Devin Townsend announces ambitious, orchestral metal opus ‘The Moth’

Devin Townsend announces ambitious, orchestral metal opus The Moth; a project over a decade in the making

First single ‘Enter The City’ out now; pre-order the album out on May 29 here: https://dvn.lnk.to/TheMoth

“The Moth is about the journey—but it is also about arrival”

Canadian metal maverick Devin Townsend has built a career on distinct creative worlds—heavy records, atmospheric detours, character-driven releases—each with its own logic and weather system. His latest release, The Moth, is different. It arrives without a pre-existing template, not as a pivot for novelty’s sake, but as a culmination: a project conceived from the beginning as orchestral, choral, and theatrical in scope, with the scale required to underline the emotional transformation at the heart of the concept.

An album over a decade in the making, The Moth finally arrives on May 29, 2026. This 24-track record began as a vague vision more than a decade ago. It existed in the back of Devin Townsend’s mind as his “life’s work”. Then, about six years ago, after an acoustic show in Amsterdam, Townsend was approached by the head of the North Netherlands’ Orchestra and Choir with an offer: bring orchestral grandeur to Devin’s extensive discography.

Townsend’s response was immediate—and telling. If those forces were going to be assembled, he wanted to spend them on something new: this original work that had been circling him for years, waiting for a door to open. That was the moment The Moth stopped being an idea and began to become a reality.

Today, to coincide with the announcement, Devin is also pleased to reveal the first introduction to the world of The Moth, in the shape of the track ‘Enter The City’. The song is accompanied by a video created by Studio Sparks, which you can watch now here: https://youtu.be/Ih78rQZT8U4

As Devin explains, The Moth is “a loose story following someone who realises that old patterns of behaviour are no longer serving them. By digging in and sitting with themselves, an internal conflict is revealed, one they may have been resisting or unconsciously rationalizing for years”, and ‘Enter The City comes towards the beginning of that story arc.

The Moth constitutes 3 distinct parts across its release. In addition to the main album, The Moth – The Afterlife highlights the grandeur of the orchestra & choir, in what might be considered a more pure version of The Moth experience. The Moth – The War is a recording of the live musical debut that took place in March 2025 in The Netherlands, showcasing the raw emotion of performing The Moth for the very first time.

The Moth will be available on several formats including Ltd Deluxe 3CD+Blu-ray Artbook that includes the album on CD1, ‘The Moth – The Afterlife’ on CD2 & ‘The Moth – The War (Live)’ on CD3. The Blu-ray includes the full ‘The Moth – The War’ live film, as well as Dolby Atmos & High Resolution Stereo Mixes of the ‘The Moth’ and ‘The Moth – The Afterlife’. It will also be available as Limited 2CD Edition (including ‘The Moth-The Afterlife’ on CD2), Standard CD Jewelcase and as Gatefold Triple-Gatefold 180g 2LP & Fold-Out LP-booklet, as well as digitally.

Cheap Trick’s 21st studio album, All Washed Up is out now via BMG. Produced by Cheap Trick with longtime associate Julian Raymond and mixed by 5x GRAMMY® Award-winner Chris Lord-Alge (Green Day, Dave Matthews Band), All Washed Up includes such immediate fan favorites as “The Riff That Won’t Quit” and the anthemic first single, “Twelve Gates,” the latter of which was met by immediate praise from such outlets as Ultimate Classic Rock, which hailed it as “a sweet slab of psychedelic guitars, sugary pop-rock hooks and lush, Beatlesque vocal harmonies.” American Songwriter agreed, writing, “The mid-tempo rock song features psychedelic and power-pop elements reminiscent of The Beatles, not surprising for a group that’s always been so heavily and unrepentantly influenced by the Fab Four.”

VENOM THE BLACK METAL GODS ANNOUNCE THEIR BRAND-NEW ALBUM, ‘INTO OBLIVION’

VENOM THE BLACK METAL GODS ANNOUNCE THEIR BRAND-NEW ALBUM, ‘INTO OBLIVION’

RELEASED ON NOISE/BMG ON MAY 1st, 2026

WATCH/STREAM THE FIRST SINGLE ‘LAY DOWN YOUR SOUL’

PLUS, PREORDERS HERE – https://venomslegions.lnk.to/intooblivionPR

Venom needs no introduction, from their birth in Newcastle in ’79 they paved the way for extreme metal and created their own genre, Black Metal. Which is arguably more popular now than it has ever been globally, with their influence ever far reaching as the originators.

‘Into Oblivion’ is Venom’s sixteenth studio album and features the long-standing line up of Cronos (bass/vocals and founding member), Rage (guitar) and Dante (drums) and marks their first new recordings since 2018’s, ‘Storm The Gates’. Into Oblivion consists of thirteen songs that are signature Venom: heavy, evil and catchy. There’s a combination of their classic 80’s sound adjacent to a more modern, progressive approach but without losing any of their fire and brimstone of old.

The album has been in the works for some years now, but a number of factors held back its completion until now; the Covid pandemic, recording setbacks and the hunger to nail it to perfection, but in the words of Cronos ‘This album has really pushed the boundaries, but if you want to make a killer album, you pay for it in blood, sweat and tears.’ However, Venom true to form have overcome adversity to release an album worthy of their legacy as Rage affirms ‘I’m so proud of this album, it’s astounding! It feels so different, yet so familiar. The sonics are a step up, no song sounds the same, but they all work together.’

The lead single, Lay Down You Soul is a thunderous first offering and harks back to the band’s formative years, and the song Black Metal. While being slightly tongue in cheek, it bears all the hallmarks of a soon to be live classic with its rousing sing-along chorus. Cronos states, ‘I think it’s healthy to recognise things from back in the day and bring them into a new setting that gives it a whole fresh approach. The fans are going to go mental for it!’

The chemistry on ‘Into Oblivion’ is undeniable and is a musical testament to the longevity of this lineup, which now eclipses any other, clocking in at seventeen years. Dante clicks his fingers, ‘It’s gone like that, seventeen years! It’s all down to friendship and mutual respect.’

‘Into Oblivion’ will be released on May 1st, 2026 via Noise/BMG and is available for preorder now and is available in these formats.

During the race weekend, more than 200,000 spectators are expected to gather at Suzuka Circuit, making it one of the world’s major sporting events. The final race will be broadcast to more than 180 countries and regions worldwide, and the national anthem performance immediately before the race start serves as a symbolic ceremony marking the opening of the Grand Prix. YOSHIKI will deliver a first-of-its-kind arrangement featuring both piano and drums.

“I am deeply honored to perform the national anthem at such a prestigious venue as the Suzuka Circuit,” said YOSHIKI. “Following my third surgery and an extensive period of recovery, I am looking forward to delivering my full sound to the world. YOSHIKI’s presence at Formula 1 underscores his influential status in global culture. YOSHIKI is widely recognized as one of Japan’s most internationally influential artists. PRE-ORDER COUNTACH (FOR GIORGIO) NEON PURPLE VINYL PRESSING

A genre-defying tribute to GRAMMY® and Academy Award-winning producer/composer Giorgio Moroder — the legendary Italian-born “Father of Disco” and sonic mind behind such iconic soundtracks as Midnight Express, Top Gun, The NeverEnding Story, and Flashdance — Countach (For Giorgio) fuses fiddle, outlaw country grit, DX7 synthesizers, and LinnDrum programming into something entirely its own. Now, nearly a decade after its original February 26, 2016 release on Jennings’ own Black Country Rock label, the record’s genre-blurring DNA — outlaw country, synth-disco, cinematic pop — feels more culturally resonant than ever. The album opens with an archival vocal from Waylon Jennings himself, threading the outlaw lineage directly into Moroder’s electronic cosmos. From there, Shooter creates a one-of-a-kind sound-collage journey through 80’s and 90’s culture, fusing innovative songwriting, fiddle-meets-synthesizer soundscapes, and guest appearances by Brandi Carlile, Marilyn Manson, the late country-rock pioneer Steve Young, and computer-game visionary Richard Garriott de Cayeux. The result is as unlikely as it is essential – a love letter to the ‘80s written in the language of outlaw country.

“I just started digging and researching and all of a sudden it hit me how much music Giorgio had made that had been an influence on me, even without knowing that it was him who was responsible for it,” says Shooter Jennings. “Hearing all that stuff and adapting it to live instruments was, in a way, showing people how ahead of his time he was. Dissecting his pieces, doing each part by part, and really understanding it from the inside…it made me fall in love with making music again, in a way.”

Countach (For Giorgio) proved both a critical and commercial sensation upon its arrival, with worldwide applause and placement on multiple year-end best-of lists from such publications as Rolling Stone, The Guardian, Consequence of Sound, Stereogum, and more while also peaking at #7 on Billboard’s “Top Dance Albums” – a remarkable crossover for an artist then still known primarily as the son of outlaw country legend Waylon Jennings. The chart placement affirmed the album’s genuine electronic roots as well as Shooter’s remarkable ability to reach audiences well beyond his core country following.

PRAISE FOR SHOOTER JENNINGS + COUNTACH (FOR GIORGIO)

“Welcome to the world of Shooter Jennings, a man who gives every impression of being on a singlehanded mission to keep country music as weird as possible… To Jennings’ immense credit, the album’s core sound genuinely works. It’s muscular and potent in a glossily undeniable 80s AOR anthem way, its elements seamlessly melded: the lonesome whine of the pedal steel guitar fits neatly among the panoply of vintage synth noises, as does the fiddle, which is frequently required to play motifs that sound more Middle Eastern than country.”
– THE GUARDIAN (****)

“With this mesmerizing and unexpected tribute to dance-music pioneer Giorgio Moroder, Shooter Jennings finally finds a way to combine all of his diverse influences. There’s outlaw country, moody prog rock, and soaring Eighties pop. It’s all tied together by the pop-culture geek mind of Jennings, who hides sonic Easter eggs throughout…
But the heart of the project remains the songs of Moroder,
which Jennings interprets with reverence. And a whole lotta synthesizer.”
– ROLLING STONE (15 GREAT ALBUMS YOU DIDN’T HEAR IN 2016)

“Countach (For Giorgio) is very much outlaw country – despite musically sounding nothing like the forefathers of the genre, or even the past work of Jennings himself… Fiddle plays alongside street-strutting guitars and four-on-the-floor percussion. Like Neil Young’s Trans, this contrast results in a more metallic, futuristic version of country, or – to flip the script – a more humanistic version of electronica.
– CONSEQUENCE

“The album manages to bring together several of (Jennings’) favorite artists, all very unique.”
– BILLBOARD

“The concept of country rocker Shooter Jennings covering disco originator Giorgio Moroder is bizarre enough to be an early contender for album of the year.”
– AV CLUB

“The weirdest country album of 2016.”
– STEREOGUM

JARED JAMES NICHOLS is pleased to share his new single, “Killing Time,” the third track taken from his upcoming fourth studio album, ‘Louder Than Fate,’ due out on June 5, 2026 via Frontiers Music Srl. The single arrives alongside an official video, available below.

Raw, unapologetic, and deeply rooted in the lineage of blues-driven hard rock, “Killing Time” captures NICHOLS at the peak of his creative confidence, channeling grit, groove, and soul with relentless intensity while setting the tone for what promises to be his most powerful and fully realized album to date. The song was written & recorded in Nashville with Roger Alan Nichols (Larkin Poe, Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown, Hayley Williams) producing. The video for “Killing Time” was shot in the basement of Halestorm Manor (Lzzy & Joe from Halestorm’s house).

JARED comments on the new track:

“‘Killing Time’ is not being able to cut the loss of a relationship when you know you have to move on. It’s about walking a lonely path while hanging onto hope, even when all is lost. Every stripped-down chord echoes the regret of moments thrown away and words left unsaid. Writing this song was a personal reminder that it is OK to close chapters and move on to new beginnings.”

A set of record-release shows kicks off in Teaneck, NJ, on May 29th, and a list of his upcoming live dates can be found below.

Watch the Official Video for “Killing Time” HERE

Produced and mixed by Jay Ruston (Anthrax, Stone Sour, Amon Amarth, Skindred, and Steel Panther) with additional production by Roger Alan Nichols (Larkin Poe, Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown and Hayley Williams of Paramore), ‘Louder Than Fate’ balances muscle and melody, combining thunderous riffs, searing solos, and emotionally charged vocals with a modern, punchy production. The songs move effortlessly between hard-hitting rock anthems and more reflective, dynamic moments, showcasing NICHOLS’ ability to fuse classic influences with a contemporary edge. Tracks like “Bending or Breaking” and “Killing Time” expand the sonic palette with subtle keyboards and cinematic string arrangements, adding depth without ever sacrificing power.

Since his breakout debut, JARED JAMES NICHOLS has built a reputation as one of the most electrifying guitarists and performers of his generation. Known for his unmistakable tone, fearless playing style, and commanding stage presence, he has toured extensively across the US and Europe, sharing stages with some of the biggest names in rock and earning praise from fans and critics alike.

‘Louder Than Fate’ is not just an album — it’s a declaration. A record that speaks to resilience, conviction, and the unstoppable force of an artist who plays every note as if it truly matters. Loud, honest, and deeply human, this is JARED JAMES NICHOLS at his absolute best.

NICHOLS comments on ‘Louder Than Fate’:

“I’m beyond excited for this record. I’ve been counting down the days until its release like it’s a personal holiday. If the singles are any hint for you, there are plenty of riffs ripping through the speakers like a buzz saw. But going deeper into the record, there are tons of different emotions and sounds that I have yet to explore as a singer/songwriter. I am personally thrilled to share different shades of myself on this record, giving so much more depth and insight to the listener. Get ready for ‘Louder than Fate’.”

Spring Tour Announced Supporting Sevendust

Today, following the success of their recent singles “Dead” and “Ego Death,” ATREYU are proud to announce their long awaited new studio album ‘The End is Not the End,’ set for release on April 24, 2026 via Spinefarm. To coincide with the announcement, the band also shares their new track “All For You,” alongside an official music video, available below.

On the new single “All For You,” ATREYU comments:

“It’s hard to give someone what they want or need when they don’t know what that thing is. It’s hard to love someone who doesn’t love themselves.”

Watch the Music Video for “All For You” HERE

‘The End is Not the End’ is undeniably ATREYU’s heaviest album ever and their most adventurous. “We realized what made ATREYU great in the beginning was that we didn’t sound like anyone else,” frontman Brandon Saller explains. “We didn’t really make sense anywhere. We weren’t an emo band, a metal band, a punk band — but somehow it all worked. We kind of just carved our own path.”

Guitarists Dan Jacobs and Travis Miguel, bassist Porter McKnight, drummer Kyle Rosa, and Saller created several of ‘The End is Not the End’’s songs on creative trips.

“Tokyo made us feel like kids again,” Saller says. “We’d write for a few hours in the morning, then go out and get lost in all this inspiration. The first song we finished was ‘Dead,’ and we knew we were onto something.”

After the Japanese sessions, the band and their producer decamped to San Juan Island off the coast of Washington, where isolation became a creative accelerant. “It was the polar opposite of Tokyo. We didn’t leave the house for four days and wrote some of the heaviest songs on the record.”

The result is an album that feels simultaneously classic and unfamiliar, aggressive and unselfconscious, deeply emotional and unconcerned with trends. Produced by Matt Pauling, ATREYU’s tenth album is vibrant, inventive, and beautifully aggressive.

“It’s our heaviest, most metal record we’ve made,” Saller points out. “But it’s also the biggest musical journey we’ve taken in years.”

The album moves seamlessly from soaring melodic heft to muscular metallic weight, with cinematic shades and atmosphere, all tied together by a driving, raw intensity. Tracks like “Dead,” “Ghost in Me,” “Children of Light (featuring Max Cavalera),” and “Afterglow” sound both timely and timeless.

GOBLIN METAL IKONS NEKROGOBLIKON RETURN WITH THE BOILING SEA EP

BAND SHARES VIDEO FOR “THE SECRET ELEPHANT” (FEAT. REEL BIG FISH)

Goblin metal’s least likely legends are back. After nearly two decades of chaos, cult stardom, and the viral mayhem of “No One Survives,” Nekrogoblikon return with The Boiling Sea — the feral new EP that ushers in a historic era for the band. It arrives on April 17. Pre-order it here.

Today, the goblin metallers drop the video for “The Secret Elephant” (Feat. Reel Big Fish).

Watch the video, directed by Brandon Dermer, here.

For the first time ever, the goblin throne is shared. Former mascot-turned-frontman (and beloved host of the number one comedy podcast “RIGHT NOW”), John Goblikon steps fully into the spotlight with soaring melodic vocals, while extreme metal phenom Dickie Allen (of Infant Annihilator) unleashes the kind of throat-shredding brutality usually reserved for apocalyptic events.

“I’ve been asked to give a statement on our new song ‘Secret Elephant’ and after strong consideration, I’ve decided I’m not quite sure know what that means. But what I DO know is secrets don’t make friends… unless that secret is, of course, an elephant who you happened to befriend. Yhey also say an elephant never forgets, but goblins definitely do, because I literally can’t remember where I put my phone! I had it earlier and then I got distracted by this email asking me for a quote about our new song ‘Secret Elephant,’ which is such a banger by the way. Ooh, that reminds me I gotta look for my phone!” — Sent from John’s iPhone.

“It was so much fun filming ourselves being goofballs,” says Allen. “Also, has anyone seen my beer?”

Produced and mixed by metal mastermind Jason Suecof (Job for a Cowboy, The Black Dahlia Murder), The Boiling Sea is a high-octane proving ground for the band’s new dual-vocal onslaught, first teased by the 2025 double-feature videos for “Show Me Your Goblin” and “Fiend.”

On the upcoming release, guitarist Alex Alereza offers, “Writing for this release began in the midst of constant touring and right after bringing on a new vocal duo, so we found ourselves in new territories both in terms of pace and creative process. And that ended up being a good thing! We had a blast making this together and hope everyone enjoys these songs as much as we do. And for the Nekro fans that have been with us for a very long time, we decided to include live recordings of five Nekro classics!”

The goblin horde won’t stay submerged for long. Nekrogoblikon will hit the road on an electrifying tour alongside Japan’s genre-smashing metal force Hanabie., giving fans the chance to witness the premier goblin metal spectacle live and scream along to their favorite anthems. Get tickets here.

Nearly 20 years in, Nekrogoblikon aren’t just surviving — they’re boiling over.
