Motörhead loved playing live and never ever judged their audiences. Everyone was encouraged, all were welcome. And that included people who like jazz! So when the Montreux Festival called requesting them, it made perfect sense in its own, unique way. ‘Tis worth noting, too, that the Festival has always been about stepping beyond the boundaries of that ‘J’ word, and embracing unique artists of all genres, styles and sensibilities, the only true consistent requirement being that they represent the best and most adventurous of their ilks. It is why, in the ‘artists played’ list, alongside a Dexter Gordon you’ll find a Deep Purple or a ZZ Top, and it’s why the Festival continues to attract a diverse roster of artists to its stage annually. The recordings of seminal performances such as these, were all given UNESCO heritage status in 2013, such is their value to the arts.

Cindy Wilson has always been on the forefront of music’s cutting-edge: As a founding member of The B-52’s, she was a pioneer of the New Wave sound that redefined music in the 1970s and ‘80s. I worked with Suny on a previous effort called Changes, and enjoyed working with him, so I asked him to do the next one, Realms. Since launching her first proper solo project in 2016, Wilson has released two EPs (Sunrise and Supernatural) and one studio album, Change, collaborating with producers and electronic musicians Suny Lyons and Ryan Monahan to cultivate a contemporary sound that cuts through today’s noise, while staying true to Wilson’s alternative and punk roots. Marrying her instantly recognizable vocals with a backdrop of dreamy, ambient, and dance-friendly music, Cindy Wilson has made a fresh name for herself that extends beyond her band’s legacy, establishing herself as a singular force in her own right.

To celebrate a Decade of Rock, the band will kick off touring in late August with some dates in Canada and the USA. Late October will see The Daisies head back to Japan followed by dates in the EU throughout November and December.

Returning to the line-up for this tour is the incomparable front man John Corabi. He joins his mates Doug Aldrich, David Lowy, and Brian Tichy with renowned Bass player Michael Devin (of Whitesnake fame) joining the band for the first time.

With the recent excitement around the announcement of Mammoth II and the success of the current single “Another Celebration at the End of the World,” Mammoth WVH – the brainchild of Wolfgang Van Halen – is releasing another song to fans. “Like a Pastime” is the second song on the upcoming sophomore album slated for release on August 4th via BMG. “It centers around a 4/4-time signature, but with a polyrhythm on top. I was teaching my fiancé what a polyrhythm is, and I stumbled upon this idea. The kick drums are accentuating it. It’s certainly one of my favorites and a completely different vibe than anything on the first album,” explains Wolfgang.

Continuing the tradition of writing all of the songs and performing all of the instrumentation and vocals himself, GRAMMY® Award nominee Wolfgang Van Halen set out to challenge himself to expand his sound beyond what people had already come to know him for. To celebrate the release of their thirteenth studio album, the Finnish gothic/glam goo-goo mucks have unveiled the official video for new track “This Murder Takes Two,” a special collaborative work featuring wonderful singer and tattoo artist, Kat Von D. Next to their unique brand of gloom and doom, of glam and wham, this song showcases the extraordinary nature of Death Of Darkness.

“John Carter Cash, Johnny Cash’s son, was in talks to record and produce an acoustic EP with us at Johnny Cash’s very own Cabin Studios in the US. We demoed some potential songs yet we ultimately never did this recording. This song somewhat just stuck with us,” remembers singer Jyrki 69. “It wasn’t complete without a female touch though, which is why we asked our good friend Kat Von D to sing on it. It’s my personal favorite [on the album].”

“It’s always such a pleasure working with THE 69 EYES boys. I’ve been such a huge fan of their music for so long. ‘This Murder Takes Two’ is such a special song. Even though it’s not the typical style of music that I am used to singing to, it was so much fun stepping out of my comfort zone. Confessions of the Fallen – Staind’s first new studio album since 2011 – cranks into life with debut single, “Lowest In Me,” that is both familiar and fresh.

The hallmarks of the sound the band established close to 30 years ago are all there — Aaron Lewis’ vocals flexing from melodic keening to a hellacious roar, Mike Mushok’s ferocious guitar muscling the track forward, Johnny April and Sal Giancarelli propelling it with industrial-strength energy. But sliding through are some new touches, electronic flavorings that give the song, as well as the rest of the 10-track album, a refreshed and contemporary sensibility, letting us know that it’s still Staind but that Staind has not been in a time capsule since its self-titled effort in 2011.

“I did want to modernize the sound and bring us up to date,” Lewis says. “You can certainly recognize the band but at the same time you can hear that we’ve been paying attention and understand what kind of sounds and approaches we can use that maybe weren’t around the last time we did this.” Adds Mushok, “It’s undeniably Aaron’s voice, and same for the songs. We got together and spent a lot of time focusing on direction, and we really like how it turned out.”

Carrying the same raw energy since their 1991 inception, Rancid has been deemed by Stereogum as “incapable of making a bad album.” Today, the Berkeley, California, punk stalwarts continue that streak with the announcement of their highly anticipated 10th studio album. ‘Tomorrow Never Comes’ is due for a June 2nd release via Epitaph Records, produced by longtime collaborator, Bad Religion guitarist and Epitaph founder, Brett Gurewitz.

Their first new music since 2017’s Trouble Maker, the band also shares the exhilarating title track and lead single today. Highlighting their collective ear for melodic rock hooks and catchy, sing-a-long choruses, the song is complete with the familiar wailing guitars and punishing punk rock rhythms that have solidified Rancid as the legends they are.

At a whopping 850 Million catalog streams to date, fans and critics alike seem to agree that Rancid’s brand of high impact, no frills punk still flows abundantly in their blood, while easily translating to a modern audience. Now embarking on their tenth full-length effort, this is evident throughout ‘Tomorrow Never Comes’. With its sixteen blistering tracks barely making the two-and-a-half-minute mark, the album boasts the same gritty, straight forward punk-with-a-purpose that the world just can’t get enough of.

On their last studio album, Trouble Maker (2017), Pitchfork explored the band’s themes of “contemporary political turmoil–blue-collar identity crises, tense demonstrations, the ever-present shadow of the Man– through the prism of their rebellious past, a little more wizened but just as rambunctious as ever.”
