with the riff and everyone kind of formulating sections together. That song just came to Ed right away. Within the first couple takes before the music was even right, his vocals were right. His melodies and words are so strong in that song. Once the initial spark was there and there were a few sections, it was just really about following him.”
