2024 New York Comic Con
October 17-20th 2024
Jacob K. Javits Center, New York, NY
Our Score: 3.5 out of 5 Stars
Reed Pop’s highly successful New York Comic Con once again filled the massive halls of the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City for its annual celebration of all things pop-culture. With a line up of activities and guests rivaling the West Coast based San Diego Comic Con, “NYCC” continues to prove year after year that it is the premier East Coast destination for fandom.
This years event saw more than 200,000 attendees over the events four days and this years line up made it one of the hottest tickets in town only second to the Yankees and Mets playoff tickets. Notable film guests for 2024 included Orlando Bloom, Elizabeth Olson and Josh Brolin while Artist Alley included the biggest names in comics such as Greg Capullo, Adam Kubert and John Tyler Christopher amongst a laundry list of who’s who in the art and comics arena.
NYCC has also become the place for television and streaming services to showcase their upcoming releases and this years unveilings did not disappoint. Over the course of the weekend attendees were privy to drops like HBO’s “The Penguin” starring Colin Farrell, Apple TV’s “Shrinking” starring Harrison Ford and Jason Seigel as well as Disney +’s “Goosebumps” and a preview of FX’s final season of “What We Do in the Shadows”. Of course we also have to mention those who were lucky enough to snag a seat to panels unveiling clips from “M3GAN 2.0”, “Karate Kid: Legend” and the highly anticipated “Venom: The Last Dance” which included an appearance by none other than Venom himself Tom Hardy.
For those looking to bring home some of the newest and most exclusive pop culture memorabilia and collectibles the main show floor was the place to go as heavy hitters such as Funko, Neca and Topps provided con goers with expansive and vibrant displays showcasing upcoming release and show exclusive merchandise for purchase. Making their Industry debut this year was the newly formed Thrilljoy toy company. The brainchild of former Funko CEO Brian Mariotti and SVP of Licensing Dolly Ahluwalia, Eric Peng Cheng and MINDstyle International owner MD Young, Thrilljoy’s aim is to enhance the collector experience with their own unique spin on some of entertainments most well known licenses.
With so much going on from open to close each of the conventions four days it’s really hard to choose which direction you want to go in while at NYCC. There is just simply so much going on and so many attendees trying to make it through the multiple shows floors in one visit is nearly impossible. I am not sure you can even see and experience everything in the allotted four days as the conventions ever growing attendance seems to only be making it harder and harder each year to make a one day visit out of the event. From jammed escalators and bustling hallways to queue lines with wait times averaging in the hours you have to wonder when will the apex of growth be reach? After attending this years Con I don’t think that feat will be accomplished anytime soon. Pre-Sale tickets for 2025 are already currently available to this years attendees and based on Reed Pop’s track record fans already know to expect a bigger and better NYCC in 2025.
