Our Score 3 out of 5 Stars
New York hardcore legends Agnostic Front returned to Syracuse, NY’s Song and Dance music venue on October 15th in support of the bands latest album release “Echoes In Eternity”. The evenings line up also featured performances from Beton Arme, Restraining Order and Street Hassle.
The upstate city of Syracuse, NY is certainly no stranger to hardcore music. The city has served as a breeding ground for the genre since the 90’s having spawned such legendary hardcore acts as The Promise, Earth Crisis and countless others. Playing host this night would be The Song and Dance a mid-sized sub-level venue which continues the legacy of music in the 315 area code with special attention payed to the college towns hardcore and metal roots.
After brief sets by support acts Beton Arme (Montreal, QC) Retraining Order (MA, USA) and locals Street Hassle the stage was set and the energy was primed for “The Godfathers of Hardcore” to hit the stage. From the opening notes of the thunderous “AF Stomp” to the closing buzz of “Blitzkreig Bop” the collective unit known as Agnostic Front got straight to the point and wasted very little time between songs. Vocalist Roger Miret shared the microphone multiple times through out the set allowing those pushed against the waist high stage to be apart of the evenings festivities most notably during the songs “Crucified” and “Gotta Go”. Guitarist Vinny Stigma moved about the stage like that of a performer 40 years his younger commanding attention and at one point left the stage while still playing to be instantly engulfed by a frenzied circling crowd.
Not to go without mention were the remainder of the band made up of bassist Mike Gallo, guitarist Craig Silverman and drummer Danny Lamagna who appeared locked in functioning like a Swiss time piece through each of the sets 17 songs with personal highlights including “The Eliminator”, “Victim in Pain” and “United Blood”.
With a set time clocking in at just under an hour and consisting of around 17 to 18 songs the band covered a decent amount of their catalog however I think there could have been time for maybe just a couple more songs. The the set was absent of any encores the band left the stage bathed in applause and cheer leaving the week night crowd smiling and fulfilled as they made their way up the venues granite steps. With just a few dates remaining on the Fall run you won’t want to miss these legends when they come to your city.
