“Fresh Off The Bloat Tour”

Tickets Go On Sale July 21 Via http://margaretcho.com/tour/

TNT Order New Comedic Drama “Highlands” Starring Margaret Cho To Pilot.

Five time Grammy & Emmy nominated comedian Margaret Cho has much to celebrate as she was recently named one of Rolling Stone magazine’s 50 Best Stand-Up Comics of All Time and is set to launch what is sure to be her sickest stand-up comedy show to date this fall. A pioneer amongst women in comedy, Margaret doesn’t take anything for granted as she continues to tackle difficult subjects with sensitivity and her razor sharp insight with her takes on addiction, abuse, activism and Asianness. It’s all about the politics of disgust and what is disgusting about politics. Aptly titled, “Fresh Off The Bloat,” Margaret says, ““Fresh Off The Bloat” is my sickest show to date. My grandmother said “You look like bloated as if you’ve been found dead in a lake after several days of searching.” Koreans are the most savage of all the Asians. My new show is all about being fresh off drugs and drinking and suicide and coming back to life – finally fished out of the river Styx. It’s meta. It’s magical. It’s me.”

The initial “Fresh Off The Bloat” tour dates go on sale Friday, July 21 here: http://margaretcho.com/tour/ – Please note that the December 6 show in Belgium will go on sale July 20. Additional dates to be announced in the coming weeks.

Margaret’s new TV project Highland has been picked up for pilot by TNT Network. Highland will chronicle what happens when two extended, dysfunctional Korean-American families who share the same patriarch must come together after tragedy strikes. As it turns out, the most reliable person in both families is the one who just got out of rehab.
“Executive producer Liz Sarnoff (Lost,Barry) and Margaret Cho’s brilliant script exposes Margaret’s warm heart and bracing humor, balancing powerful emotional truths with laugh-out-loud scenes and characters,” said Sarah Aubrey, executive vice president of original programming for TNT. “Highland continues TNT’s commitment to bringing diverse voices and worlds to television. We look forward to making a pilot with such a singular talent as Margaret Cho.”

Concert Review: Slipknot “This Summer’s Last Stand Tour” Darien Center, NY

“This Summer’s Last Stand Tour”
Slipknot, Lamb of God, Bullet for My Valentine, Motionless in White
Date: Wednesday, July 29th 2015
Venue: Darien Lake Performing Arts Center, Darien Center, NY

Our Score: 4 out of 5 stars

Slipknot’s “Summers Last Stand Tour” made a stop at the Darien Lake Performing Arts Center in Darien Center on July 29th. Along with the masked 9 piece band from Iowa was Lamb of God, Bullet for My Valentine and Motionless in White. With a line up this impressive the energy outside was running high and as the night progressed each act did a great job building on that energy.

Opening up the night was Scranton, Pennsylvania’s very own Motionless in White. The band performed a brief set which included songs off of each of the bands 3 albums. Though fans were still making their way into the venue those who were able to get through the slow moving security lines were treated to a solid performance by the up and coming metal band. Bullet for My Valentine would take the stage next performing a handful of songs off their upcoming album titled “Venom” in between the new tracks were fans favorites such as “Raising Hell” and “Waking the Demon” which both were definite highlights of the bands set.

Virginia metalers Lamb of God were up next and instantly took the night to the next level. Flanked by large video screens and an impressive lighting rig the visual elements of the show seemed much higher than previous shows by the band. Vocalist Randy Blythe stalked the stage like a deranged psycho path stalking his next victim while spewing out thought provoking lyrics. Drummer Chris Adler laid an impressive rhythmic path which guitarists Mark Morton, Will Adler and bassist John Campbell followed beautifully. The band performed a few songs from their recently released “VII: Sturm Und Drang” along with such LOG classics as “Ghostwalking” and “Laid to Rest” with the always prevalent “Redneck” closing out the set. The band sounded and looked better than ever which made for a great show experience. Shortly after the members of Lamb of God left the stage two giant red curtains emblazoned with large black S logos would close of view of the stage. As the anticipation built so did the crowd which seemed to almost double from when the house lights first came on.

Once the lights came back down and Slipknots “XIX” began playing through the PA it was on. Front man Cory Taylor dominated the stage as the band performed a variety of songs ranging from their break out hit “Wait and Bleed” to newer songs such as “The Devil and I” and “Before I Forget”. DJ Sid Wilson provided a bevy of entertainment as he jigged and shook his way around the impressive stage which included a giant devil head. Guitarist Mick Thompson and Jim Root handled the 6 string duties perfectly while new members drum Jay Weinberg and bassist Alessandro Venturella handled a fair share of the rhythmic duties which were highlighted at times by the addition of Shawn “Clown” Crahan and Chris Fehn. The band as a whole sounded better than ever and performed this night at the top of their game.

With a number of dates left on the “Summers Last Stand Tour” you would be doing yourself a tremendous disservice if you don’t catch one of the remaining dates. Each of the four bands leave nothing on the table making the night worthy of the price of admission and then some.

Blu-ray Review “Stand Up Guys”

Starring: Al Pacino, Christopher Walken, Alan Arkin, Julianna Margulies, Mark Margolis
Director: Fisher Stevens
Rated: R (Restricted)
Studio: Lions Gate
Release Date: May 21, 2013
Run Time: 95 minutes

Film: 3 out of 5 stars
Extras: 3.5 out of 5 stars

In terms of talent in this film, I would give it an extra star just for the cast. Academy Award winners Al Pacino, Christopher Walken and Alan Arkin are all amazing together. Al Pacino never stand out better, well maybe his role in “Jack & Jill” might top this 😉 They are very funny and these guys actually get into their characters. Actor Fisher Stevens, who I just watching this week in “The Burning” (Fun fact: which was his first acting role), continues to give directing a go and he does a great job with this crime comedy. The film itself is decent.  It is probably not something I would plan on revisiting in the future.  But nonetheless it is still worth a watch if you are a fan of the film’s cast.

Official Premise: “Stand Up Guys” stars Academy Award winners Al Pacino, Christopher Walken and Alan Arkin as retired gangsters who reunite for one epic last night. But one of the friends is keeping a dangerous secret – he has to kill his friend, and his time to find an acceptable alternative is running out. As the sun rises on the guys’ reunion, their position becomes more and more desperate and they finally confront their pasts once and for all.

Lionsgate is delivering this film as a Blu-ray combo pack with an Ultraviolet digital copy.  This is becoming a trend with them recently and leaving out the DVD copy. The film itself both looks and sounds great on Blu-ray, especially with the exclusive music from Jon Bon Jovi.  The special features including an audio commentary with Director Fisher Stevens, which is worth checking out if you liked the film.  There are also three featurettes on the production including “The American Muscle: The Stand Up Stunt Driving Scenes”, “The Lowdown On Making Stand Up Guys” and “The Stand Up Songs Of Jon Bon Jovi”. Lastly there are few deleted scenes included as well.

Film Review "The Last Stand"

Starring: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Johnny Knoxville, Forest Whitaker and Luis Guzman
Directed by: Jee-woon Kim
Rated: R
Running time: 1 hour 47 mins
Lionsgate

Our Score: 4 out of 5 stars

There must be something in the water in California. In 1967, actor Ronald Reagan began the first of two terms as Governor. In 2003, actor Arnold Schwarzenegger did the same. But the similarities don’t end there. Both were succeeded in office by Jerry Brown (ironically, Reagan succeeded Jerry Brown’s father). After leaving office both went on to be President. OK, just kidding there, though I’m sure it’s only the fact that, because he was born in Austria, Schwarzenegger is constitutionally prohibited from running for the office. No, now that the politics are over Schwarzenegger is back in the movie game. And he picked a good one right out of the chute.

Las Vegas. As a state trooper sits parked on the dark desert road outside of town he is startled by the roar of an engine outside. He sees nothing in the dark except his radar gun screen, flashing 197. Angered he radios in to complain about the Air Force flying their jets low to the ground. Down the highway, in the little border town of Sommerton, the local high school football team is heading out for a trip to the state championships, as is most of the town. Staying behind is Sheriff Ray Owens (Schwarzenegger), a former Los Angeles drug cop who left the city behind years ago. With most of the townsfolk away for the weekend, Ray envisions an easy weekend, turning over the care of the town to his three deputies. But fate has other ideas.

Smoothly directed and featuring characters that rise above being one dimensional, “The Last Stand” could be an old episode of “Gunsmoke,” with its theme of the law versus the bad guys. Ray is Matt Dillon while his three well meaning but inexperienced deputies (Guzman, Zach Gilford and Jaimie Alexander) are Festus. Sommerton is Dodge City and drug cartel leader Gabriel Cortez (Eduardo Noriega) is the bad guy. And what a bad guy he is. No fewer than a dozen members of law enforcement are killed when Cortez escapes federal custody, aided in his escape by a Corvette ZR-1, a car so fast that, when an attempt is made to pursue it the police are told it’s faster than their helicopter. A fast car always equals car chases and director Kim does not disappoint. In fact, all of the extreme action scenes staged by Kim are quite impressive. His camera continually moves, putting the viewer in the car and taking them along for the ride.

Cast wise it appears that Schwarzenegger still knows how to hit his mark. Now 66, the Austrian Oak has lost a step or two and isn’t afraid to acknowledge it. It’s also great to see Forest Whitaker in a role worthy of his talent. As the head of the FBI team tracking Cortez, he gets to chew a little scenery for once. Peter Stormare is in full crazy-guy mode (think of his role in “Fargo”). I’ve been a fan of Luis Guzman’s since the late 1980s so it’s always great to see him on screen. Speaking of a crazy guy, Johnny Knoxville rounds out the cast as the local goof with one hell of a gun collection.

Action icon Arnold Schwarzenegger makes his much-anticipated return to the big screen in Korean director Kim Jee-woon’s hard-hitting US directorial debut, THE LAST STAND.

After leaving his LAPD narcotics post following a bungled operation that left him wracked with remorse and regret, Sheriff Ray Owens (Schwarzenegger) moved out of Los Angeles and settled into a life fighting what little crime takes place in sleepy border town Sommerton Junction. But that peaceful existence is shattered when Gabriel Cortez (Eduardo Noriega), the most notorious, wanted drug kingpin in the western hemisphere, makes a deadly yet spectacular escape from an FBI prisoner convoy.

With the help of a fierce band of lawless mercenaries led by the icy Burrell (Peter Stormare), Cortez begins racing towards the US-Mexico border at 250 mph in a specially-outfitted Corvette ZR1 with a hostage in tow. Cortez’ path: straight through Summerton Junction, where the whole of the U.S. law enforcement, including Agent John Bannister (Forest Whitaker) will have their final opportunity to intercept him before the violent fugitive slips across the border forever.
At first reluctant to become involved, and then counted out because of the perceived ineptitude of his small town force, Owens ultimately rallies his team and takes the matter into his own hands, setting the stage for a classic showdown.

Arnold Schwarzenegger stars in THE LAST STAND. Directed by Kim Jee-woon and written by Andrew Knauer and Jeffrey Nachmanoff, THE LAST STAND also stars Forest Whitaker, Eduardo Noriega, Rodrigo Santoro, Johnny Knoxville, Jaimie Alexander, Luis Guzmán, Peter Stormare, Zach Gilford and Genesis Rodriguez. The film is produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura (the TRANSFORMERS series, RED, GI JOE, SALT).”
