3 Surprising Media Series with a Slot Game

There’s a lot of slot games out there, on sites like Paddy Power Games they have almost 200 slot games at any given time with new ones being adopted almost daily. That’s a lot of games offering the same rough content with a few different bonuses and pay-lines, how do you stand out in a market like that? Well, you pick a theme and you run with it. Ever since the Wheel of Fortune slot in the late ’70s, games that use popular movie and TV franchises as inspiration have been dotting the Las Vegas strip and the front page of online casinos.

While some of these seem perfectly sensible (a slot game based on Game of Thrones was a major draw, just as the series was in its heyday) but some of the series they’ve picked to adapt are a little… well, surprising.

The Naked Gun

Starring Leslie Nielson and directed by David Zucker, this 1988 comedy classic is spinning out of an already beloved TV series when it hit cinemas and was a critical and commercial success spawning two sequels in short order. While it’s a beloved movie, it’s hard to imagine there was a lot of clamouring for there to be a slot game made of it – and yet there it is! With scenes from the movie playing when you land certain pay-lines and random comedy bonuses that suit the irreverent tone of the film, the Naked Gun game is a great example of what you can expect when you play a slot game tied into a popular movie series.

Spinal Tap

Keeping things parody, This is Spinal Tap is a legendary mockumentary parodying the excesses and attitude of the ’80s glam-rock scene with constant band turn-over and fights with the manager about everything. Much like the Naked Gun, it’s hard to believe that anyone was hitting up developers on Twitter to get the game made. But now it’s here, may as well enjoy a game that perfectly emulates the idiosyncratic style of the movie, with a volume dial that randomly slides up to 11 and offers bonuses when it does. It’s a nice contrast to the ones based on real rock bands like Guns ‘n’ Roses.

Vikings

Despite how amazing the series is, finding out Vikings was worthy of a slot game tie-in is likely to come as a surprise to the majority of fans. Based on the sagas of Ragnar Lothbrok, one of the famous heroes of Nordic history, the show eventually focuses more on his wife and sons as the timelines moves forward. With the impressive feats of Ragnar, Lagertha and Bjorn from the TV series taken as inspiration, the game evokes the battlefields of the show and offers features that feel like the fight scenes translated into a game. Shield-walls can be triggered that transform a selection of symbols into a winning combo and Raid spins to emulate the Viking raids of the show. While it may not enjoy as much success as Game of Thrones, Vikings has clearly made it to the big time if it’s earned a slot game!
