THE MENZINGERS ANNOUNCE 7TH STUDIO ALBUM

‘SOME OF IT WAS TRUE’
OUT OCTOBER 13

WATCH MUSIC VIDEO FOR LEAD SINGLE “HOPE IS A DANGEROUS LITTLE THING”

US HEADLINING TOUR STARTING NOV. 9

More than 15 years in, treasured Philadelphia punk rockers The Menzingers have cemented a multi-decade reputation as road warriors with an unbeatable catalog. Today they expand their impressive repertoire with the announcement of their seventh studio album, Some Of It Was True, due for release on October 13th via Epitaph Records. Pre-order it HERE

Vocalist and guitarist Greg Barnett reveals, “Written over the last two and a half years in hotels, backstages, basements, and rehearsal rooms and recorded during a life-changing retreat down south, ‘Some Of It Was True’ is the most realized version of what we set out to do when we started this band 17 years ago—have fun and be ourselves.” The band also shares the record’s lead single and accompanying music video, “Hope Is A Dangerous Little Thing” that balances confessional lyrics with an anthemic edge.

Four years since the release of 2019’s Hello Exile, the Menzingers presented an EP of acoustic reworks (From Exile, 2020) that saw the band “flex their creative muscles and make the most of their time away from each other in quarantine” according to Chorus.FM. Subsequently, Gregor Barnett’s solo record Don’t Go Throwing Roses In My Grave (2022) was praised by Kerrang! for its “clear-eyed songwriting never wavers.” This was around the time when Some Of It Was True started to come together.

Joined by Grammy-nominated producer Brad Cook (Bon Iver, the War on Drugs, Waxahatchee), the foursome took off to El Paso, Texas to record at the legendary Sonic Ranch. Lending his incredible ear, Cook helped accomplish the daunting task of capturing the Menzingers’ distinctive live energy within the confines of a studio. What results is their most immediate-sounding and energetic record to date, featuring a sound that’s both rich, raw, and complementary to the group’s increasingly prismatic songwriting approach.
“The Menzingers are as real as it gets,” Cook says on his time in the studio with the band. “I had an absolute blast working with these guys and was moved to tears many times. They are truly dedicated to artistic growth, and to each other, in ways I found both refreshing and beautiful. I am now a lifer.”

Speaking on the impact that Cook had on the band, Tom May says, “Brad massively changed the way we were approaching the record. We’d talk about music and develop a vocabulary about how to work together, and that made us embrace chasing the feeling instead worrying about locking in things immediately.

“Lyrically, Some Of It Was True is a showcase for how the band’s songwriting has expanded beyond their own personal experiences, drawing from what’s happening around them and the lives of those who keep this world’s lifeforce pumping. Acknowledging that they’re in a very different place than when they formed in 2008, this album embraces change and it’s definitely for the better. “This record just feels different for us,” Barnett explains. “It’s a really important one in our catalog, and a pivotal moment in our history. We have the liberty of our fans growing with us now, and after writing these lyrical songs about where we are in life, we decided to take other peoples’ stories and make something bigger out of it.”

Concert Review: 8/6/23 Pantera, Lamb of God, Child Bite The Pavilion, Scranton, PA

Pantera, Lamb of God, Child Bite

Sunday, August 6th, 2023
The Pavilion at Montage Mountain
Scranton, PA

Our Score: 4.5 out of 5 stars

Child Bite from Detroit, Michigan started the evenings festivities, with a manic fueled set of punk tinged metal which grabbed listeners attention however, I am not completely sure if it was the four pieces mixture of spastic stage moves and chaotic songs structure or if it was that they were actually enjoying what was being performed. Thankfully the set was brief and the minimal change over time made up for it as veteran Richmond, VA metalers Lamb of God would hit the stage next with a bombastic barrage of stacatoing guitars and rumbling double bass which shook the venue from front back and side to side as frontman Randy Blythe led the ever growing crowd through songs like “Walk With Me in Hell”, “Ruin” and, “Omens”. Blythe paused briefly during the 40 plus minute set to help energize the crowd and to elecit multiple sing-alongs which echoed throughout the mountainous venue. Before leaving the stage for the night the band dedicated their final song “Redneck” to the fallen Abbott brothers which garnered the loudest crowd response thus far.

As the closing notes rang out and with lingering pyro smoke still hanging in the air a giant banner emblazoned with the Pantera logo was dropped from the ceiling shielding the now tightly packed crowds view of the stage. With Clips of the bands “Vulgar Videos” showing on the sides screens and the band blasting through the PA, the curtain would be dropped as the band layed into a thunderous version of the song “A New Level” from the “Vulgar Display of Power” album. The band which now consists of founding members Phil Anselmo and Rex Brown has been completed with the addition of Anthrax’s Charlie Benanti on drums and Ozzy Osbourne/Black Label Society guitarist Zakk Wylde filling in for the dearly departed Vinnie Paul and Dimebag Darrell. The band looked and sounded great as they flawlessly plowed through tracks such as “Mouth for War”, ” 5 minutes Alone” and “This Love” with reckless abandance and ease. On stage banter was kept to a minimum as the show seemed to be very regimented and only paused briefly allowing for Anselmo address the crowd with his signature gravely growl. The shows production was top knotch as it included tons of corresponding visuals, dual lighted CFH logos flanked both sides of the stage and a giant flaming Pantera sign hung high above the band. Anselmo may not jump and stalk the stage as he did in his younger years his performance he sounded really good and I think the lesser movement helped with that. Bassist Rex Brown popped his foot up on the monitors in his signature lanky pose like no time had passed at all. With easily the largest shoes to fill both Charlie Benanti and Zakk Wylde showed why they were the obvious choices for these jobs. Both players showcased their high level of musician ship by not only nailing the performance side of each song but also capturing a number of the nuances that both Abbott brothers were known for.

Though you can never replace the loss of the original members and the twenty two years since the bands last performance certainly have taken a toll in one way or another on the original two members however I can tell you that the bands current line and production captures nearly all the elements of the original with an air of aged perfection which fans both new and old will surely enjoy banging their head to. With lots of dates remaining you will surely want to catch this show if it comes to your town.

2023 TOUR DATES ANNOUNCED

Singer/songwriter/guitarist, Emily Wolfe today releases her powerful new song, “Walk In My Shoes,” via Crows Feet Records.

“Walk In My Shoes” kicks off with a compelling recording of a protest echoing words heard across the United States in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe V. Wade, “My Body, My Choice.” The new single hones in on issues that are very important to Emily, specifically bodily autonomy and LGBTQ+ rights.

Emily says, “‘Walk in My Shoes’ was inspired by the actual sound of a protest rally that I attended the day after Roe V. Wade was overturned. As I marched alongside others, I took an iPhone recording of the sounds of women marching, hitting pots and pans with sticks in sync, shouting into megaphones, and rising up against the oppression that comes with political injustice.”

The new song follows the release of Emily’s 2021 album Outlier which was celebrated by fans and critics alike, receiving praise from publications like American Songwriter, Guitar World, Parade Magazine, and Atwood Magazine who said, “Outlier is a dynamic and energetic frenzy finely balancing chaos with artistic control.”

Just released in June 2023, Epiphone / Gibson announced the newest edition to the Emily Wolfe signature guitar line, the White Wolfe. This is the second guitar Epiphone / Gibson have released for Emily, following the Sheraton Stealth, released in 2021.

In addition to her skillfully crafted recorded music, Emily has generated excitement for her live performance as well, touring with artists like Heart, The Gaslight Anthem, and Neal Francis. Emily is currently on a US tour that will take her into 2024.

Robin Taylor Zander Discusses his work with Cheap Trick and his Debut Solo album “The Distance”

Robin Taylor Zander is the son of Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Robin Zander. Not only do the two share a familial bond but they are also bandmates as RTZ has been performing in a variety of roles with legendary rock group Cheap Trick since 2014. When he is not playing guitar, bass or drums with the Rockford, Illinois natives RTZ is writing and recording his own material. “The Distance” showcases not only RTZ’s talents as a solo artist (he wrote and performed very part of the album himself) but helps sets the foundation for the multi-instrumentalist to step out of the shadows of his famous father while forging his own path into the rock history books.

[photo credit: Chuck Brueckmann]With their latest single “Everything” moving up the Active Rock radio charts and just three days until their new album is available worldwide, GRAMMY® Award-nominated SEVENDUST is releasing another piece of music from Truth Killer – the band’s 14th studio album and first via Napalm Records.

“Superficial Drug” is an introspective rocker that showcases the band’s dynamic approach to melody – something that has always been the backbone of SEVENDUST’s signature sound. The band – Lajon Witherspoon, Clint Lowery, John Connolly, Vince Hornsby and Morgan Rose – reunited with director J.T. Ibanez (P.O.D., Loveless, Orianthi) for the third time to create visuals to support Truth Killer. The video features the band performing as cloaked figures representing “superficial drugs” try and overtake the band.

Watch the music video for “Superficial Drug” HERE:

From the introspective opening of “I Might Let The Devil Win” to the classic SEVENDUST sound of “Fence,” the twelve songs on Truth Killer demonstrate that the band sounds as relevant today as they did on their 1997 self-titled debut. “Truth Killer,” “No Revolution” and “Holy Water” combine elements of the classic SEVENDUST sound with modern updates, pointing their lyrical lens at the world today and showcasing the musical diversity that has won the band a legion of loyal fans. The first song released was the album closer, “Fence,” accompanied by a claymation music video directed and animated by Ollie Jones.

The band also released recent music videos for “Everything” and “Holy Water”. Producer, friend and collaborator Michael “Elvis” Baskette returned to produce Truth Killer.

Our Score 4 out of 5 stars

Donner continues bringing affordable, high quality music products to the consumer market and their latest offering, the Mamp5 Stereo Amplifier/Receiver is no exception. The great sounding, powerful amplifier/receiver combo will bring your home theater system to a whole new level. With a whopping peak power rating of 440 watts (100W x 4) which can be split across 4 independently controlled channels the compact unit is capable of powering 4 groups of 8 speakers giving users plenty of connectivity options. The various input modes allow users to connect via SD card, USB, RCA and ECHO Microphone. Each input utilizes the receivers bass and treble features and for the karaoke fans you have a separate microphone volume control which will certainly come in handy at that next house party.

Where I found the Mamp5 to really shine was through its Bluetooth 5.0 connection and HD Screen. The most recent Bluetooth system allowed for a quick and stable connection that even as I moved through my house provide tremendous clarity and zero drop issues. The HD LED display was bright and easy to read from across the room as the subtle blue lighting really popped and made switching between the connections and adjustments quite easy no matter if you were up close or further away.

The only negative I found with this unit was the included wireless remote. The remote is quite small and pretty flimsy. Yes the feature is a nice add however it just doesn’t match up to the system which over all is built quite well. That aside with a price tag of just $159.99 the Donner Mamp5 Amplifier/Receiver is a great addition or upgrade to any home theater/stereo system that won’t break the bank.

STAIND RELEASE NEW SINGLE & VIDEO “CYCLE OF HURTING”

NEW ALBUM, CONFESSIONS OF THE FALLEN AVAILABLE SEPTEMBER 15, 2023
FIRST NEW STUDIO ALBUM IN TWELVE YEARS

STAIND CO-HEADLINE TOUR WITH GODSMACK BEGINS
JULY 18 @ ST LOUIS

Multi-platinum rock band, Staind has dropped a new single, “Cycle of Hurting” from their forthcoming album, Confessions of the Fallen. The track is available today on all music platforms. Buy/stream single HERE

Watch animated video for “Cycle of Hurting” HERE

Staind’s highly anticipated new album, Confessions of the Fallen – the band’s first new studio album since 2011 – will be released September 15, 2023 via Alchemy Recordings/BMG.

Variants of the album including limited-edition orange vinyl, and other exclusive merch items are available through album pre-order HERE

The 10 tracks featured on Confessions of the Fallen explore a variety of sonic niches. Debut single “Lowest In Me” (currently top 5 on the active rock chart), “Cycle of Hurting, “Was Any of it Real?” and “Hate Me Too” pummel forth with unrelenting fury, the electronics enhancing the frenetic attack from the players. Tracks such as “Out of Time,” “In This Condition” and “The Fray” are marked by ebb-and-flow arrangements and sweeping dynamic changes, while “Here and Now” and the cautiously optimistic “Better Days” remind us that Staind is no stranger to the pretty – when appropriate, that is.

Lyrically, Confessions of the Fallen draws again from those dark, reflective places Lewis has always mined in Staind’s songs, and these 10 songs are as personal as he’s ever been. “I’m still working through my issues,” says Aaron. “Still working through my problems, and until then I’ll dream of better days. I hope that’s how everybody feels right now…better days are yet to come.”

A legion of Staind fans will certainly find their better days in these new songs from the band, and in a new round of touring that includes a co-headlining trek with good pals Godsmack this summer.

Better Lovers (The Dillinger Escape Plan/Every Time I Die) Release God Made Me An Animal EP; Tour Begins July 13

BETTER LOVERS’ DEBUT EP, GOD MADE ME AN ANIMAL,

BAND FEATURING MEMBERS OF EVERY TIME I DIE, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, AND FIT FOR AN AUTOPSY KICK OFF INAUGURAL TOUR ON JULY 13

Better Lovers, the newly formed band featuring Jordan Buckley, Clayton “Goose” Holyoak, Stephen Micciche, Greg Puciato, and Will Putney, have released God Made Me An Animal, a four-song EP, via SharpTone Records.

“Surprise! Our debut EP, God Made Me An Animal, is out now,” the band shared, collectively. “Four eclectic and wildly fun songs we’ve been kicking around for what feels like forever, it’s great to finally have these out in the world. Let it happen to you. Hear all this and more on tour all Summer. The engine is turned on.”

The EP arrives as Better Lovers are about to embark on their inaugural tour, a mix of both headlining dates, with several already sold out, and performances with Underoath. The tour begins in Buffalo, N.Y., the hometown of Buckley, Holyoak and Micciche, on July 13.

God Made Me An Animal follows the April release of the outfit’s debut single, “13 Over 30,” and its accompanying video (https://youtu.be/TU-nwWuyKXc). The track, which was the first news of the band’s existence, jolted fans and critics alike. Consequence said “Better Lovers signaled their arrival with a crushing banger of the highest order,” Alternative Press dubbed the song as “ripping,” Kerrang! described the release as “ferocious,” and Revolver added that the track “delivers on the group’s pedigree, offering up all the scabrous screams, mathcore riffery and rawk grooves fans could hope for.”

“Looking back, I’m so happy everything got me to where I am,” said Buckley at the time of the song’s release. “The pandemic and the last few years made me hungrier and more grateful. This isn’t a hobby. This isn’t temporary. This is the next evolution for each of us. Greg and Will rejuvenated me and made me even more confident. Now, everybody needs to know we’re a wild animal that just broke out of the zoo—there’s no trying to put it back in the cage.”

God Made Me An Animal, which was produced and mixed by Putney with vocal production handled by Josh Wilbur, is streaming now, with physical pre-orders, including several limited-edition vinyl variants and CD, are available here: https://bfan.link/god-made-me-an-animal.

Phase one of the collection launched for pre-order earlier this month in England through a partnership with London’s legendary THREE AMIGOS SKATESHOP, the first retail shop in the world to release offerings from the line, in advance of GWAR’S recent June UK headline dates.

It really doesn’t get much cooler than that. What the Hell do alien overlords want with skateboards? No fucking idea. We tried to ask Blothar, but he just grunted and screamed “BOW, HUMAN SCUM”. Still not exactly sure what he meant by that, but that sword is sharp.”

After the stabbing, Blothar the Berserker added “Me on a skateboard is like a bowling ball on a roller skate, but when I was a younger space alien overlord, I was King of the Darkslide. These boards and all this cool stuff makes me want to strap one on and break a hip!”

With the band in the middle of an extensive European tour and their debut single “Another Celebration at the End of the World” in the Top 10 at Active Rock radio in the US, Mammoth WVH – the brainchild of Wolfgang Van Halen – is releasing another song from the upcoming album. “Take A Bow” is the third song released from the 10-track album Mammoth II that is slated for release on August 4th via BMG. “Take A Bow” is the longest track on the record and in the Mammoth WVH catalog clocking in at 6:54. The song is anchored by Wolfgang’s memorable lyrics, driving rhythm section and unforgettable guitar solo that was played on the original Frankenstein guitar and through his father’s original amps. The song is available via all digital service providers and anyone that pre-orders the album digitally will receive the track as an instant download. A lyric video for the new song can be seen here: https://youtu.be/Uo3QeXqkQcU.

“It was the last song we finished. It’s officially the longest song I’ve released to date, and I feel the guitar solo is really special. I played the solo on the original Frankenstein guitar and through Dad’s original Marshall head and one of the original cabinets. It’s straight up what he used on the earliest Van Halen records. It makes me happy to capture some of dad’s history on this song forever,” explains Wolfgang.

Continuing the tradition of writing all of the songs and performing all of the instrumentation and vocals himself, GRAMMY® Award nominee Wolfgang Van Halen set out to challenge himself to expand his sound beyond what people had already come to know him for. From the rocking opener “Right?” to Beatles-esque fade on closer “Better Than You” Mammoth II showcases the growth of Wolfgang as a songwriter, musician and especially vocalist.
