Release Date: July 17, 2012
Running Time: 96 minutes

Film: 3.5 out of 5 stars

When it comes to the early work of Steven Seagal, it doesn’t get much better. I have always been a fan of this movie and it is a great follow-up for Seagal after “Above the Law”. Also who doesn’t love looking at Kelly LeBrock in 1990 (and I stress 90’s, have you see her recently?). Warner has been releasing it catalog titles recently and this is the latest of the bunch. For hardcore fans of Seagal, I would definitely recommend this title.

What do you need to know about the premise? Honestly, it’s Steven Seagal and he kicks some baddie ass. He plays Detective Mason Storm, who falls into a coma after being shot during a fire-fight that killed his wife Felicia and son Sonny. When he reawakens seven to find that he son is actually alive, he heads out to get revenge with the help of his nurse and his old partner.

The Blu-ray presentation is very impressive. Warner did a rally fine job with the 1080p transfer and definitely looks sharp. The audio track is also impressive with its Dolby Digital 5.1 track, works well with the film’s action. Lastly like all the recently catalog films Warner has not included an special features. Though if you are looking for a straight forward HD release of this film and a low-cost, look no further.

DVD Review “Kill Speed”

Directed by: Kate Bass
Starring: Nick Carter, Andrew Keegan, Greg Grunberg, Bill Goldberg, Robert Patrick
MPAA Rating: R
Distributed by: Naedomi
Release Date: June 12, 2012
Running Time: 113 minutes

Film: 3 out of 5 stars
Extras: N/A

“Kill Speed” is a mix of “Fast & Furious” and “Top Gun”, but unfortunately it falls a little short on the delivery. The film runs a long at almost two hours, could have worked a lot better at 90 minutes. There is no shortage on talent (or at least notable names) including Adam Goldberg (Ex WWE Champion), Greg Grunberg (“Heroes”), Robert Patrick (“Terminator 2”), Tom Arnold (True Lies) and the Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter.

The film follows group of speed-freak pilots who spend their time transporting crystal meth across the Mexican border with the use of their supersonic planes. They also indulge themselves in the Hollywood lifestyle with their endless cash. Though their luck changes, when they take on their biggest shipment yet, 900 pounds or $2.7million of meth. The FBI catches on their situation and they end up in a dangerous game of cat and mouse.

The DVD is presented in widescreen and included a decent Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track. There is no sign of special features on this DVD, not even a trailer, which is a little disappointing. Honestly, I could recommend this film for the decent action scenes and the cast. I just wish they would have used them more to their full potential.

Film Review “The Kill Hole”

Directed by: Mischa Webley
Starring: Chadwick Boseman, Tory Kittles, Billy Zane, Peter Greene
Rated: N/A
Alternate Ending Studios

Our Score: 3.5 out of 5 stars

“The Kill Hole” directed by Mischa Webley is a film that tells the tale of two soldiers and how they are coping with what they did while in the service. Chadwick Boseman plays the character of Lt. Samuel Drake an ex-soldier struggling to deal with some of the things he and his unit did while working for a Government Contractor. Tory Kittles plays the role of Sgt. Devon Carter a retired army sniper living a secluded life in the mountains while plotting revenge against the officers responsible for ruining his mission. The two ex-soldiers cross paths when Drake is forced to hunt down Carter in an effort to keep government secrets from getting out.

“The Kill Hole” is filled with some great acting by all those involved. Billy Zane does a good job in his role as Marshall a counselor attempting to help Drake and other service men cope with their post war problems. Ted Rooney does a great job playing the bad guy role. Rooney does such a good job in the role of James that you really feel disgust and hate for this character. Tory Kittles and Chadwick Boseman really bring their A games to this film. Both deliver great performances while showing two totally different viewpoints. Personally I would have liked to have seen more of Kittle’s character as he definitely was the more interesting of the two.

This film is worth checking out even if you are not into military themed films. Mischa Webley did a great job putting this film together. Webley did a great job including some good dialogue and beautiful shooting locations which I felt only added to the films appeal. The only thing I found to be a negative was the musical score. The music its self was not bad however, at times when the actors were speaking the music continued to play over the top of their conversation often overshadowing the performance. I just found it hard to focus on the scenes where this was the case as the two were almost competing against each other. That aside “The Kill Hole” is a good film.

DVD Review “Kill”

Directed By: Chad Archibald & Philip Carrer
Starring: Ryan Barrett, Jennifer De Lucia, Peter Soltesz, Casey Dutfield, Andrew Ferguson, Thomas Gofton, Carrie Prout
Distributed by: Troma Entertainment
MPAA Rating: Not Rated
Running Time: 85 minutes

Film: 1 out of 5 stars
Extras: 2 out of 5 stars

I should have known what to expect from this film from the start when the DVD cover spelled Chad Archibald, the director’s name, as Chad Archivald. The film s a real VHS feel to it but is over-the-top stupid.  The film only had a budget of $5K and trust me it shows.  The acting is terrible but with Troma films, I have never expected much in that department.  Overall, if you enjoy extremely cheesy horror this might be worth it for a laugh or two but besides that I would steer clear. The only real thing this DVD will “Kill” is 85 minutes of your time…and I will be here all week, ladies and gentlemen.

The film follows six strangers who wake up in strange house and are unable to leave. There are told what to do from a strange voice over a loud speaker and find that there are men stalking then in the house. There group realize quickly that in order to survive they must…KILL!! Come on with a titled like “Kill”, what did you expect from the film. This ain’t Shakespeare.

The special include an audio commentary from the director’s Chad Archibald & Philip Carrer and a trailer for the film. What movie released by Troma would be complete with out some Troma Trailers and a Radiation March, which can only be explained by watching it for yourself. Lastly, there is a Transvestite PSA featuring Lemmy from Motorhead and South Park’s Trey Parker and Matt Stone. Only Troma…only Troma.
